welcome to our 45th season

“Anybody Home?” by Bob Wombacher

”Reflections On Grendel” by Michelle Sprick

Innsbrook is celebrating the 45th Anniversary of its founding this year. In many ways it has changed, and yet we have tried to keep it the same with our mutual appreciation of nature, the outdoors, and the beauty of our woods, lakes and countryside.

This is a big year with the opening of our uncommon “Charrette Creek Commons”, which includes features that many of you have been asking for. This is possible now that we have the critical mass of property owners needed to make this financially feasible. We hope you, your families, and your guests enjoy this new facility; it has been a long time coming and we believe it will have a very positive impact on property values.

In July 1971 when Warren Wobbe Sr. and I started this place, many of our current property owners were not in school yet and many more were yet to even be born.

Now we have some 4th generation owners, multiple generation owners and many families owning multiple residences and chalets, whose friends also are now owners....and their friends’ friends who are now owners. When we discuss our history here, and the tens of thousands of people who have come through our gates over the years, and all of the happiness that they have experienced here, it is more than a little overwhelming. In 1971, this reality would have been a fantasy....if we, even at that time, had known how Innsbrook would evolve like it has....and verbalized it....most people would have headed out the gate thinking… “These guys are nuts!”

CHAIRMAN’S COLUMN

Well it wouldn’t have happened if you had not taken a leap of faith and put down hard cash to purchase property here.

Thank you for your help in making our Innsbrook community successful!

Enjoy the season!

Ed Boyce

— MIA HAMM, OLYMPIAN

Greetings from Innsbrook! This year, Innsbrook will enjoy a season of celebrations. We began celebrating the dawn of our 45th anniversary with a wonderful display of fireworks at midnight as we rang in the New Year and we’ve been picking up speed ever since as Valentine’s and Easter celebrations saw record numbers of happy participants.

The coming Memorial Day weekend will have special meaning as we enter into a new era of celebration. Family and friends will once again gather over the course of the holiday for a myriad of events: concerts, races, regattas, tourneys and, of course, Saturday’s anchor event—the annual Innsbrook Anniversary party. We’re raising the bar this year by taking the party down the road to the beautiful new Charrette Creek Commons. I look forward to celebrating this important new amenity for our community with you all.

Speaking of the Commons, I would like to first thank the members of our community for the overwhelming support for this venture. What began as a simple solution to replace an aging pool soon morphed into an opportunity to create a new base of recreation for Innsbrook families and friends. We were able to combine historically successful events and add them to a long wish list of suggestions that we’ve received from so many of you over the years into an area that is designed for fun and function alike.

Of course the pool is what many of you have been missing most, and this new facility with its combination of lap lanes, lazy river and vortex will be a treat all summer long. The poolside Summerhaus will be a great way for families to relax and share a meal while lounging at the pool or listening to the concerts and for adults to enjoy a beverage or two. The playground will surely be a hit with its nature-based theme and camouflaged critter images for the young to explore and delight in year-round. The fitness equipment and workout spaces are ample and we’re looking forward to the new types of programs that we can now offer such as Zumba and yoga.

A NOTE FROM CHARLIE

I’ll admit, the pasture concerts served us well for all these years, but I believe we’ve been able to design a new concert venue with the same sense of intimacy in nature that we enjoyed so much about the Farmhouse, while providing improved parking, access, and lighting. And did I mention the 2016 concert lineup?

Join us as we celebrate the 19th Summer Breeze season with a solid mix of genres and acts of top talent from throughout the Midwest. Pop, bluegrass, rock, jazz, Motown, and more with a combo of returning favorites and new debuts.

If classical is more your style, David Halen, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra Concertmaster and Artistic Director of the Innsbrook Institute, once again delivers with a world-class lineup including the internationally renowned violinist Chee Yun and the Calidore String Quartet. With a whirlwind schedule of dozens of concerts over a period of nine days, this annual musical festival features a grand finale concert to be held at the Aspen Center on Saturday, June 18th.

Our Independence Day celebration is our season’s signature event and the greatest opportunity to surround yourselves with family and friends. To raise the bar for this year’s experience, we are improving the food and beverage in the Patron’s area, which is so vital to the fundraising for the firework display. New systems for guest authorizations for the day of the display will help streamline traffic and help reduce congestion at the gates.

This show would not be possible without the generous support of our community, and I thank each of you that contribute for your valued generosity.

