Tickets are going fast! Great stocking stuffers!

Greetings to All! WELCOME HOME EVERYONE!! It’s going to be another GREAT season!! I am so excited to see so many of you back having FUN!! * Our newly expanded recycling program is going well and I appreciate all of your participation. Please remember to crush boxes before disposal. * Please review your map for the direction we are traveling to collect your trash. We made some changes from last year for safety reasons.

Please comply. * I ask that you please save your plastic grocery bags to be used in our dog bag dispensers. Please drop them by the Activities Office. Thank you! * ARTS AND CRAFTS GROUPS: We would like to “show off” our talented artists’ crafts, on a rotation schedule, in the lighted display case in our lobby. Please contact me for further details. *Many of you may be interested in signing up for CenturyLink services

for the duration of your stay. They have expanded their service base for GVR. It will be a snap to do so, if you would call the local, dedicated CL

store at: 480-641-1680 and not the toll free number. You can arrange for your service to begin before you

arrive!! Plus, GVR will receive $25 for every new (re)activation! Everybody wins! Also, CenturyLink’s exclusive support team will be here December 1, January 11, and February 2 to make presentations and answer questions you have. There may be prizes, too! *I invite your feedback upon your return regarding any changes you see!! Questions, comments, concerns, jokes are always accepted in my office! And, as always, I welcome your comments in writing. *Safe Travels to all who are not here yet!

P.S. A special thank you goes out to our wonderful volunteers!! We can’t make it without you!! We appreciate you!! * HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!! Respectfully, Mary Ash, General Manager

Let’s Hear It From Your

Board of Directors! It is always exciting returning to

Greenfield Village for another season. Welcome Back! The Board of Directors will be meeting twice in December. We encourage you to attend both meetings. (See reminders below.) The Board and GVR Staff have recently completed two notable projects including the beautification of the front entrance and the south restrooms in the ballroom. Hope you have had a chance to look at them. They look great! The Board is working on the new

budget and the long range plan. Both are important to sustain our financial responsibility for the fiscal year. Reminders: Town Hall – December 9, 1-3 pm, Ballroom Open Forum/Board Meeting – December 14, 2:30 pm, Ballroom Announcements: The deadline for returning Candidate Applications for Board of Directors is December 16. A great deal of effort goes into photographing candidates, preparing the bios and viewing board, etc. Please get your applications in early.

Joe Huston, Secretary

Volunteers are what keep our resort

running. We are still in need of

volunteers in the Activities Office to

help sell tickets to our many events,

answer phones, make copies, and

help all residents who come in to

chat or ask questions. I am in need

of one person for Tuesday mornings

and one for the afternoons, also one

for Wednesday and Thursday

afternoons. And for the month of

December I will need one person for

Friday afternoons as well. If you can

commit to one of these days for the

rest of the season, please stop in and

talk with Heidi and let’s see where

we can use your expertise.

Also, the kitchen is in need of some

help on either Wednesdays or

Fridays. Even if you can only help

once a month, that would be a great

help.

Bingo Snack Bar on Tuesday nights

at 8 pm for 10 minutes also needs

someone.

This resort cannot run without

everyone's help, so please come and

give us a hand.

Manager’s Korner!!

Papercrafting Our much asked for activity has been a success. Coming

together to work on our personal projects and projects that other “crafters” brought for us to try, has been so much fun. This group is in the infancy stage and we look for suggestions on what is wanted by each of you to make this work for everyone. Papercrafting is an umbrella for many different projects using paper, such as greeting cards, scrapbooking, photo albums, etc. This activity is a workshop to work on any of your papercrafting

projects. No formal classes are planned. If you have a problem or need ideas on your project, other members will be happy to help you. It will be held in the Craft Room Thursdays from 7-9 pm. We will be closed on holidays, exact closure dates will be posted. Bring your favorite project along with your suggestions on making this evening a FUN, FUN time. Contact is Shirley Pedersen at (480)832-1171.

