June Event – The Cosmopolitan Hippy Our June event was a breakfast with Dr. Leandra Brady-Walker, the Cosmopolitan Hippy. The event was a success; the ladies had the opportunity to network and taste some of Leandra’s recipes which Kym Cairns of Cairns Industries Pty Ltd was kind enough to prepare for the event. Leandra addressed some interesting and construction career-orientated topics such as what it means to be healthy, spoke about choosing and preparing healthy delicious food, women “having it all” and what she refers to as “the work-life balance myth”. The ladies had the opportunity to delve into Leandra’s wise words, experience as a chiropractor and be consumed by her passion for holistic health. Needless to say, the cook books were a sellout. NAWIC NT are hoping to capture Leandra’s wisdom and passion in another event coming early 2016. We were also fortunate enough to gain a little insight into the operations of Cairns Industries from their Winnellie office. The majority of their operation is however based in Borroloola, and provides a building and civil construction service to Borroloola and surrounding area.

Upcoming Events In August NAWIC is offering a chance to visit the Inpex-operated Ichthys Project Onshore LNG Facilities on a JKC Australia LNG Pty Ltd sponsored site tour. We will be getting the full Ichthys experience beginning with catching a coach bus to site like an Ichthys worker. The site tour is a wonderful opportunity to see the progress made from the last NAWIC tour in late 2014. We are finalising a site tour of the Conoco Philips Darwin Gas Plant at present, which will be a stark contrast from the progress of a greenfields construction site at the Ichthys Onshore LNG Facilities Project to the fully-operational Conoco Phillips Darwin Gas Plant. What a wonderful opportunity to gain access to and be allowed an in-depth look at these interesting local sites which are also some of the largest and most complex globally.