From Memorial Day to Labor Day our community will enjoy a lineup of events, activities, camps, concerts, workshops, races, regattas, tournaments, shows, and parties that any major city would be thrilled to have in their portfolio. This would not be possible if not for the countless hours of dedicated IBK volunteers. We are all indebted to these acts of community service; please join me in thanking them when you see them.

These highlighted events are made special because they take place in the wonderful arena that we call Innsbrook. Yet, I encourage you to participate not only in these grand moments, but to celebrate the natural beauty that we have been blessed with. A quiet hike along a trail, a nap on the deck beneath a canopy of trees, or a lazy moment drifting on a lake will help refresh the soul and remind us of all the good in our lives.

Talk about great reasons to celebrate!

Have fun. Be a good neighbor. Feel free to contact us if you have a comment, question, or criticism.

Sincerely,

Charlie Boyce, President & CEO

Introduce your family and guests to the outdoor amphitheater at Charrette Creek Commons as we bring top acts from the Midwest music scene to the stage.

Cancellation policy for outdoor concerts: If the weather is deemed to be too wet or severe to hold the event, the event will be canceled. You can check Facebook, the Aspen Center Front Desk, and the security gates for updates on cancellations. The decision to cancel an event will not be made until 5 p.m. on the day of the event.

Groovethang May 29 Inaugurating the new outdoor stage at Charrette Creek Commons will be the rock-dance hits of this funky St. Louis band. The band is known for faithfully reproducing the music of such greats as Earth, Wind & Fire, KC and the Sunshine Band, Prince, and Steely Dan, to current hits from Katy Perry, Pit Bull, Daft Punk, and Maroon 5. With that kind of set list, this concert will be an all-ages family affair that you won’t want to miss on Memorial Day weekend!

The Breakfast Club June 25When neon retro attire, wild hair and spandex rolls through the Innsbrook gates, you know The Breakfast Club is back! Hailing from Chicago, this group is one of the top 80s bands in the Midwest. The Breakfast Club will keep you moving and shaking by performing creative medleys and your favorite 80s hits. This group is one of the highest-rated acts each time they come to Innsbrook! They always feed off the crowd’s high energy and they lead the pack when it comes to audience interaction!

Jesse Harris June 4Making his Innsbrook debut, Jesse Harris takes the stage on June 4 to delight property owners and their families and guests with his soulful acoustic originals, bluegrass, rock ‘n’ roll, Motown, and more. Jesse says that his songs resonate with strong emotions that deeply connect the audience and musically recount events of both tribulation and triumph.

singing ON A NEW STAGE

The band lineups get better and better each year and in this, the Summer Breeze concert series’ 19th season, Innsbrook property owners and their family and guests are in for a treat with a wide variety of family-friendly performances! As if the lure of a brand new concert facility, eatery and permanent restrooms wasn’t enough, we’ve booked performers that cover every genre and generation of music.

In addition to the great music, and new to the concert series this year by popular demand—we have golf cart-only parking. You can park your cart and head to the field or take in the show from the comfort of your ride! All concerts begin at 7:30 p.m. in the outdoor amphitheater at Charrette Creek Commons. Join us! Dr. Zhivegas July 1Innsbrook is thrilled to bring back not only one of St. Louis’ top bands, but one that performs across the country to enthusiastic crowds who never forget the experience! Midwest party rock dance band Dr. Zhivegas returns to Innsbrook to ring in our famous Independence Day celebration weekend. This band has been rockin’ and rollin’ together for more than 20 years and consider themselves a “hard dance band”, focusing on popular modern music and mashing it up with ‘80s classics.

Vote for Pedro July 30In the last week of July, perennial Innsbrook favorite Vote for Pedro returns to entertain. While some bands stick to one genre, Vote for Pedro covers the entire spectrum of popular music in a high-energy show. You can bring your lawn chairs, but you better bring your dancing shoes, too! You won’t be able to sit all the way through this concert before the music starts to move you.

FatPocket July 23High-energy band FatPocket takes the stage on July 23 to bring back the hits from the ‘60s through the ‘80s to the Top 40 chart toppers of today. With a set list ranging from Michael Jackson to Marvin Gaye, Rick James to James Brown, and Macklemore to Usher, FatPocket plays the hits from every era. This high energy party band features razor sharp rhythms, hot horns and powerhouse vocals.

Platinum Rock Legends July 16Prepare yourself for a one-of-a-kind, show-stopping and interactive show that engages crowds from the first song until the last. Performing as a variety of tribute bands, Platinum Rock Legends takes the road experience to the stage to recreate the sounds and likeness of the well-known artists people love like Def Leppard, Journey, Bon Jovi, Billy Idol and more.

