Parent/Guardian Responsibilities

Parents/Guardians are expected to: • Have students to classes/school on time • Attend all classes with students in grades K-3 • Remain on-site with students in grades 4-6 • Drop students off no more than 15 minutes prior to their first class (students in grades 7-12 only) • Pick students up promptly after their last class of the day (students in grades 7-12 only) • Provide time/resources and support for all onsite/homestudy course work • Help students with organization at home and with binders/notebooks • Monitor assignments/grades in Synergy (For username or password talk to your ES) • Communicate student needs with Educational Specialist/Classroom Teacher • Assist student in class when needed

How long does a student have to drop a class without allotment charge? Dropping a class must be completed by the end of the second week of classes. Allotment and Community Education Tuition will not be refunded if you drop a class after the second week. What is the process to add or drop a class? Add/Drops must be completed with your student’s Educational Specialist and signed by the teacher. An ES will submit the Add/Drop form requesting the change in schedule. Add/Drop forms without an ES and parent signature cannot be processed and will be returned to the ES.. What happens if I go over my student’s allotment? Allotment overages will be due by 4 PM the Thursday of the third week of classes (September 22nd). If payment is not received (delivered to the front desk or in the silver box in the front office) by the due date, the student will be dropped from the class(es) affected to allow for waitlisted students to enroll. Payment plans are available. Can I get a refund if I drop a class during the year? Unless otherwise noted, all courses are year long courses. When a student enrolls in a course, the course fee is charged for the entire year. If a student chooses to drop a course at the semester, class fees are not prorated and not refunded to allotment. How many credits does my high school student earn per class? Credit values listed in the course catalog reflect the credits earned per semester for each class. For more questions on credits, please ask your student’s Educational Specialist. How do I register my high school student for a core subject C4P class? When registering for classes, the C4P class can be requested by just the department name, i.e. C4P Music. Core C4P classes have a fee of $60 each. Within the first 3 weeks of classes, your Educational Specialist will initiate the C4P process so that your student can schedule a meeting with the appropriate department head and discuss the proposed course of study. How are class waitlists determined for over enrolled classes? Classes are filled according to student grade level and the class preference number given to that class. If a class is over enrolled, students in lower grades and with a lower class preference number will be on the waitlist. Students will be called in waitlist order to fill any vacancies that may occur. Why do HS/MS core classes meet only twice a week? In keeping with the tradition of homeschooling and family priorities, ACA core classes meet twice a week with the remainder of the coursework being completed at home. The only way to complete a core class is to do the required coursework at home.
