HFU was established in 2008 and now has 102 registered patients. There are an estimated 3,800 people with hemophilia in Uganda. Program Partner Visits India From January 18 to 31 executive director Martha Hopewell traveled to India to assess the impact of Save One Life’s first scholarships and micro-enterprise grants. With Usha Parthasarathy, Save One Life’s India program coordinator, Martha interviewed 30 scholarship awardees and visited ten micro-enterprise grant recipients, in addition to distributing sponsorship funds. Uganda From April 21 to 30 president Laurie Kelly visited Uganda, in eastern Africa, to assess the readiness of the Haemophilia Foundation of Uganda to join Save One Life. She spent time in the capital city of Kampala to meet with HFU's executive committee to discuss programs. InternationalLuncheonSave One Lifewelcomed sponsors, program partnersand manyinternationalvisitors at our boothduring the WorldFederation ofHemophilia (WFH)Congress in Orlando, Florida from July 24 to 28.

The highlight of the week was hosting a luncheon for ourprogram partners and corporate sponsors on Tuesday, July 26.Forty people from around the world gathered to celebrate thegood work we've achieved together over 15 years.

We presented our 2016 Program Partner of the Year award tothe Honduras Hemophilia Association. Its founder and

president, Maria del CarmenAgurcia, sharedhow shocked shewas in the early1980’s to observethat most of theregisteredhemophilia patients at the nationalhospital had the word "deceased" next to their names. That catalyzed her toaction. Today the association has over 250 members and hassuccessfully lobbied the government to provide factor to thecountry's five regional hospitals.

15th Anniversary Gala More than 130 enthusiastic guests arrived at the ManhattanPenthouse in New York City on September 29 to mark a veryspecial occasion... Save One Life's 15th anniversary!

Our special guest was the famous Major League Baseballshortstop Tony Fernández, who attended with his charming wife,Clara. Tony's best friend and Toronto Blue Jays teammate,Damaso García, has a son with hemophilia in the DominicanRepublic. García's wife, Haydée, organized the first hemophiliacamp for children there, which Tony visited on numerousoccasions. He shared a moving story of helping his friend embrace his hemophilic son’s condition those many years ago.

Save One Life presented its 2016 Inspiration Award to our very own Usha Parthasarathy, mother of two children withhemophilia, who has worked tirelessly for the cause ofhemophilia in India for more than two decades. Usha helpedLaurie establish Save One Life's first international partnershipwith Hemophilia Federation (India). For the past seven yearsUsha has graciously volunteered as Save One Life's India program coordinator, helping us manage 25 program partners and more than 770 beneficiaries.

The special treat of the evening was a piano performance by 16-year-old Mihai Stefanescu, a Save One Life beneficiarywho has won piano competitions in his home country,Romania, and Europe. Mihai is largely self-taught, as hisfamily could only afford one piano lesson a month. Due to his hemophilia and limited access to factor, Mihai must oftenice his fingers and wrists after practicing. It was an honor tohave Mihai and his mother, Georgeta, and we thank WendyChou of the New York Hemophilia Chapter and her family for hosting them.
