LIVE THE ADVENTURE WITH ARION AND ITS BRILLIANT GUEST ARTISTS!
—
THE SPECTACULAR AT YOUR FINGERTIPS!
arionbaroque.com
Since its creation in 1981 in Montreal, Arion has remained connected to the creative energy of baroque composers
like Bach and Vivaldi, playing their works on period instruments and rediscovering the shine of the original colours of those
masterpieces. Thanks to the artistic vision of Claire Guimond, it is now the figurehead of the world of ancient music
on period instruments in Quebec and Canada.

BACH CANTATAS
Flutes and oboes join with strings and the best voices in Arion Baroque Orchestra’s presentation of three wonderful
Bach cantatas. Here, as in all his music, Bach manages with sublime musical science and sensitivity to express eternity
on a human scale. A truly inspiring experience.
Guest Conductor Alexander Weimann
Soloists: Hélène Brunet, soprano; Laura Pudwell, alto; Philippe Gagné, tenor;
Jesse Blumberg, bass.

SPECIAL CONCERT
In collaboration with the
MUSIC IN CAFÉS
AND GARDENS
Just how stimulating concerts in the gardens and coffeehouses of Baroque Germany could have been transpires
in J.S. Bach’s delicious and humorous miniature quasi opera, his Coffee Cantata. Like today, such events were sociable occasions to enjoy musical works so fresh their ink wasn’t yet dry, or else
foreign compositions sometimes arranged for the forces at hand. So savour the moment!

OPERA WITHOUT
WORDS…OR NEARLY!
Opera in the 18th century had firmly established the primacy of the voice, a fact that will be eloquently recalled by
Andréanne Brisson Paquin’s shimmering and expressive voice. But another protagonist made its mark in the Classical Period: the clarinet, an instrument of rich colors and subtle dynamics.
And Lorenzo Coppola is one of its greatest devotees in all its historical guises. Soprano and clarinets will share the stage,
around one of Haydn’s most rousing symphonies.