Fabulous Motown Revue July 9When a group has been performing together for more than 25 years, you know you’re in for something special. Fabulous Motown Revue makes sure the dance party continues after the Fourth of July holiday winds down. The group is dedicated to recreating the Motown experience in both music and dance. Fabulous Motown Revue features many players who were actually “walkin’ the walk and talkin’ the talk” in the heart of the ‘60s Motown movement, which they say is the secret to their success!

Silver Bullet September 3The eight piece Bob Seger tribute band Silver Bullet will perform the Summer Breeze concert series finale on September 3. The members of several St. Louis-area bands came together to create Silver Bullet, who says that “from the ‘60s to the present day, the history of America has been written with the music of Bob Seger as the backdrop.” This concert will feature Seger favorites like “Travelin’ Man”, “Like a Rock”, and “Night Moves”.

Rogers & Nienhaus August 27As summer winds down, we welcome Rogers & Nienhaus to the Innsbrook stage for their first time. Rogers & Nienhaus have become St. Louis favorites, with their fiery performance and pristine harmonies. Don’t miss this opportunity to catch a truly great band as they transport you back to the heyday of the ‘60s and ‘70s! If you love the music of The Beatles, The Byrds, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Jimmy Page, and Neil Young, you will love Rogers & Nienhaus! Talented songwriters themselves, they have toured worldwide receiving rave reviews from Amsterdam to America.

My Friend Mike August 20My Friend Mike will be your friend, too, on August 20 as the band returns to the Summer Breeze stage for the second year in a row. This Top 40 band was named “Best Party Band” by St. Louis Magazine in 2015. In addition to today’s top hits, My Friend Mike performs soulful Motown classics, country, rock, and anything in between. The band of six talented musicians, including lead vocalist and keyboard player Mike Schlipp, performs crowd favorites like “Shout” plus modern hits like “Uptown Funk” and has played alongside greats like Jonny Rivers, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Chuck Berry.

Tommy Halloran’s Guerrilla Swing August 13Coming to Innsbrook on August 13 for the first time is Tommy Halloran’s Guerrilla Swing. Tommy’s music is a gumbo of jazz, blues, bossa nova, folk and rock ‘n’ roll. This band was voted “Best Jazz Band” in the Riverfront Times Music Awards in 2014 and 2015. The quartet plays America’s oldest form of popular music—jazz—while still somehow sounding completely relevant and approachable. When asked about his set lists, Tommy says, “I just play songs that I like. I grew up listening to vocalists like Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Chet Baker.”

Well Hungarians August 6Well Hungarians’ performances include great original music as well as country, rock, pop, Motown, and classic cover songs ranging from the Charlie Daniels Band to Ed Sheeran and Maroon 5. The vibrant, luxurious vocal harmonies of the Well Hungarians separates them from other music acts. Band members are seasoned, talented musicians and veteran performers, possessing experience gained by touring extensively with some of country music’s hottest national acts including Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson, and Keith Urban.

That being said, the offices of the Innsbrook Owners’ Association (IOA) Office Manager Karen Denson and IOA Activities Director Lindsay Prost that were in the Property Management Building are now located in the East Building at the amenity complex. Their office hours are listed below.

This means that when you have questions about or need to pick up car/boat/recreational stickers or phone directories, general inquiries, questions about registering for kids’ camps and summer workshops, building permits, tarp purchases, lost and found, and of course anything concerning the facilities at Charrette Creek Commons, you will need to see Karen and/or Lindsay at the new building.

Commemorative Bricks

Hundreds of property owners made the exciting decision to leave a lasting legacy of their love for Innsbrook by purchasing a commemorative brick, often engraved with the name of family, friends and loved ones who have called Innsbrook home, or their “home away from home.” These bricks will be laid in two designated areas at the Commons—one near the nature-inspired children’s playground and another near the Summerhaus.

Even if you didn’t get your brick purchased in time to be in place by the grand opening on Memorial Day weekend, you can still be a permanent part of Charrette Creek Commons by placing your brick order today! We will continue selling bricks until further notice, as the grounds of the area continue to be developed.

Find all the information and order your brick(s) online at innsbrook-resort.com/property-owners/bricks or call (636)928-3366 ext. 9180.