President’s Message

Time flies when you’re having fun. Many of us arrived back in the Resort

in October and I am already writing a message for the December Villager. I hope you had a good summer and you are ready to enjoy another winter in beautiful Greenfield Village. Your Board held monthly teleconference meetings over the summer and we have already had a workshop and a regular meeting in November. Minutes from these meetings were posted in the Resort and are available on our website.

You will notice many changes and additions have been implemented in the Resort over the summer. I suggest you refer to Mary’s November Manager’s Report (available online) for details. I want to compliment Mary and her staff for the work they undertook over the summer and for how beautiful, clean and tidy the Resort looks. Great job! Our Budget & Finance Committee and our Long Range Planning

Committee have been working hard to prepare budgets for 2017/18. The Board reviewed their recommendations in November and we have scheduled a Town Hall meeting on Friday, Dec. 9 and a Regular Board meeting on Jan. 18 to present recommendations to our residents. I encourage you to attend one of these meetings. Our Auditor, Butler Hansen, recently completed their financial audit. Their report was favorable; however, it

once again noted that our reserve fund (Long Range Plan) is underfunded. As of June 2016, there was approximately $250,000 in our reserve fund equating to 11% of the estimated replacement cost of reserve components. Industry practice is generally to maintain a funding level of at least 60% of estimated replacement cost. The Board will be addressing this underfunding

and recommending remediation measures in the upcoming budget

approval process. Butler Hansen will be presenting their report at our January 18 Board meeting. The Board struck a Common Area Study Committee in March, 2016. The Committee's mandate is to prepare a report that identifies, over the next 10 years, potential additions, changes or modifications to the common area in the Resort in order to meet the needs of the existing and future Greenfield Village residents. Ron Thorstad chairs the Committee.

You will have received correspondence from Ron explaining the study and identifying how you can sign up for focus group meetings in order to provide your input. A Conservation Committee is being formed. Its task will be to investigate ways for Greenfield, as individuals and as a resort, to save money and resources such as water and electricity through conservation efforts. If you are interested in serving on this new committee, contact Marci McClelland at 480-807-8964. The terms for four of your Board Members expire in February 2017 and we are looking for nominations to fill these positions. Speaking from experience I can tell you that sitting on the Board is rewarding and provides an excellent way to understand how our Resort operates, provides an opportunity to meet new people and provides an avenue for

Board members to better understand and represent residents’ views. Nomination forms are included in the November and December Villager. Glen McKee (Lot 344) is our Nomination Committee Chair and if you are interested, please contact Glen or send your nomination form to him. Nominations must be received by December 15, 2016.

I would be remiss if I did not thank all of the volunteers (Activity Office,

Main Office, Snowbird Cafe, club functions, club executives, etc, etc) who work tirelessly to keep our Resort running smoothly. Without your help our dues would be higher and many activities might not take place. Thank you volunteers. Enjoy the winter in our Resort. Mike Gwilliam President, Greenfield Village Resort

Craft Sharing

We want to thank everyone for making a lanyard at our opening class. They are sold in the Activity Office making a little bit of money for replenishing our supplies. Christmas is just around the corner. We have a couple of weeks to get in

the spirit by making some decorations or ornaments. We are not a club. We are a group of people that like to make crafts and share our ideas. Even if you don’t think you are a “crafter” come and try your hand at a project, you may find you really are. We help each other. If we have the supplies for a project the class is usually $1.00. If someone is teaching a class and we don’t have the supplies there is either a shopping list of supplies you will need to purchase, or the supplies will be provided and the cost of the supplies will be passed on to class members. For those classes there is usually a sign-up sheet in the Activities hallway. Each week there is a poster on the board in the Activities hallway and one on the board across from the Post Office showing the project and pertinent information you will need to know concerning the class. As usual the doors will be open from 9:00 am to noon and 1-4 pm.

We will be closed for holidays so watch the bulletin boards for those closings. If you have any questions please contact Shirley Pedersen (480) 832-1171 or Fran Christie (480) 396-0397.

Creative Writing Classes will start officially on November 25, at 9:30 to 11 am in the Cactus Room. If you are new to Greenfield, or have debated about joining our group, come and sit in for a session, listen to our stories and share our memories. Everyone has a story to tell.
