Steve Brook is returning to the Rascals dugout for his seventh consecutive season as the Rascals manager after pitching four years with the club. He carries quite an impressive resume going into the new campaign and is searching for his second Frontier League Championship. Since taking over in 2010, the skipper has guided the Rascals to a 378-276 record, a pair of first place division finishes, four postseason appearances and the first Rascals championship in franchise history in 2010.

Brook grew up in Frankfort, Illinois, a south suburb of Chicago and stayed in Illinois to play collegiate ball at Illinois Wesleyan where he was named the most valuable player and most valuable pitcher in 2003. Brook joined the Rascals the following year and was very successful as a rookie posting a 10-2 record with a 2.95 ERA. The former Rascals ace would go on to pitch three more seasons in a Rascals uniform and holds various records including 33 wins, 64 starts, 448 innings pitched and 332 strikeouts. His final record was 33-17 with a 4.14 ERA in 76 career games.

In 2008, Brook was the pitching coach and in 2009 he was the Bench Coach and earned his MS in Physical Education/Athletic Administration from the University of Central Missouri in 2008 before becoming the manager in 2010. In each playoff appearance Brook has guided the Rascals to, they have made the championship series and look to do that for the third year in a row and hope to bring back the Frontier League pennant for the second time in Rascals history.

Asst. Coach/Hitting Coach .............................. Josh LudyCatcher Josh Ludy signed a contract exten-sion on January 16th and three days later was named the hitting coach, replacing Eric Williams who landed a position within the St. Louis Cardinals organization. The player/coach is entering his third season with the Rascals and has been an integral part of the team’s success hitting .296 in 205 games with 33 homeruns and 132 RBI. After being named an all-star in 2014 hitting .362 and 16 homeruns in 51 games, Ludy signed with Oakland A’s and played the rest of the season with their Class-A affiliate, Beloit.

“This is a great place to start my coaching career at and eventually I want to coach at the college level,” Ludy said. “However, I don’t feel like my playing days are over yet so Brook giving me this chance is a win-win.”

Bench Coach..............................Alex Ferguson

Alex Ferguson enters his first year with the Rascals after spending last season with the Frontier Greys, who played all 96 games on the road and are not part of the league this year. Playing in O’Fallon against the Rascals nine times last year, Ferguson learned more and more about the team and since he lives in the area, he decided it was the right decision.

REMEMBER JOSH SILVER: On June 5th, third baseman Josh Silver was signed by the Chicago Cubs organization and was placed with the South Bend Cubs (A). Silver led the Frontier league in batting average with a .455 through 77 at-bats and was second in home runs (5) and fifth in RBI (18). On top of those, Silver also led the team in multiple other catagories including hits (35), runs (16), OBP (.506) and slugging (.701). He started all 20 games at third base and is also in the Frontier League record books as the only player to hit two grand slams in a game. However, he was released on July 20th after hitting .228 in 23 games and resigned with the Rascals that same day.

GET ON WITH IT: Josh Silver has reached base in 50 of the 52 games he has played in for the Rascals and has a hit in 40 of them, including a former 13 game hit streak. He also currently holds the longest reached base streak, 15 games, followed by Mike Jurgella with an eleven game streak.

YARD WORK: Currently in 2016, eleven different Rascals have hit a home run: Alexi Colon, Robby Enslen, Clint Freeman, Kyle Gaedele, Griff Gordon, Mike Jurgella, Josh Ludy, Willi Martin, Johnny Morales, Josh Silver, Dominique Taylor. Top highlights include Silvers grand slam against Florence on 5/18, Silver’s two home run game on 5/29, Alexi Colon’s two three run home run game on June 8th at home vs. Florence and back-to-back homeruns by Josh Ludy and Clint Freeman on July 24th.

FEELING HOT, HOT, HOT: Since the start of August (19 games), Robby Enslen is batting .344 (22-64) with seven doubles, three home runs and 17 RBI, a .403 OBP and a .594 slugging, good for a .997 OPS. On the year, Enslen is ranked fourth on the team in batting average, second on the team in home runs and third in RBI.

I PRESENT YOU ALEXI COLON: Center fielder Alexi Colon was signed on June 7th and has been one of top offensive weapons since. The New Jersey native is first on the team in slugging with a .553 and has more home runs (16) and walks (54) than any other Rascal despite missing out on the first 20 games of the season. Colon spent the past three years with the Schaumburg Boomers and is two home runs, seven RBI and one stolen base away from a new career high in all three catagories.

THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK: Josh Ludy was named to his third consecutive Frontier League All-Star Game on July 3rd and has been one of the top Frontier League players since joining the Rascals in 2014. The catcher is currently hitting .286 with three home runs and 32 RBI and has committed just one error in 45 games behind the plate. In his Rascals career, Ludy holds a .293 average with 34 home runs and 146 RBI.
