  • Jonathan TitzelHead Men’sSoccer Coach

    Jonathan Titzel begins his first year as head coach of the men’s soccer program. He grew up in western Pennsylvania playing on various club teams and for Greenville High School. After

    high school Jonathan received a soccer scholarship to play at DII Mercyhurst College, a top 25 team. Titzel stays active in the Bloomington-Normal soccer scene by refereeing and coaching. In addition to coaching local club teams, he has served as an assistant for the Illinois Wesleyan men’s team and has obtained the National USSF ‘D’ License. When not spending time with family and friends or reading, he enjoys golfing and doing triathlons. Titzel continues to play and has been a member of the winning teams for: Prairie State Games, Latin League, and Bloomington City League. He is a Project Manager for State Farm. Titzel and his wife Katie are expecting their first child later this year. He is excited for Heartland’s potential and looking forward to the opportunity of growing the Hawks’ soccer program.

    Tanner RutledgeAssistant Coach

    Tanner Rutledge grew up in Bloomington and attended Normal West high school, where he played soccer and baseball. Tanner played soccer for two years at Heartland CC and will be attending ISU this fall

    majoring in athletic training. He is looking forward to continuing his work at building the HCC soccer program, but this time as a coach!

    Bryce JohnsonGoalie Coach

    Bryce Johnson grew up in Bloomington-Normal and has had a love for soccer and goalkeeping since the age of eight. He played for several programs such as PCSL, BNSC, and the U18 Iron club team. He then played four years at Normal Community

    High School earning an honorable mention for the All-Conference Team his senior year. After high school Bryce went on to play at Aurora University for two years.

    Ryan KeefeAssistant Coach & Recruiting Coordinator

    Ryan Keefe is in his first season as an assistant coach for Heartland men’s soccer team. A native of the Chicago area, Keefe brings valuable expertise as a player and a coach to the program. Keefe focuses on the

    technical aspects of the game, and will assist with the goal keepers.

    During Keefe’s playing years, he was an Illinois State Champion at the high school level for New Trier High School (2006) and at the club level with F.C. United (2008). Keefe graduated from DePauw University where he led his team to a NCAC Conference Championship along with the first postseason berth for DePauw in twelve years. During his time at DePauw, his 2011 team set the school record in wins.

    As a coach, Keefe joins the program from Rockford University, where he was instrumental in leading a program from a difficult situation into prosperity. Keefe successfully recruited standout junior college players, and led the team to the first conference win in the history of program. Prior to Rockford University, Keefe coached at Oakton Community College.

    Keefe holds a USSF ‘C’ License and NSCAA Advanced National Diploma and is continuing his education towards his USSF B License. Coach Keefe has a master’s degree in teaching from Rockford University.
