The athletic teams and the University are very appreciative and supportive of the band. We are constantly in demand all over campus for pep rallies and other events. 5. Each year we welcome approximately 85 new freshmen, most of whom were leaders in their high school bands. As a result, rehearsals are fast paced and productive! The University pays for transportation, lodging, and most meals on trips! There are no fundraising activities or trip accounts to worry about! Scholarships and Financial Aid

1. All Members are eligible for merit-based band grants. 2. Most members receive these band grants with increased amounts based on seniority.

1. How do I sign up?

Fill out the prospective member form at marchingband.wsu.edu. This will get you on our email list. We will ask you to confirm in July to officially join!

2. When does summer band start?

New members report on August 14, one week before classes. More details will be available during the summer.

3. I’m marching DCI this summer, when do I show up?

Since DCI Finals occur a week before camp, you will have time to return home and report to campus with everyone else.

4. Does the band provide any instruments?

The band provides all instruments if needed!

5. Is there a color guard?

YES! We added a color guard for the 2015 season!

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have to audition? Currently, only prospective members of the drumline have to audition. We encourage

all musicians to join!

6. How much does the band rehearse?

During the semester, the band typically rehearses 6 hours a week.

7. Do we travel to away games?

The full band travels to any championship and bowl games. In 2015 we also sent the entire band to Seattle for Apple Cup and El Paso for the Sun Bowl. A pep band traveled for the game at Oregon.

8. What are Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma?

Kappa Kappa Psi and Tau Beta Sigma are the National Band Service Fraternity and Sorority. These groups host their own service and social activities and are vital in helping the band function.

What is a typical gameday like? 11:00 AM – Morning rehearsal 12:30 PM – Lunch provided 2:00 PM – Butch’s Bones play around

campus 3:00 PM – Play for the Cougar Prowl;

the team’s arrival 4:00 PM – Pep Bands perform for fans

all across campus 4:45 PM – Perform pregame show for

32,000 screaming Cougar fans!

5:00 PM – Kickoff 8:30 PM – After another Cougar victory,

the team joins the students in singing as the band plays the alma mater
