Contributions to the Foundation are tax deductible. All friends will be included on the Friends of the Pennsylvania Farm Show Foundation, Inc. website and will receive a Friendship card and commemorative pin. As a friend, you are eligible to participate in the organization of educational programs, events, and incentives throughout the duration of the Farm Show. SHEEP TO SHAWL/FLEECE TO SHAWLAn annual Pennsylvania Farm Show favorite since 1980. The educational event has stood the test of time because it is a demonstration which brings many people back to their roots as well as educates the younger attendees. They get to experience spinning and weaving of wool as it was done in America for many years.

AGRICULTURE CAREER/TECHNOLOGY COMPETITIONThis is a competition event for the FFA Chapters within the state of Pennsylvania. Subject areas include agricultural technology and/or agricultural career opportunities. Competition may include some or all of the following: demonstration, video, display and networking with agricultural industry and/or post secondary institutions. FFA Chapters will participate under the guidelines of Farm Show Department 35.

FARM&DRAFT CLASS HORSE PULLING DEMONSTRATIONPresenting the original agricultural “horse power,” the horses, exhibited in the pulling classes compete to pull the most amount of weight. These equines demonstrate the amount of strength necessary on the farm in order to complete heavy-duty jobs.

LEARNING STATIONSYouth visitors can “investigate” the show by becoming a Farm Show Detective. They can visit all the learning stations throughout the complex by following a map, taking the opportunity to investigate many features of agriculture like alpacas, apples, beef and veal, bees, the butter sculpture, dairy, dogs, edible nuts, family living center, farm equipment, farmland preservation, food safety, goats, horses, mushrooms, pigs, poultry, rabbits, sheep, vegetables, veterinary medicine and the wood mobile.

PA EQUINE SHOWCASELearn about the variety of equine breeds and activities, including equestrian drill teams, trick riding classes, dressage and jumping, equine versatility and musical freestyle demonstrations and the cowboy mounted action shooting.

~ 2017 SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES ~

ANTIQUE TRACTOR DISPLAY AND PULLNearly 100 select antique tractors and farm trucks will be on display in the Equine Area. Favorite tractor brands, as well as a few rare brands, will be featured. Antique tractors will compete in a pulling contest as defined by the Rough and Tumble Engineers Historical Association pulling standards.

CHILDREN’S PEDAL TRACTOR PULLBoys and girls weighing between 40 and 90 pounds can participate in a pedal pull contest in one of five weight classes. First and second place winners in each class will win prizes, and each participant will receive a coloring book.The event is managed by the Waterloo Boys 2 Cylinder Club of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

CUMBERLAND 4-H DRILL TEAMThese talented youth ride horseback to a choreographed music routine of intricate maneuvers and patterns. PA HIGH SCHOOL RODEOStudents in grades 8-12 participate in the same rodeo classes as the professionals on the same livestock. Seats fill early and this event is one of the most popular Farm Show events.

CARRIAGE RACING Drivers pilot single horse and two horse teams in this exciting race around obstacles in the arena. This event is a definite crowd pleaser with the audience cheering for their favorites.

FAMILY LIVING DISPLAYS/STAGEExhibiting everything from homemaking traditions such as canning, quilting, sewing and baking to youth activities such as crafts, posters and photography, these displays are often works of art themselves and a main attraction to visitors.

HORSE LOGGING DEMONSTRATIONPresented by Bear Hill Horse Logging of Clearfield County, teams of horses do log skidding demonstrations with log carts or ground skidding to show restorative forestry practices. Also a Farm Show Detectives learning station, kids can see tools, horseshoes and photographs related to logging.

HORSESHOE PITCHINGA long-standing Farm Show tradition, horseshoe pitching began in 1931, was eliminated in 1957, and reestablished in 2007. Considered one of the most prestigious tournaments in the National Horseshoe Association circuit, the competitors also do a hands-on demonstration for show visitors.

PLEASURE DRAFT HORSE SHOWThe show is designed to showcase the versatility of the draft horse. This crowd-pleasing show draws exhibitors from across the state for friendly competition thanks to increased premiums.

FFA MID-WINTER CONVENTIONNearly 5,000 Pennsylvania FFA members gather for their annual Mid-Winter Convention. Students receive Keystone Degrees, state stars and their famed blue corduroy jackets. The FFA provides its members with leadership development opportunities through classroom instruction, career development contests and real world agricultural career placement.

LUMBERJACK DEMOCollegiate and professional lumberjacks & jills will demonstrate their skills in crosscut sawing, three chopping event; underhand, standing block and spring board as well as everyone's favorite event, the hot saw competition.

SHAVER'S CREEK ENVIRONMENT CENTERShaver's Creek offers many hands-on-oppurtunties for children and adults of all ages. The center strives to inform the public about relationships between ecology and the environment. The booth on the main floor will feature many species of life such as raptors, snakes, turtles Monarch butterflies and amphibians.

PA SPEEDHORSE ARENA EVENTThis event consists of fun competition in pole bending, chalk keyhole, flag racing and dual flag racing for all ages. The event has a dual purpose providing safe equine learning experience and teaching farm show attendees about the horse industry.

THE MIKE WAUGH CELEBRITY DRAFT HORSE TEAM DRIVINGThrough a vision of the Farm Show Draft Horse exhibitors this event has become one of the largest fund raisers for the Friends of Farm Show Foundation. The fun filled activity is held is the Equine Arena Tuesday evening of Farm Show. Any individual or business entity may participate in the competition, the Foundation will accept the first 20 sponsors who are willing to donate $850 to sponsor a local celebrity such as state and local legislators, government employees, television/radio personalities or other celebrities that are well known in Pennsylvania. The contestants will compete in a fun filled atmosphere as their supporters watch from the side lines.

OXEN DEMOGenerations ago oxen were a critical part of Pennsylvania agriculture. Oxen provided "power" for farmers to till soil, plant and harvest crops on nearly every homestead farm in Pennsylvania. You will learn how oxen performed on farms before machines and tractors replaced the need for these majestic animals.

Additional opportunities will be available at the 2017 Farm Show. The Farm Show staff may entertain events that you wish to sponsor. Please contact the foundation with your thoughts and ideas. We are open to new events for the 2017 show.