2016 INNSBROOK FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA

Our annual Independence Day Fireworks Show will light up the night sky on Saturday, July 2, 2016. Our show is fully funded by donations from IBK property owners, corporate vendors, and local advertisers. Last year, our fundraising campaign brought in over $110,000—making it the largest private fireworks display in the state! If you love the fireworks show as much as we do, be a part of the explosive evening by supporting the show with a donation. Whether it’s $25, $200 or $500—every dollar counts! All fireworks sponsors will be acknowledged in our special booklet that is handed out at the gates over the Fourth of July weekend.

Patron’s Party PackageOwners who donate $300 or more will get tickets to the Patron’s area with an All-American Buffet, drinks, reserved parking and a fantastic view. The All-American Buffet by the Picnic People will feature freshly grilled hamburgers, chicken and hot dogs; roasted corn-on-the-cob, baked beans, potato salad, watermelon, and more! Located on the hillside behind the condos, the Patron’s Area offers prime viewing for the fireworks show as the fireworks are choreographed to best be seen from that vantage point. Get ready for a fantastic show!Contact us today with your donation or to purchase a business ad in the annual fireworks booklet.(636)928-3366 ext. 9180 | [email protected]

Fireworks Guest Authorization—New for 2016!For this year’s show, you will need to pre-authorize all guests arriving for the fireworks display at innsbrook-resort.com/property-owners/ guest-registration. This pre-registration will allow for quicker entry for your guests arriving on the day of the show and also provide better security for Innsbrook.

Within 24 hours of your online registration, you will receive one email per guest’s vehicle with their unique entry ticket attached. If you register four guests (i.e. vehicles)—you will receive four unique emails. We recommend that you simply forward (via email) each ticket to the corresponding guests.

It’s important that each of your registered guests uses their unique ticket to enter Innsbrook, as the barcode printed on each pass may only be scanned once for entry. Additional instructions will also be printed on each ticket.

Note: All guests must be registered for the show by end of day, Thursday, June 30. This entry process is only to be used for guests that are arriving for the show on Saturday, July 2. Any guests that will be arriving or leaving on other days should follow the normal guest authorization process.

More information will be forthcoming in the Village Views and on the Innsbrook website.

We’ll have water and lemonade available, but you’re also welcome to bring coolers of whatever beverages or treats you enjoy! Bring along your blankets, lawn chairs, and pop-up tents for your family picnic (please see notes on next page regarding tents).

Party guests ages 21-and-over—bring your IDs and get your hand stamped if you plan to enjoy the complimentary beer truck or the margaritas that will be for sale.

In the spirit of the holiday weekend where we honor the brave men and women who serve(d) our country we will also be collecting donations for Patriot Packages. Please drop donations off at the registration area.

The IBK Anniversary Party is a must-attend event for property owners and their families. You’ll reunite with old friends and neighbors you haven’t seen in months or years, as well as make new acquaintances that may just become friends for life!

This year, we are requiring owners to pre-register for the Anniversary Party. Register online at innsbrook-resort.com/events/memorial-day-party. Keep an eye on the Village Views as the party nears for reminders about all the events taking place Memorial Day weekend at Innsbrook.

Party Registration Deadline: Wednesday, May 18

THE ANNIVERSARY PARTY: reigniting tradition in a new location

This year we’ll gather to celebrate 45 wonder-filled, magical, one-of-a-kind years at Innsbrook, surrounded by family, friends, and friends who might as well be family, at the new facilities at Charrette Creek Commons on May 28 from 2 to 5 p.m. Like those who were there for the early days at the Farmhouse, you’ll be able to say you were there at the first-ever Anniversary Party—and first-ever event—at the Commons.

Though the location will change, all the things you’ve always loved about the gathering will not.

Upon arrival, make a beeline to the registration area to get this year’s souvenir 45th Anniversary commemorative cup! What color will it be? That secret won’t be unveiled until the start of the party.

We’ll start the party with a bang with a live performance of the National Anthem, followed by the ceremonial blast off to a new season.

Kids will giggle with delight as they wear themselves out bouncing between the inflatable obstacle course and slide, bouncy houses, face painting, Camp Innsbrook tent and more. Another classic favorite (and great photo opportunity)—the colorful barrel train will be ready to take kids on an old-school adventure.

Snacks available at the party will include all-beef hot dogs, chocolate chip cookies, kettle chips, popcorn and refreshing sliced watermelon.

As we catapult our community into the next era, we do so with a tip of our cap to the past and a gleaming eye towards a bright future.

