LETTERFROMNATIONALTABLIGHSECRETARYMyDearestSisters,AssalamoAlaikumwarahmatullahiwabarakatohuOctobermarksthebeginningofanewyearforLajna;atimetolookbackandsayAlhamdolillahandMash’Allah toeveryone forall theirefforts in the fieldofTabligh. It isalsoanopportunity to lookaheadandpray thatAllahAlmighty guidesus, blessesour future efforts, enablesus to takeevengreaterstepsandhelpsus toreachout toaneven largeraudiencetospreadthemessageof trueIslam.Ameen.Our beloved Huzoor (may Allah be his Helper) has repeatedly emphasised the importance for allDai’ilAllah to ensure they endeavour to be the best rolemodels and radiate the highmorals andattributes taught by Islam. ‘Silent Tabligh’, that is, Tabligh carried out by sharingwith others ourpious, humble manner, is one of the most powerful forms of Tabligh. We should strive to beexemplary individuals in all aspects of our lives,whether at home, atwork, in any other externalenvironmentorwithintheJama’at.

Aswellasbetteringourselves,weneedtorememberthatknowledgeisourstrength.Youwillnotethatgreatemphasishasbeenplacedon learningaboutandunderstandingotherfaiths inthenewTablighSyllabus. Themoreknowledgewehaveabout thebeliefs andvaluesofothers, thebetterequippedwewillbetoengageinreligiousdialoguewiththem.Weshouldbeactiveinengagingininterfaith forums and debates, visiting other places of worship and enhancing our ownunderstandingthroughreadingandresearch.

Itisalsocrucialthatweendeavortodevelopabetterunderstandingofourfaithaswell.Inthiswaywe can utilize the proofs and reasoning from scholarly treasures to expedite our Tabligh effortsbecausetherevivalofIslamisthetaskofeachAhmadi.

BelovedHuzoor (mayAllah be his Helper) has also emphasised thatwe need to understand howatheiststhink.WeshouldnotbeafraidtoengageinTablighwithatheists,orworryaboutwheretoeven start the conversation. Focusingondiscussing theneedsof society is a goodway toengageatheists.Discussinghowsocietycanachievepeaceenablesustoconveythebeautifulteachingsoftrue Islam, showing examples from the life of the HolyProphetMuhammad (may the peace andblessingsofAllahbeuponhim).Huzoor(mayAllahbehisHelper)hasalsodirectedustostudybookssuchas'OurGod'byHazratKhalifatulMasihII(mayAllahbepleasedwithHim),whichexplainstheproofandmagnificenceofAllahtheAlmighty.WehaveincludedthisBookaspartofourBookClubthisyear.Iwouldencourageyoualltoreadandunderstanditthoroughly.The last two years have seen our Lajna grow from strength to strength in Tabligh. Alhamdolillah.Some of the many events that have been held include school talks and assemblies, interfaithgatherings,coffeemornings,fundraisingeventsandnumerousonetoonesittings.With Allah’s grace Lajna also participated in several national Tabligh campaigns, includingresponding to the comments made by Prime Minister David Cameron about Muslim women inJanuary2016.Alhamdolillahmorethan5000responsesweresenttothePrimeMinisterfromLajnaand Nasirat. We also held a very successful Shelters campaign in March 2016, titled ‘Love fromLajna’, where Lajna across the UK donated beautifully packaged Tabligh hampers to womens’

shelters,spreadingloveandawarenessabouttheJama’at.DuringNationalIslamAwarenessWeekinMay2016,Lajnaacross theUKparticipated inschool talks,assembliesandexhibitionstohighlightthebeautifulteachingsofIslam.It is encouraging to see that Lajna are becoming increasingly active in publicising their work andeventsthroughlocalnewspapers.TheyalsocontributetonarratingthetrueteachingsofIslamwitharticles, comments and news items about Islamic issues. A ‘Tabligh Awareness’ booklet has beenpreparedwhichincludesaselectionofthepresscoverageLajnahavereceivedacrosstheUKduringthelastyearfortheireffortsinsupportofIslamicvalues.ThiswillinshallahbeavailableatthenextRefresherCourse.OnlineTablighhasalsoprogressedsignificantlyoverthelastyear.Mash’AllahallregionsnowhavetheirownTwitteraccountandwealsohaveadedicatedonlineblogforLajna,personalmusings.com.The increase in the use of socialmedia as an outlet for Tabligh is an important step forwards inspreading themessageof true Islam.However, it alsobringswith it increased responsibilitiesandyouwill see thatwe have included a sectionwithin our new Tabligh syllabuswhich sets out theguidelinesLajnamustalwaysadheretowhenengaginginsuchfora.

