TURN UP THE DIAL... From the underground dance clubs of Memphis, Tennessee, comes a hot Broadway musical that bursts off the stage with explosive dancing, irresistible songs, and a thrilling tale of fame and forbidden love. Inspired by actual events, follows the MEMPHIS courageous story of a white 1950s DJ who wants to change the world and an up-and-coming black singer ready for her big break.

MEMPHIS garnered four 2010 Tony Awards: Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, and Best Orchestrations. With book and lyrics by Joe Di Pietro (I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change; Over �e River And �rough �e Woods) and music and lyrics by Bon Jovi's David Bryan, this explosive musical also garnered multiple Drama Desk awards and Outer Critics Circle awards, including Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Composer, and Outstanding Orchestrations.

MEMPHIS will be directed by award-winner Jay Manley, with music direction by Catherine Snider, and choreography by Do�ie Lester-White.

I’m delighted that our 16th season features exciting, innovative, thought-provoking, drop-dead funny, and touchingly heartfelt stories that each, in some way, reveals or explores courage in its many facets, including courage of spirit, conviction, and imagination. As the artist Henri Matisse said, Creativity takes courage. "Frank Underwood" (House of Cards) said, Imagination is its own form of courage. I think you will delight in discovering the through-line of courage in the six mainstage shows I and my artistic team of Doug, Leslie, Samuel, and James chose a�er researching countless projects and plays that would provide you, our audience, as well as the artists who work with us, an enriching theatrical experience. Join us for this modern re-telling of A Christmas Carol told through the eyes, imagination, and references of 21st century youth, as wri�en by Amy Roberts with Chloe Allen, Miles Bayer, Connor Chancey, Emily Anne Goes, Samantha Goes, and Claire Lentz.

Who knows what or who will show up? �row in the melodies of traditional holiday carols joined with original contemporary lyrics, and A DICKENS OF A CHRISTMAS MASHUP may prove to be a new holiday tradition that will delight audiences of all ages for years to come.

BE INSPIRED… �is compelling and passionate drama by playwright Arthur Giron (Becoming Memories, �e Coffee Trees, Emilie's Voltaire, and Amazing Grace) explores the life and legend of EDITH STEIN, an early 20th century German-Jewish intellectual who converted to Roman Catholicism a�er World War I. Experiencing a deepening of her faith, she entered a Cloistered Carmelite Convent in 1933. In 1942, she died at Auschwitz – as a Jew. In 1998, she was canonized by Pope John Paul II and is now known as St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross.

�is inspiring, dramatic, and engaging story is told in �ashback scenes that bring to life the courageous choices of a woman of deep faith, compassion, and understanding.

EDITH STEIN will be directed by Jerry Lloyd and star Leslie Lloyd.

THIS ONE'S A “10”… Following the success of Tabard's 2014 production of 10 in 10: Perspective, our 16th season's is a new collection of 10 in 10: 2017ten-minute plays wri�en by emerging local playwrights, as inspired by emerging local artists.

In collaboration with the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA), paintings created by emerging local artists will be selected and made available to emerging local playwrights to serve as inspiration for original ten-minute plays. Ten plays will be selected from those submi�ed and will be produced and presented as .10 in 10: 2017

�e original 2014 production of 10 in 10: Perspective provided the impetus for the expansion of Swi� Justice into a full-length play as part of Tabard's 15th season.

YOU'LL DIE LAUGHING… THE CEMETERY CLUB, with shades of �e Golden Girls, is an hysterically funny, moving, sweet-tempered romantic comedy. Ida, Lucille, and Doris are three Jewish widows who meet once a month for tea before visiting their husbands’ graves.

A chance cemetery meeting with a local widower leads these three friends to question what it means to honor the past while �nding the courage to move ahead into the future. ,Playwright Ivan Menchell’s Broadway credits include Bonnie & Clyde (book) Chi�y Chi�y Bang Bang (additional material), and THE CEMETERY CLUB.For the screen, Mr. Menchell wrote an adaptation of his play starring Ellen Burstyn, Diane Ladd, and Olympia Dukakis..
