EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR’S
WELCOME
BECOME A FAN OF WASHINGTON DECA
Congratulations to each of you for earning the privilege of competing in this year’s
conference. 2015 has been an exciting year for Washington DECA; our membership
reached an all time record of 11,710 members and we are now the 3rd largest DECA
chartered association in the world! Today, you are attending the largest State
Conference in history with 3,633 members and advisors.
I am extremely proud of each of you for earning the privilege to attend and compete
at this year’s event. Guaranteed, your experience will make a lasting impact during
and beyond your high school career!
There are several hundred business executives at the conference volunteering their
time because they believe in the mission of Washington DECA and the experience it
provides for each one of you. Our volunteers and the Washington DECA Staff have
worked countless hours to ensure this is an exceptional event that you will always
remember.
I am challenging each of you to demonstrate confidence in yourself, show
enthusiasm in your competition, and exhibit professionalism in everything you do.
Just remember, you determine your own future and success!
Congratulations,
Shanna LaMar
Executive Director

STATE PRESIDENT’S WELCOME
Washington DECA,
Welcome to your 2015 State Career Development Conference! Congratulations
on qualifying to compete. Washington DECA prides itself on being one of the
most competitive state associations in the world, and your achievements thus far
are a testament to all the talent and hard work you have invested in your DECA
experience.
Your hard work does not end here. Many of you undoubtedly aspire to compete at
the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Florida this coming
April. NBA Hall of Famer Hakeem Olajuwon said it best, “When you get to this level,
it’s not a matter of talent anymore - because everyone is talented - it’s all about your
preparation.” As you spend the next three days taking in everything that SCDC has
to offer, look around; the people you meet here today are the leaders that will shape
tomorrow. Everyone in attendance has the requisite talent to succeed, but if you
truly hope to excel in competition, I encourage to put every effort in to preparing
to be the best you can possibly be. When you’re sitting in the Awards Session in a
couple of days, you’ll know you gave it your all.
I hope to meet as many of you as possible over the next few days, and I wish all of
you the best of luck in your competitive events.
Mike Seeley
State President | Washington DECA

VOTING AND ELECTIONSAn important aspect of this conference is the election of the State President. The State President, along with the 11 Area Presidents will represent and serve Washington DECA members in the coming year.
“How is the State President Elected?”Prior to the election at SCDC, the State President candidates are scored on their application essays, an online knowledge test, and an in-person interview with DECA staff, alumni, and supporters. These scores are compiled and designated voting delegates from each chapter will cast their vote based on the speeches, campaigns, and scores of the qualified candidates at SCDC.
Voting ProcessEach chapter is allotted a number of voting delegates based on chapter membership. Voting dele-gate ribbons are included in the registration packet and should be attached to the delegate’s name badge. Delegates should find the voting booth in the Hyatt Main Floor Foyer near the shuttle bus drop-off to place their votes on Friday, between 9am and 3pm.
Serving as a voting delegate for your chapter is both a privilege and an obligation. It is essential that each chapter exercises their right to vote, and that each voting delegate is informed. **Senior Academy Members are not eligible to be voting delegates**
Election results will be announced March 7th during the Awards Session.
Meet the CandidatesBe sure to visit the candidates in their campaign booths in the Meydenbauer Center Lobby Thursday afternoon and Friday between 10am and 1pm.