Althoughwehavemadeprogress,thereisstillagreatdealmoretodo.Withthatinmind,IwouldliketotakethisopportunitytosayafewwordsabouttheimportanceofthenewTablighSyllabus.Justasyoumayhavetargetsatworktoenableyoutoprogressinyourcareers,orasastudent,havea curriculum to follow in order to attain the highest level of educational excellence, your TablighSyllabus is crucial to your spiritual development and progression as Dai’ilAllah. The Year Plannerprovidesamonth-by-monthstructureofevents,activitiesandworkshopstohelpyougainabetterunderstandingof Islamandhighlightsopportunities tospread its truemessage. Italsoencouragesresearch into other faiths with the intention that this will Insha’Allah enable us to broaden ourTabligh contacts. Please do take time to study the Tabligh Syllabus and follow the Year Planner,buildingonitwithadditionalprogrammesbothlocallyandataregionallevel.

ThemostimportantconduitofsuccessfulTabligh,thesourcethatblessesoureffortsandenlightenstheheartsofothers;isprayer.Theimportanceofprayerisparticularlysignificantinthischallengingdayandagewherethenameof Islam isbeing taintedbyextremistswhomisuseandmisinterpretIslam.Inthefaceofsuchatrocities,wemustpraywithincreaseddevotionanddedication.

I want to conclude by sharing with you the directions of our beloved Huzoor (May Allah be hisHelper):

SPIRITUALASPECTOFTABLIGHThespiritualaspectofTablighisthemostimportantaspectofcallingpeopletowardsAllah.Withoutitalloureffortsareinvain.Wedonotaccomplishanythingonourown;itisAllahthe Gracious who showers his blessings upon our efforts. We must recognize thateffectivenessinTablighisfarmoredependentonAllah’sGracethanindividualknowledge.Thus,oneshouldconstantlyengageinsupplicationandIstaghfarwhilstconductingTabligh.

PRAYER

Remember, we cannot change the hearts of people on our own. It is only with Allah’sdecree that a person enters the fold of Islam Ahmadiyyat. Therefore, it is of the utmostimportancethatallLajnamembersengageinsincereprayer.

“PrayateverystepduringDa‘watilallāh.Praywhileyouareengagedinthistask.Whenyoureturnhome,prayagain. Evenask your children topray for you. If youwill payattentionseriously,youwillputyourheartandsoulinthejob.Youwillsincerelyrequestyourchildrentoprayforyou,andthenyouwillseethattheprayersofyourinnocentchildrenwilljoinyourprayers,andstrengthenyou.Yourwordswillcarrywonderfulforce.Youhavebeencreatedtoconquerthenations,butitwillbedonewithlove,affectionandprayers.Learnthesewaysand methods. Teach these ways to your children. If you will do so, the condition of theJama‘atwillberevolutionized.Youwillgetnewlifeandfreshspirituality”

