WELCOME! Dear Colleagues,

It is time to make your reservations for the 2016 Combined Annual Meeting of

the Southwest Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, the Texas Society of

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and the Midwestern Chapter of Oral and

Maxillofacial Surgeons, in joint providership with the American Association of

Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. We are excited about the opportunities to be

presented at this year’s meeting at The Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention

Center, April 14-17, 2016.

Conveniently located in close proximity to the Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, the Gaylord

Texan Resort offers Southern hospitality and a Texas atmosphere proudly displaying “everything’s bigger

in Texas”. The resort overlooks beautiful Grapevine Lake and offers eclectic shops and a lush indoor

garden and is the perfect venue for our 87th Annual Meeting.

Over the past 87 years, the Southwest Society of OMS has provided excellent annual meeting

opportunities and this year is no exception. The meeting will kick off on Thursday morning with

Southwest, Texas and Midwest Society board of directors meetings followed by our annual golf

tournament to be held at The Cowboys Course and a Welcome Reception Thursday evening. On

Friday, the renowned Byrd-Tilson-Walker Resident’s Day program will provide an opportunity for us to

recognize the best and brightest from training programs in the Southwest and Midwestern region. This is

the 5th opportunity for our society to again present the Robert V. Walker, DDS award to a resident for the

most outstanding presentation during the program. Following a short break for lunch, attendees will

then have the opportunity to hear Jeffrey Bennett, DMD address the current concepts and treatment

modalities for the delivery of Office Based Anesthesia.

Following the evening reception Friday, the Baylor OMS Alumni (BOMSAA), UTHSC-SA Alumni, and

Oklahoma University Alumni (OU) organizations have arranged for a special dinner hosted on site in

one of the acclaimed dining areas. On Saturday, registrants will have an opportunity to hear our keynote

speakers, Mark J. Steinberg, DDS, MD, FACS and Gary A. Morris, DDS as they address:

“Complications in Implant Dentistry”. We are again pleased and privileged to partner with AAOMS

and provide up to 11 hours of continuing dental (ADA CERP)* and medical (ACCME)* education

credits to participants.

There are numerous social activities planned including receptions on Thursday and Friday evening, Golf

tournament on Thursday afternoon and a Companion program that will inspire the senses on Friday

morning. Saturday evening, we will bring our annual meeting to a close with dinner and entertainment off

site at the unique Boi Na Braza Brazilian restaurant.

We encourage you to begin planning for this exciting weekend and to secure your hotel reservations as

well as your meeting registration now. We look forward to seeing you at The Gaylord!

Sincerely,

David M. Grogan, DDS, MSD President, SWSOMS

PRESIDENT’S EVENT

We invite you to enjoy an evening of dinner and entertainment at

the Boi Na Braza restaurant.

A unique type of cooking, at Boi NA Braza, inspired by the Gaúchos

native to Brazil, is called churrasco (pronounced shoo.rhas'.ko). After

digging pits in the ground, the Gaúchos would start a fire with wood

from the rangelands of the Pampas. Once the fire turned to embers,

large portions of prime meats were skewered and slowly roasted to

perfection over the fire pits. As groups of families would gather for

meals, Gaúchos would carry bountiful portions of skewered meats,

along with fruits and vegetables to the table. Using traditional knives,

which Gaúchos wore on their belts, they sliced thin and tender pieces

of meat. The succulent meats were served, continuously to all.

This unique style of preparing and serving food is the tradition of the

Brazilian Gaúcho. The Churrascaria is now a staple of Brazilian life

today - and an experience we would like to share with you in our

Steak House.

Guests will enjoy a gourmet, self-made salad from the salad bar that is

in the main dining area. Once seated in the private dining room guests

will then be served sixteen sizzling meats, to indulge in true Brazilian

tradition.
