Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Schools

2016 Catholic Educators Gathering

Prayer Service & Commissioning

River Center Ballroom

Welcome

Mr. Michael

Miller Good morning and WELCOME to the 2016 Diocese of Baton Rouge Catholic Educators

Gathering. As we embark on a new school year, we place our trust in our all-knowing God,

beginning with unified prayer and asking the Holy Spirit to work within our hearts, minds

and souls; allowing Him to guide us into growing seeds of mercy.

Let us begin in song & praise

Opening Song: Seed, Scattered and Sown

Seed, scattered and sown, wheat, gathered and grown,

bread, broken and shared as one, the Living Bread of God.

Vine, fruit of the land, wine, work of our hands,

one cup that is shared by all; the Living Cup, the Living Bread of God.

1. Is not the bread we break a sharing in our Lord?

Is not the cup we bless the blood of Christ outpoured?

Seed, scattered and sown...

2. The seed which falls on rock will wither and will die.

The seed within good ground will flower and have life.

Seed, scattered and sown...

3. As wheat upon the hills was gathered and was grown,

So may the church of God be gathered into one.

Seed, scattered and sown...

Invitation to Prayer

Bishop Muench Peace be with you.

All And with your spirit.

Bishop Muench

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the gift of today as we gather in love and service. We

offer ourselves to you during our time together as we open our hearts to Your Word. We

ask You to pour your love deep within our hearts as we grow the seeds of mercy through

our words and deed, following your Son, Jesus Christ, who is the face of mercy. Enlighten

our minds with the gifts of the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to make our efforts bear good

fruit. We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with the Holy Spirit,

one God forever and ever.

All

Amen

A Reading from the Gospel of Matthew (Mt. 13:1-9, 18-23, 31-32)

On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. Such large crowds

gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood

along the shore. And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: “A sower went out to

sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell

on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not

deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed

fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil

and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.

“Hear then the parable of the sower. The seed sown on the path is the one who hears the

word of the kingdom without understanding it, and the evil one comes and steals away

what was sown in his heart. The seed sown on rocky ground is the one who hears the word

and receives it at once with joy. But he has no root and lasts only for a time. When some

tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, he immediately falls away. The seed

sown among thorns is the one, who hears the word, but then worldly anxiety and the lure

of riches choke the word and it bears no fruit. But the seed sown on rich soil is the one who

hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or

thirtyfold.

He proposed another parable to them. “The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed that

a person took and sowed in a field. It is the smallest of all the seeds, yet when full-grown it

is the largest of plants. It becomes a large bush, and the ‘birds of the sky come and dwell

in its branches.’”

The Gospel of the Lord

All Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ!

Reflection

Bishop Muench Reflection

Meditative Song: Prayer of St. Francis Verse 1: Verse2: Make me a channel of your peace. Make me a channel of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me bring your love. Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope.

Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord, Where there is darkness only light,

And where there’s doubt, true faith in you. And where there’s sadness ever joy.

Refrain: Verse 3: Oh Master, grant that I may never seek Make me a channel of your peace. So much to be consoled as to console. It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

To be understood as to understand, In giving of ourselves that we receive,

To be loved as to love with all my soul. And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.

I:

For all who serve in Catholic schools, that the Holy Spirit may increase their zeal, wisdom

and endurance to grow the seeds of mercy, we pray to the Lord…

For those who have died, that God may grant the gift of eternal salvation, we pray to the

Lord…

All

In a world that is changing

daily, how are our teachers,

administrators and technology

specialists to plan for the future

of instruction? The key is not to

look at headlines, breakthrough

products, or fads, but to

examine the greater trends

which these support. This

presentation will examine ten

major trends in technology that

will likely have impact on

education. We will look at

possibilities, challenges, and

Father,

Thank you for all these men and women who have given their talents to educating our young people. Through the challenges they encounter each day, lead them to an ever deeper appreciation of the sacred duty to which you have called them. We give thanks for the invaluable work of all those who contribute to the efficient running of our schools; support staff, kitchen staff, maintenance staff, priests and chaplains. We thank them for their hard work and dedication and we pray that they may continue to work in support of our schools. Thank you for all those who lead our Catholic schools. May they be people of integrity so that they can be witnesses as well as teachers. We pray that the schools they lead will become places where our young people can experience your love in their lives. Thank you for our Catholic schools. Help us to pray without ceasing, to work without wavering and to give without grudging in order to ensure the future of Catholic education for all of our children We make this prayer through your Son, Jesus Christ, our teacher and our Lord,

Amen.