“IswearbyHimwhoholdsmylifeinHishands,thatyoumustenjoinonpeopletodogoodandforbidthemfromdoingwrong:otherwiseitisquitelikelythatsomepunishmentfromAllahmaybeinflicteduponyou.Then,toolate,youwilloffersupplicationbuttheywillnotbeaccepted.”[Tirmidhi–‘SelectedsayingsoftheHolyProphetofIslam’,p.31-32]“Makereligioneasyforotherstofollow,donotmakeitdifficult.Similarly,presentreligioninapleasingmanner;donotmakeitrepulsivetoothers.”[Muslim–‘SelectedsayingsoftheHolyProphetofIslam’,p.34]“ByAllah! “Ifitwasinmypower,Iwouldknockonthedoorofeveryhousejustlikeabeggar,inordertospreadthetruewordofGodsothatthepeoplemaybesavedfromdisbeliefandatheistictendencies,which isprevalentallover theworld. IfGodwere to teachmeEnglish, then IwouldgoaroundandpropagateHisMessageevenif itmeansthat Imayhavetosacrificemylifeintheprogress!”[MafoozatVol3p.291]“GodAlmightydesirestodrawallthosewholive invarioushabitationsoftheworld,be itEuropeorAsia,andwhohavevirtuousnature,totheUnityofGodanduniteHisservantsunderoneFaith.ThisindeedisthepurposeofGodforwhichIhavebeensenttotheworld.You, too, therefore should pursue this end, butwith kindness,moral probity and ferventprayers.”(TheWill,pp8-9)

“Injury and its pain, sleeplessness and its anguish, weakness and infirmity set aside, thepassion for Tabligh is such that when brother Mufti Muhammad Sadiq returned (frompreaching), Hazrat Khalifatul Masih I listened to the narration of his journey withextraordinaryattention.HebecameextremelyhappyonlearninghisdetailsoftheTablighworkthathadbeencarriedoutinthoseareas[wherehehadtravelledto].WhenKhawajaKamal-ud-Din visited Ḥazrat Khalifatul-Masiḥ for the first time during his illness, hementionedthathehadreceivedatelegramfromSahibzaadaAftabAhmadKhaninformingthathe(KhawajaSahib)wastodeliverthefirstlectureataconferenceinAligarh.KhawajaSahibtoldSahibzaadaSahibthathewouldnotbeabletoattendduetotheillhealthoftheKhalifatulMasihI.OnthisSahibzaadaSahibsentatelegraminquiringaboutthehealththeKhalifatulMasihIandcalledKhawajaṢāḥibtosaynottocomeuntiltheKhalifatulMasihIhadrecovered.

Onhearingthis,HazratKhalifatulMasihIsaid,‘No,myillnessshouldnotstopTablighwork.Youshoulddefinitelygothere.WritetohimthatIdonotliketomakemyselfahindranceintheworkofthereligionoftruth.MydesireisthatIshouldgivemywholelifeinserviceofthereligionoftruth.Youmustgothere.”[Al-Ḥakam,January7,1911,p.5]

HAZRATKHALIFATULMASIHII(MayAllahbepleasedwithhim)

“Thetaskwithwhichyouhavebeenentrustedisanonerousone.Ishouldsayitisbeyondthepowerofman. ItcannotbeaccomplishedwithoutHishelp.Theheartofmanis inHishands. The regeneration and purification of heart are His work. You should, therefore,repose complete trust inHim.Never entertain even for amoment the idea that you arecapableofdoinganything.YourheartshouldbeeverfullofDivineloveandyoushouldsteerclear of pride and boasting. Humiliate yourself before God whenever you meet anopponent. Banish the idea from yourmind that youwill answer him – nay, even assureyourself thatyouknownothing.Forgetall thatyouknow,yetat thesametimehavefirmfaith that God iswith you andHewill instruct you in all things. Pray toGod and do notentertain forevenamomentthe ideathatyouradversarywillgetthebetterofyou.Restassured that you will be victorious. But at the same time, keep in view the DivineindependenceandbearinmindthatHedoesnotstandinneedofhumanhelp.He,whoisproudofhisknowledge,isbroughtloweventhoughheisworkingfortheDivinecause.”[Directions given in writing to Maulana Q. “Iwish to draw the attention of ourmissionary brothers that in order to become a truemissionary in the sight of Allah, two fundamentals are required. One is the light ofunderstandingandtheother isa tenderheart.TheHolyQur’ānhasalsostated, ‘IamtheOnewhoremovestheweaknessinyourintellectandtakesittogreaterheights,andallitsdefectswillbeeffacedthroughmeandallitsdarknesswillturnintobrightnessthroughme’;Furthermore theHolyQur’ānhas said, ‘Oneof the reasons formydescent is to producetenderhearts,’asAllahAlmightysays inSurahYusuf:“Wehaverevealed it, theQur’ān inArabicthatyoumayunderstand”(12:3).[Al-Faḍl,March3,1969]

