BREAKOUT SESSIONS

Page 28: 2016 - Amazon S3...Story of The Rotary Foundation’s First 100 Years” commemorates the Foundation’s centennial in 2016-17. This book tells the fascinating story of how The Rotary

BREAKOUT SESSIONSAll breakout sessions take place in KINTEX 2. Our program of presentations, workshops, and discussions is your opportunity to learn from and work with experts, including experienced Rotarians, guest speakers, and youth and young leaders, in a variety of fields.

Breakout sessions feature presenters from around the world and explore one or more of the following topics:

• Developing leaders: tips and skills for leadership growth in Rotary, in our communities, and in business

• Partnering for success: advice for working with corporate and community partners, other clubs or districts, or club-sponsored organizations

• Promoting Rotary: exploring ways to enhance our public image and increase awareness in our communities

• Service and projects: sharing project success stories, global grant best practices, and ways to create significant projects and increase sustainability

• Strengthening membership: ideas for developing innovative clubs, fostering diversity, and improving member recruitment or retention

Most sessions are presented in English, and several offer interpretation in multiple languages. A limited number of sessions will be presented in Korean and Japanese.

See the session descriptions on pages 19-42.

THE CULTURE ZONEOpen from 13:30 to 16:30 Monday through Wednesday, the Culture Zone is your place to make new friends and learn about other cultures through a variety of hands-on activities, many of which can be enjoyed without a common language. Learn a new game, get creative with crafts, or write a postcard to yourself. Check the mobile app or drop by the room to see the schedule of activities.

SESSION AND ROOM CAPACITYAttendance is on a first-come, first-served basis. We try our best to accurately measure interest and estimate attendance for each session. Please accept our apologies if your first-choice session is filled and you are not able to attend.

For the safety of all of our participants, we must adhere to all room capacity regulations set by the venues. Please use every available seat before resorting to standing, and do not sit in the aisles.

If you’re interested in presenting a breakout session in Atlanta next year, look for the call for proposals at riconvention.org in August and September, or email [email protected] for more information.

An Innovative Disaster Response: 9/11 to 3/11 Tōhoku Outreach to JapanMonday, 30 May, 13:00-14:00, Room 404, KINTEX 2 (Japanese with English interpretation)After the physical needs created by a disaster are met, how can Rotarians address psychological and spiritual needs? After a March 2011 earthquake and tsunami devastated Japan’s Tōhoku coast, U.S. Rotary clubs affected by the 9/11 terrorist attacks developed an innovative disaster response, creating strong bonds with local Rotarians and bringing healing to survivors in both regions. You’ll learn to think beyond the deployment of supplies and professionals and see the untapped potential of peer support in sustained disaster response.

Applying for Global Grants That Promote PeaceTuesday, 31 May, 15:30-17:00, Room 304, KINTEX 2 (English)In recent years, war, conflict, and persecution have resulted in more refugees and displaced persons than the world has seen in decades. There is no better time to start building sustainable projects in our peace and conflict prevention/resolution area of focus. Hear about successful projects and opportunities for collaboration with the Rotarian Action Group for Peace and with Rotary Peace Fellows, and learn ways to identify potential partner organizations while exploring the global grant application process.

Be a Gift to the Community: How Rotarians Can Support Startups and Social BusinessTuesday, 31 May, 16:00-17:00, Room 406, KINTEX 2 (English)How can you support business growth in your own backyard? Badge stickers are available through self-service at the Ribbon Booth. Language stickers let others know what languages you speak. Also available are stickers to show that you’re involved in various youth programs and the number of conventions you’ve attended.

CONVENTION FEEDBACKYour opinion helps us plan future conventions. Tell us

about your convention experience by completing the survey you’ll receive by email after the convention. You can also share feedback about breakout sessions using the convention mobile app.
