See if you agree with Robert Parker’s opinion by comparing 100-point wines: 2005 Colgin or 2007 Hundred Acre. Be bold! The grand fi nale of this lot includes the legendary 1997 Screaming Eagle, arguably the greatest bottle ever produced in Napa. It’s ready to drink now — don’t pass up this opportunity!

For those of you that participated in our “Reserve Room,” we thank you for your support, and we also sincerely hope you enjoyed the amazing wine and food you were fortunate enough to experience. With heartfelt thanks we also extend our gratitude to these world-class boutique wineries for attending our event and sharing with us the fruits of their labor. We truly wish every guest at the auction was able to join us in the Reserve Room, but these “cult” and waitlisted wines are so low in production and so high in demand it is not feasible for them to bring enough to share with everybody. Here is your opportunity!

This collection would be impossible to obtain anywhere else, but here tonight.

Thank you to the following Reserve Room wineries for providing a Magnum for this incredible collection of wines.

We are generally not a delayed-wine-gratification society. The vast majority of wine in America — estimates range from 70% to 90% — is consumed within 24 hours of purchase. After all, who has time and space to cellar wine? To be sure, most wine is made to be drunk pretty much right away. Most Pinot Grigio, for instance, should have been drunk yesterday. Most inexpensive American Zinfandels, Merlots, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are drink-now wines because they often lack enough tannins or acids to give them much of a long life.

Not with Burgundy, where patience truly is a virtue! Both red and white Burgundy (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay) age gracefully and can mature into transcendent, magical drinking experiences. The reward of this fortitude is the root of the passion for this fi endishly complex wine which is so revered by many.

Here’s your chance…

This collection of Premier and Grand Crus has been carefully compiled by an experienced collector, with a common thread that they are all appropriately aged and ready to enjoy. Included are legendary Domaines such as Mugnier, Ponsot, Bize, Girardin and a Romanee-Conti La Tache, arguably the most exalted wine in the world.

Who knows, maybe your transcendent experience awaits in a bottle below…

Before the phenomenon of “Cult” wines, Napa produced incredible wines for decades. Year after year, these wines capture the spirit of California Cabernet: big, dark, rich and fruity.Producers such as Caymus, Chateau Montelena, Silver Oak, Staglin Family and Dunn Vineyards have been making wine in Napa since the early 70’s, and were considered the greatest wines in California before scores and scarcity became the driving force behind skyrocketing wine prices in the 90’s.

This collection of “Old-School Cults” exemplifies the great wine from a previous era in Napa from some of the best vintages, including 1997 Silver Oak, 1989 Chateau Montelena and a mid-90’s vertical of Staglin Family.

PINOT ENVYLIVE LOT

16The Cote d’Or region of Burgundy has been the motherland of Pinot Noir for centuries. It wasn’t until the 20th century that this tempermental grape began its journey to the new world, and now some of the silkiest, most unctuous examples are produced right here in California. Each vineyard, even down to the block, can show wildly different characteristics expressed from its terroir.

This collection of Pinot represents those wineries that have truly conquered the challenge and produce some of the most beguiling wines in the world: supple, low in tannin, with delicate berry fruit on the palate.

The established superstars, such as Kistler, Peter Michael and Morlet are extremely difficult to obtain. Up-and-comers such as Wayfarer, Sea Smoke and Wan Fiore project are also producing truly world-class Pinot.

MBEF believes the inclusion of innovative learning techniques throughout K-12 curriculum is critical to developing our students into tomorrow’s leaders. The Teachers Driving Innovation (TDI) Grant Program was launched in 2015 to increase innovation in our classrooms, while also empowering and engaging our teachers. In just one year, the TDI grants have already had a tremendous impact on our students. This year’s Paddle Raise will focus on ensuring that our community will be able to fund TDI grants for years to come.

A core tenet of many successful and innovative programs is that they originate from the implementers—as concepts that rise from the ground are often more thoroughly embraced.

In the 2015/16 school year, we have already seen the significant impact that this program has had on our schools, our teachers, our students, and our community. Some projects launched this year include: Mira Costa Solar Boat Team; Teacher participation in the Professional Learning Communities, a program that has increased collaboration and impact in many districts throughout the country; Weather balloon launch into space, so that students could observe the curvature of the Earth and investigate the effects of minimal gravity, and materials and resources for the Middle School Robotics Club, helping the team to win a national Robotics competition, and so much more.

In total, MBEF funded 10 projects this year, touching more than 1,000 students throughout MBUSD. With your support, TDI Grants will be the cornerstone of future innovation for all students and teachers in our District.

Our Founding Sponsor Chevron is providing a signifi cant match to support this initiative, so please help us realize its full potential by raising your paddle tonight to support this endeavor.

Thank you for dreaming with us!

Rhone varietals like Syrah, Grenache and Mourvedre are grown around the world: France, California’s Central coast and Australia are some of the most notable regions. The resulting styles vary considerably even though they are made from the same types of grape. Cooler weather in Rhône allows for slower ripening and softer textures. Warmer climates of California and Australia tend to be more fruit forward. These bottles are true icons of Rhône-style wines.

‘Not bad for a kid from the sticks,’ proclaimed Jim Barrett of Chateau Montelena. May 24, 1976 changed the wine world forever. Wines from Napa and Sonoma beat their French counterparts in a blind tasting. French newspapers called results “laughable” and “not to be taken seriously.” You can decide for yourself with this broad selection of appellations and vintages from Napa and France. Celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the Judgement of Paris with your own showdown between Napa and Bordeaux.