“EveryAhmadiwho receives thismessage shouldbecomeaguardian forhimself, and,heshouldtakeasolemnvowbeforeAlmightyGod,andpromisethathewillconvertat leastonepersontoAḥmadiyyatwithinoneyear.Ifhepraysthenthiswillnotbedifficult.WhenGodiswillingtobestowafavoruponyou, it istheheightofungratefulnessnottostretchyourhandandreceiveit.”[FridaySermon,September27,1985]

(MayAllahbehisHelper)“…Herewhereyouliveinfreedomyoushouldutiliseyourfreedominamannerthateverywomanandeverygirlshouldfeelthat‘TodaytheresponsibilityofdefendingIslamandtheHolyProphet (MaythepeaceandblessingsofAllahbeuponhim) ismineandonlymine,’andthat‘Ihavetotrymyverybest,usingallmycapabilitiesandstrengths,todulyfulfiltheresponsibilityofprovidingthissafeguard.Ihavetoincreasemyknowledgeandspirituality,andIwillnotrestinpeaceuntilIestablishtheflagofIslamallovertheworld’”.“To strengthen yourself, to strengthen the Jama’at you should take up good acts. Thenspreadthesetoothers.Thenyouwillbeperforminggooddeedsandavoidingsin,whichwillmakeDawatillAllaheasier.TheJama’atwillbereceivingthebesttrainingasgoodactswillbeput intopracticeandpeoplewillbestopped fromsin.GoodactsanddeedswhicharementionedintheHolyQur’an,areinnumerable.”[FridaySermon16thJune2006]“Theonlythingtodo iswork,workandwork.Youhavetogeta firmgripontheworkofDawatillAlllah.Takeresponsibilityforthiswork.”[17thJune2006,addressingKhuddamulAhmadiyyaMajlis-e-Aamla]

Citingverse34ofSurahHaMimAlSajdah (41:34)Huzoor (mayAllahbehisHelper) said,firstandforemostwehavetoespousetheQur’anicteachinginourdailylivesotherwisenoeffortwilleverbearfruit.Itisessentialtokeepallone’saffairswholesomewithGodandtopay the dues of fellow humans, to honour the rights of close relatives, the rights of theneighboursandtherightsoftheenvironment.Itisimportanttohelpwhoeverisinneedofhelp.

Ifone’sownsituationissuchthatparentsareunhappywithoneorone’swifeandchildrenarediscontentedorwomenwhoindulgeimproperlyinfashionorthosewhodonotcontroltheirtemperandcreatediscord–allthesearenotgooddeedsandpeoplewhogive intothemarenoteffectiveatTabligh.Therefore,itisvitaltobeexemplary.

RememberthatitisGod’spromisewiththePromisedMessiah(peacebeuponhim)that‘Ishall grant you dominance’. Now this dominance/triumph will be worldwide, in Europe,Asia, Africa, America and Insha’Allah Oceania. It is your task to carry out Tablighdemonstratingtotalobedienceandgooddeeds.ThePromisedMessiah(peacebeuponhim)said‘Thishopeofmineisnotimaginary,ratherIhavereceivedthisgladtidingthroughtheholyrevelationofGod’.

InconclusionHuzoor(mayAllahbehisHelper)saidthisderisionofreligionisthereforustotakenoteofour task. The finaldecisionhasbeenmade,however,weneed to focusandtakethismessageforward.Thisisthegreatestservicetohumanity.MayAllahenableusalltodoso.[SummaryofFridaySermon22ndDecember2006]

