About the Festival

Festival Mission: Our festival mission is to:

Generate increased demand for local and sustainably produced food through education and promotion.

Support the growth and development of local farms and locally owned foodrelated businesses.

Increase the availability and access of healthy local food to urban communities.

Facilitate collaborations between local food farms, businesses, and public and nonprofit organizations.

Our Definition of Local Food: We define local as Massachusetts grown and produced as the first preference, and then expanding beyond the state to Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont in New England.

Participating Vendor Requirements: All dishes/portions must be made from locally grown or sourced perishable foods such as:

Fruits, vegetables, herbs, honey and maple syrup Dairy and dairy products Meat & Fish

Massachusetts grown or sourced is the first preference and then expanding beyond to the New England region CT, ME, NH, RI and VT (no specific order). If any ingredients are not produced in MA or New England, SBN Requests that vendors select the next most local option (PA, NY, Quebec etc.) and/or the most sustainable option available organic, fair trade etc. Vendors should clearly label what farms/suppliers and their locations are being used in their dishes at the event to inform customers (Ex. Braised beef from Lyndell Farm, Pepperell, MA served with sautéed collards from Red Fire Farm, Granby, MA). In addition, all vendors are required to conform to SBN’s ZeroWaste festival rules:

Absolutely NO Styrofoam use is allowed at the festival All food and beverages must be served in/on recyclable or compostable

containers and service ware All silverware must be compostable as plastic silverware is not recyclable Bottled water sales is not allowed (water stations are provided for vendors

and guests) If you need help sourcing recyclable or compostable service ware please contact SBN at: [email protected] or call us at 6173950250

The result: eggs with lovely deep yellow yolks, and slowgrowing meat birds that have a deep, delicious flavor. Our birds are available fresh from July through October, or frozen all year. Phone: (413) 6489623 Email: [email protected] Foxbard Farm, Shelburne, MA Offer: Grassfed beef Our objective is to produce highquality, all natural, grassfed Black Angus beef. local grasses like timothy, red clover, orchard, and canary grasses. Late in the fall they move to our winter pasture where they receive hay and grass silage cut from our meadows. Phone: (413) 6254604 Email: [email protected] Website: http://www.foxbardfarm.com/ Hardwick Beef, Hardwick, MA Offer: Grassfed beef At Hardwick Beef, we provide the very best beef from animals that are raised on grass, without any antibiotics or added hormones. There is an increasing demand for safe and healthy food, and a demand for an ability to track a cow from birth onward. With mad cow disease an evergrowing concern, consumers want to know if their food is safe. We are promoting a return to grass farming. As animals are moved from one fresh paddock to another, grass is continually being grazed when the vitamins, minerals, and proteins are at their best. Consequently, cattle get the best possible nutrition, manure is spread evenly across the land, and the farmland actually improves with use.

Yearround availability through Boston area distributor Prima Provisions: Phone: (617) 4644130 Website: http://www.hardwickbeef.com/ King Creek Farm, Ware, MA Offer: Grassfed beef, freerange pork King Creek Farm is located in the Ware Center Historic District on Route 9 in Ware, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Feeding animals in pastures, with trees for shade and protection from the elements, room to roam so that the cattle can spread out, short grass for keeping the livestock cool in the summer, and fresh water, virtually eliminates disease problems in the herd.
