Welcome

When you reach for a reference book, you want to be assured that you are getting the most reliable information in the best format possible. The 2015 edition of Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia continues the work Tarascon started years ago—providing products that contribute to safe prescribing practices. We avoid apothecary symbols and confusing shortcuts in the prescribing entries, and give you the vital information you need to make the best choice for your patients. A recent research report in the Journal of Medical Toxicology reported that only two electronic prescribing apps met the highest level of safety for accurate safety information about the boxed warning for extended relief/long acting opioids, and one of them was the Tarascon Pharmacopoeia mobile application (Lapoint J1, Perrone J, Nelson LS. Electronic pharmacopoeia: a missed opportunity for safe opioid prescribing information? J Med Toxicol. 2014;10:15-8.) We take safe and accurate prescribing very seriously and work tirelessly to ensure information is presented in a way that helps providers make better decisions at the point of care.

There are some other great additions to 2015 editions of the Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia. The one I am most excited about is the inclusion of a new Rheumatology section which acknowledges the explosion of pharmaceuticals in this area. Additionally, we revised and improved your favorite tables, eliminated drugs which are no longer on the market, and reworked the index. Most of these great ideas came from our loyal subscribers, so please keep them coming!

This year we also added a new book to our Pharmacopoeia series—the Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia 2014 Disease Edition. It contains the same content found in our other Pharmacopoeia drug guides, but it is first organized by disease, and then by most commonly prescribed drug for that disease. The Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia 2015 Classic Edition, the Tarascon Pocket Pharmacopoeia 2014 Disease Edition, and the Tarascon Pharmacopoeia Mobile Application are the perfect package for busy clinicians.

Even though we regularly receive rave reviews for our print and mobile products, we never stop working on improving them. The feedback we receive from our loyal customers has been instrumental in the evolution of our products, and we appreciate all of the comments and suggestions you have given us over the last year. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we have to get back to work to make sure 2016 is even better.

Thanks for another great year!

Richard J. Hamilton, MD, FAAEM, FACMT, FACEP Editor-in-chief [email protected]