“After every…action that brings defame to Islam, we should tell the world that thefoundationofmyreligionisonpeace”“ThereissomuchworktobedonetoconveythetruemessageofIslamtotheentireworld.AlthoughagoodintroductionhasbeenmadebyJama'atbutstillwecannotsaythatithasbeendonetoasatisfactorylevel.ThisperiodofoppositionwhichistheoppositionofIslamfromthenon-MuslimsandbytheoppositionofJama'at,inthissituationweneedtogowithwisdomandunderstanding.ThereisnodoubtthatIslamisthatreligionwhichisboundtospreadintheWorldInsha’Allah.Thereisnodoubtthattherevivalof IslamwilltakeplacethroughAhmadiyyat Jama'atandcommunity. This iswhatGodAlmightyhasdecreedanddestined.But it isourdutyand responsibility thatweshouldpray that theseexamplesofprogressbeshowninourlivesandourshortcomingsandweaknessesandnegligenceshouldnotbetakingusawayfromthisvictoryandsuccess”.[FridaySermon29July2016]“ForthesakeofourownforgivenessandtogettheblessingsofAllahweneedtopraymoreandmore.TheAnti-Islamforcesalongwiththesocalledfollowersofreligiousteachersareagainst us but we have to remove every sort of fear from our minds and we have tocomplete the mission of the Promised Messiah (peace be on him) by doing everythingpossiblebyus”[FridaySermon29July2016]

‘It should be kept in mind that the service of Jama'at should not be considered aninsignificantmatter and should not be taken superficially. Everyone of us, whether anofficer or an ordinarymember, has pledged to prefer faith overworld.When apersonaccepts to serve as an officer, or is appointed for a service, he hasmore responsibilitythanothersthathefulfilshispledgeandkeepsinmindthathehasmadethispledgewithAllah,andthatAllahhasdirectedatmanyplacesintheHolyQurantofulfilpledges’.

‘Worship is the greatest among the rights of Allah. Office bearers should make aconcertedeffortbyofferingSalatandbyitsestablishmentincongregation’.

Sometimesofficebearers have to hear adverse comments. If they have to hear, they should. The officebearerscanevaluatetheirownselvesastohowhighandtowhatextent is the leveloftheir forbearance.What is the extent of their humbleness? Sometimes the matters ofsuchofficebearerscomeupwhodonothaveanyforbearanceand if theother isbeingimpertinent, they also become brash. If an ordinary person is impertinent, it does notmake any difference to him. It would be said that his manners are low. Tabligh,orDa’watilAllah,meanstocalltowardsAllah.Thus,theprimaryroleofTablighistospread thetrue message of Islam and bring new members into the foldof Islam. It isessential to realise that the task at hand ismore spiritual than mechanical; hence it isimperativetofocusonprayersthroughouttheprocess.

AsaTablighSecretary,youaretaskedwithfacilitatingyourMajlisalongthenoblepathofTabligh: you are there to guide, support and encourage yourMajlis to engage in Tablighactivities,buildnewcontacts,learnmoreabouttheirfaithandthoseofothers.Youshouldorganiseamonthlyplanofevents,activitiesandworkshops,engagingallmembersofyourMajlis,youngandold.Eachoneofushasuniquestrengths;somemaybegoodatwritingarticles;othersmaybegoodat1-1sittings.Someof theyoungermembersofyourMajlismaybebetterabletoengageinonlineTablighwhilstmothersmaybewellplacedtodeliverschool talks at their children’s schools. Tabligh is the responsibility and duty of each andeveryAhmadi.EachmemberofyourMajlisshouldbegiventheopportunitytoparticipatein,andreaptheblessingsof,Tabligh.

STEPSTOSUCCESS

ThefirststepinTablighistoemployrighteousconductinallaspectsofourlives;whetheritisatschool,universityorplaceofwork,wemustendeavourtospreadthepeaceful,lovingmessageof Islambyexample.Secondly,everyLajnamembershouldbecomethevoiceoftrueIslam,ensuringthatnoopportunityofspreadingthetrueteachingsofIslamiswasted.

