Cancellation Information• The Section Office must receive a written cancellation of your registration with a refund request no less than

ten (10) business days prior to course, event, or activity. Requests can be sent by fax, mail, or e-mail. Refunds aresubject to a $10 administrative fee

• Memberships cannot be cancelled

• “No Shows” will not receive a refund

Course Description: This seminar reviews the basic operatingprinciples of hydraulically operated, diaphragmactuated control valves. Examples are given for

applications requiring on/off and modulatingcontrol and how to determine which valve willbest meet a particular system’s requirements.Includes a discussion of technical issues

related to altitude valves, including operationaltheory, proper sizing, installation, operation,maintenance and trouble shooting. Hands-onstations allow students to review preventativemaintenance, visual illustration of how altitudevalves and pressure reducing valves operate,

Course Description: The course is designed to improveunderstanding of basic laboratory skills usedin water treatment plants. General informationon laboratory safety, practices and testingprotocols, including sampling guidelines, is

presented. Analytical techniques covered

include temperature, pH, alkalinity, hardness,colorimetry (for chlorine and fluoride testing),turbidity and coagulation/flocculation(including jar testing). Course objectives willbe met by presenting background/theory,incorporating practical applications of analytictesting and thorough hands- on experience,

using portable field use and laboratoryinstruments. Participants are required to analyzwater samples of known and unknown values.



Chlorine and Sodium Hypochloritefor Water/Wastewater TreatmentDate and Location: June 7 - Olean Water Treatment Plant

Course Description: This session provides information and safety training on chlorine and sodiumhypochlorite for disinfection; reviewing basic information on disinfection and themicrobes that cause waterborne disease; discussing technical issues includingoperational theory of hypochlorites and chlorine gas, proper pump and tubing sizing

and troubleshooting the process. This sessions includes two videos: both from theChlorine Institute, one presents technical information on the safe handling of liquidsodium hypochlorite and one presents technical information on the safe handling ofliquid and gaseous chlorine. Also discussed will be how chlorates and bromates areformed in hypochlorite and how their formation can be controlled and the advantagand considerations of generating sodium hypochlorite on site. This session reviewsinformation necessary to calculate dosages of sodium hypochlorite.