FollowingisanextractfromaFridaySermondeliveredbyHazratKhalifatulMasihIV(MercyofAllahtheExaltedbeuponhim)highlightingtheresponsibilityofaTablighSecretary:

“The jobof theDai’ilAllah is toprepare the cropsandgardensofDa’wat ilAllah.And thisdoesnothappen justbyamerepieceofadviceorareminder; itneedsdevelopingacloseattachmentwiththem.CreatingaloveforthisworkisanartanduponthistheHolyQur’anhasthrownsomelight,fromwhichweshouldbenefit.AllahgaveHazratIbrahim(peacebeonhim)thetaskofgivinglifetonationsandhewastold,‘Throughyounationswillgetnewlife’. Hazrat Ibrahim (peace be on him) had a very humble character. He said, ‘O God! Iunderstandthatyouwillgivelifetonations,buthow?’Inreply,hewascommanded,‘Takefourbirdsandattachthemtoyourself.Thensendthemindifferentdirectionsandthencallthem,andyouwillseehowtheycomeflyingbacktoyou’.ThiswastheexampleofHazratIbrahim(peacebeonhim).SoeveryMissionary,Amir,PresidentandOfficebearershouldgethold of somemembers of their Jama’at, and under ‘sorhonna ilaik’ (2:261) should attachthemtothemselves,trainthemwithloveandaffection,givethemataskandspreadthemintheworld. • EachTablighSecretaryshouldhaveaTeamthatconsistsoffourTeammembers.• AllTeammembersmustbeactivelyengagedinTabligh• TheTablighSecretarymustensurethatthereisadatabaseofalllocalTablighcontacts

in your Majlis. The Dai’ilAllah responsible should follow up these contacts withregularlyandthedatabaseshouldbecheckedandupdatedbytheTablighSecretaryeachmonth.

• ItisgoodpracticetokeepminutesofeachTablighmeetingandtocirculatethese,aswellasactionpoints,toeachTeammemberfollowingthemeeting.

• RedBookMeetingsshouldbeheldaftereachTablighevent.• TheTablighTeamshouldholdaTablighworkshopeachmonth.AllLajnaintheMajlis

should be invited to attend. Suggested topics for workshops can be found in theTablighSyllabus.

• TheTablighSecretaryshouldensureTablighreportsaresubmittedtothe localSadrontimeeachmonth.

Following is an extract taken from pages 64-68 of ‘Inspiring Events in the Field of Tabligh’ byMaulanaAtaulMujeebRashed , ImamFazlMosqueLondon. It setsout tensuccessfulmethodsofTabligh,asdirectedbyHazratKhalifatulMasihIV(MaytheMercyofAllahtheExaltedbeuponhim)inhisFridaySermononFebruary25,1983.WewouldencourageallTablighSecretariestofamiliarizethemselveswiththesestepsandimplementtheminallTablighinitiatives.

‘CalluntothewayofthyLordwithwisdomandgoodlyexhortation,andarguewiththeminawaythatisbest.Surely,thyLordknowsbestwhohasstrayedfromHisway;andHealsoknowsthosewhoarerightlyguided.

Andifyoudesiretopunishtheoppressors,thenpunishthemtotheextenttowhichyouhavebeenwronged;butifyoushowpatiencethen,surely,thatisbestforthosewhoarepatient.

And,endurethouwithpatience;andverilythypatience ispossibleonlywiththehelpofAllāh.Andgrievenotforthem,norfeeldistressedbecauseoftheirplots.

Verily,Allāhiswiththosewhoarerighteousandthosewhodogood’.(HolyQur’ān,16:126-129)

ItisnotasimplecallingtoGodthatiscontainedinthisversebutitisacalltowardstheglorywithwhichAllāhmanifestedHimself to theProphetMuhammad(peaceandblessingsofAllāhbeuponhim)thattheworldwasinvitedto;forHeistheGodWhoistheLordofalltheworlds.Followingaretenimportantpointsinthisrespect.

1.TheMessageisforAlltheBelievers:Althoughthemessageisforallthebelievers,buthereonlytheHolyProphetMuhammad(peaceandblessingsofAllāhbeuponhim)hasbeenaddressed.ItisnotsaidthatOMuhammad!YoualonegoandstartcallingpeopletowardsAllāhandnocompanionshouldaccompanyyou.Thus,itisaddressedtotheHolyProphet,butismeantforallthebelievers.

By pondering over the word Hikmat it seems that we should first look towards the history. Bylookingovertheeventsofhistory,weshallhavetodealwithouradversarieswithextremeloveandaffection.Itisthenthatourpointofviewwillbeaccepted,otherwisenot.

2.ApproachAccordingtotheCircumstances:ThesecondpointofHikmat,whichisusuallyignored,iskeepingthecircumstances inview.AnalyzethecircumstancesandthenstarttheworkofcallingtowardsAllāh.Everything is fine if it isdoneatproper time.Deliveringyourmessage to someonewhoisinahurryormentallyupsetisnotproper.Thiswillnotbeaccordingtocircumstances.

If a man dislikes something and it is presented to him, he won’t accept it even if it is good.Therefore,ifthewayofpresentationisnotsoagreeablethatitoverpowersthehatredtohearthemessage,Tablīghwillnotbeeffectiveforhim.

Therefore,mindthatyouareengagedinaverydelicatetask.FollowthemodeloftheHolyProphet(peace andblessings of Allāh be uponhim), andbe kind to others. Similarly adopt awisewayofcommunication. You will have to think that your addressee will surely change by normalcy,therefore,youneedtocommunicategently.

3. InAccordancewithHumanNature: One of the demands ofHikmat is to talk according to thetrend of the person you are talking to, and you should never be oblivious to it. Understand thetendencyofthepersonwhomyouareconversingwith.Youshouldknowwhatheavoidsandthendealwithhimaccordingly.

4.WithinYourCapabilities:AnotherdemandofHikmatistotakestockofyourowntemperamentand tendencies. Everyone can not do all kinds of Tablīgh. God has blessed faculties according toone’sowntemperament.Forinstance,abrotherusedtoweararobewithQur’ānicversesinscribedonit.Anotherbrother,QureshiMuhammadHanīfusedtoroamandpreachonhisbicycle.

To say thatonedoesnothave the capacity for Tablīgh is toblameAllāh. It is right to say that aseveryonehasdifferentcapacities,therefore,tofacetheotherpersonwillalsobeindifferentways.Everyonehashisownpersonalityandshouldtreatothersaccordingtohisowncapacity.

Youyourselfhavedifferenttemperaments.Godhasgrantedyoudifferentcapacities.Therefore,youwill have to adopt the right way of thinking about yourself and how you can discharge yourobligations in a befittingmanner. Somedonot have good conversational or public speaking skillswhile others lack in effective writing. Some are shy in public, but are good talkers in a smallcompany.Thereareotherswhocanaddresslargegatherings.Therefore,ifsomeonewillactagainsthis/herpersonalitygrantedtohim/herbyGod,s/hewillbecomealaughingstock.

5.TimesAlsoChange:Therearedifferentperiods.Needsoftimealsochange.Hikmatdemandsthatoneshouldtakeadvantageofthosetimes.Therefore,differentwaysoftalksuitatdifferenttimes.Therearetimeswhenone issadandthattimedemandsadifferentkindoftalk.Wayoftalkingathappiertimeswillbeofdifferentsort.Similarlyyouwillhavetoadoptadifferentwayatthetimesofpanic.

6. Appropriate Selection: Another demand of Hikmat is to choose the right person. There isinnumerablecreationofGodwhoyouhavetocalltowardsAllāh.Withageneralview,onecanlearnastowhowillrequirelesserhardwork.

ThereareAhmadīswhosometimesworkhardonsomeonewhoisprejudiced,adamantandfarfromTaqwā.TheyforgetthatAllāhhaspromisedtoguidethosewhoarerighteousandhavethecourageto call spade a spade. (So said Christ also not to throw pearls before the swine. Matthew 7:6)Therefore, select good natured people especially thosewho are courageous andmay themselvesbecomemuballighlater.

7.RemainConstantlyinContact:TotakecareofyourcropisanotherdemandofHikmat.Whenyouengage in Da‘wat ilAllāh or will engage, you will enjoy it. If you will not see the person you arepreachingagainandagain,youwilllosehimlikedestroyingyourharvest.Thisisbecausetheeffectofyourtablīghhasnotgoneverydeep.Youwillhavetopayconstantattention.Ifyouwillnotdoso,yourlaborwillgotowaste.

8.PrayersareNeeded:Ifyoudonotirrigateyourcrop,itwillbearnofruit.Therearetwowaysofirrigation.Oneisthewaterofyourknowledge,youimpartinthisworld.Buttherealharvestiswhenit receives the heavenly water. If you will irrigate your crop with merely your own water ofknowledge, itwillnotbringoutblessedfruit.Therefore,prayersareessentialandyouwillhavetoshedtearsinfrontofGodAlmighty.SeekhelpfromHim.

Itisthetearsofabelieverwhichbringtorrentsofblessings.Therefore,Hikmatwasmentionedfirstandthengoodwordismentioned.Goodwordisclear,trueandpiousadvicewhichhasapull.Ithasnothingtodowithanysectariandifference. Itcomesdirect fromheartandgoesstraighttoheart.Therefore,argumentscomelater,butbeginwithagoodword.

First,tellthepeoplethatyouhavesympathyforthem.Theyareruiningthemselves.Thesociety isbeing destroyed. Think, why it is being destroyed. Tell them that divine people come and afterdeliveringtheirmessagedepart.Givethemthemessagethatacallerhascomeand it isbetterforthemtoacceptthatdivinecaller.ThisisthereasonthattheHolyQur’ānadvisesnottohurry.BeginwithHikmatso thatpeopleshouldknowthatyouare truthfuland their sympathizer.Theyshouldrealizethatyouarenotinterestedonlyinyourself,butareinterestedinthemaswell.

9.Discussion:Despiteyourgoodandwiseword,peoplewillbereadytoarguewithyou.Allāhsays,therefore,wealsoadviseyoutofacethemanddonotshowyourbacktothem.Now,bepreparedandyouhavetheright toarguewith full strengthandvigorwith thosewhocounteryou.But thisencounter should not bewith brute force and it is said that arguewith themwithwhat is good.Therefore,evennow,encounterwithevilwillbewithgoodness.Theywillcomewithevilbutyouwillhave to present goodness. They wish to harm you, but you wish good for them. They will bringfeeble arguments but you present strong and powerful proofs. Represent goodness every timewhereastheywillberepresentinghatredandevil.

10.Patience: And if youwill remain patient, then know that this is better for thosewho remainpatient(HolyQur’ān,16:127).Therefore,rememberthatyoushouldshowpatience,andAllāhtellsyouthatthosewhoshowpatiencearemoresuccessfulthanothers.Itisbetterforthosewhoshowpatience, inreligiouscontests,theyshouldnottakerevengebutshouldkeepoverlookingmistakesofothersandremaintolerant.

CalltowardsthewayofAllāhbeganwithsingularnumberandnowithasbecomeplural.ThatiswhyIhadconcludedthatthedutyoftablīghisnotconfinedtotheHolyProphetaloneanditisobligatoryforhisfollowersaswell.

AllāhsaystotheHolyProphet(peaceandblessingsofAllāhbeuponhim),“Andendurethouwithpatience;andverily,thypatienceispossibleonlywiththehelpofAllāh.”(HolyQur’ān,16:128)ThismeansthatAllāhsaystohim,OMuhammad(peaceandblessingsofAllāhbeuponhim),Wedonotsaythatyoumayshowpatienceortakerevenge,asyouplease.Foryou,Ouradviceisthatyouhavetoshowpatience.WeknowthatyouarealreadyshowingpatienceforthesakeofAllāh.Therefore,youarenottoabandonthispathbecausethisisthewaythatisthebest.

Youshouldknowthatpatienceisoftwokinds.Oneispatienceinangerandotherispatienceduringgrief.YouknowthattheHolyProphetMuhammad(peaceandblessingsofAllāhbeuponhim)neverwentevennearrage.Therefore,alwaysrememberthatwehavetofollowtheHolyProphet(peaceandblessingsofAllāhbeuponhim) inwhomtherewas leastanger.Hewasthemanwhoshowedpatienceof realmother, and evenmore.He is themanwho is pining for his opponentswho areharming themselvesbynotacceptinghim.That’swhyAllāhsays: “Andgrievenot thou for them.”(HolyQur’ān,16:128).

THE KHALIFA OF ISLAM: A MAN OF PEACE