An Updated IBKTo be successful, you must stay true to what works, while at the same time be willing to change and grow. Innsbrook is proud to be part of a family tradition that passes from generation to generation. We are also proud to recognize when some components need to updated. We developed permanent residences when people wanted to live at Innsbrook year-round. We created a cottage community as an in-between option for those who were still commuting to the city. We built up our event program and amenities to answer the call for more

“organized fun” as the dynamics of the community changed.

Now we are unveiling a refreshed version of the Innsbrook logo, one that we feel best represents what the Innsbrook community is today.

We know the logo means a lot to our property owners—and now it can be even more meaningful, as it harkens back to our humble beginnings, while more strongly resonating with newer owners. This logo reflects the youthful exuberance that the natural playground we live in brings out in each of us. We hope you like it as much as we do!

New Car Sticker Technology— Making Life Easier for Owners! The new Innsbrook car stickers containing RFID technology should have arrived to your home by now, as they were mailed out in mid-April. If you haven’t received your stickers yet, call Karen at ext. 9180.

These new stickers will signal unmanned gates to open as your car approaches. The unmanned, property owner-only gate at the Main Entrance was the first to receive the new technology, with the West Gate next on the agenda. With those two more heavily trafficked gates online, Innsbrook is allowing some time for testing of the stickers in case there are any unanticipated issues.

When we are confident everything is working as it should be, the RFID stickers will be ready for use at the remaining unmanned gates in short order. Until that point, you may still use your existing key cards at the unmanned gates. We will notify you when the key cards will be turned off—please watch the Village Views for details.

Lastly, these stickers do not need to be replaced each year—only if you get a new vehicle or need to replace a windshield. Trying to remove the sticker will disable the RFID chip. You will need to contact us in the event you sell or trade in a vehicle so we can deactivate that car sticker.

New Signage Enhances Your Nature Trail ExperienceTake a walk on one of our seven scenic hiking trails and you will notice new and improved trailhead signs and trail markers. The signs display the trail length, accessibility, things to look for along the way, and an easy-to-read map depicting the trail route. And don’t forget—before you head out on a hiking expedition, stop by the owner information office at Charrette Creek Commons to pick up our helpful carry-along maps for each individual trail, or the Nature Trail Pocket Guide, which contains a map of each trail along with wildflowers, birds, and animal tracks to identify. You can also find each of these maps online at innsbrook-resort.com/recreation/nature-trails.

Don’t Let Your Boat Float Away for Good! All property owner boats at Innsbrook are required to have stickers. Many boats look the same, so if they become lost or wash away in heavy rain, there may be a challenge in reuniting them with their proper owner. These stickers do not expire, and (if you have one), your existing boat sticker is still valid. Each sticker is $5. Find the boat registration form online at innsbrook-resort.com/property-owners/forms.

No Drone ZoneThe sky over Innsbrook has been deemed a “No Drone Zone” by Innsbrook leadership, based on feedback and concerns from property owners. People come to Innsbrook for the ultimate private getaway and peacefulness. Though it may not be the pilot’s intent, some property owners feel as if their private piece of paradise has been violated if a drone is suddenly whirring overhead. Please contact Innsbrook Security at ext. 9400 if you spot a drone over your property.

The New Hottest Spot to Shop The Aspen Boutique (formerly known as the Gift Shop, just inside the front doors of the Aspen Center) has been fully revamped and replenished! You will now be able to find custom Innsbrook items for adults and children year-round. Get prepared for relaxing days by the new pool or out on one of the many beaches by purchasing some of the hottest new items! Beach towels and bags, tumblers, bottle and can koozies, and beach spiker cup holders are also now available at your fingertips. If you regularly attend the Summer Breeze concerts, our reversible waterproof blankets and folding chairs are perfect for you! You can also custom order large quantities of certain items for special events such as family reunions, golf outings, corporate retreats, etc. Merchandise will be updated often so be sure to make frequent visits throughout the year!

The Quaint Country MarketInnsbrook’s charming Country Market will get a facelift this year. New paint, shelving, products, and retro décor will soon be unveiled. The market will open on Friday, May 27 and remain open through Labor Day weekend.

One Hail of a StormOn April 7, 2015—you may remember it as the day you decided to get a new roof—a wide swath of Innsbrook was rocked by a massive hailstorm that pelted the community with golf ball-sized hail. In addition to the condos, Property Management Building, and Corporation-owned facilities that required repair work after the storm, Innsbrook Owners’ Association General Manager Rick Schmitt has issued around 500 building permits to Innsbrook property owners and their contractors, most of which relate to repair or replacement of roofs, decks, and other hail-damaged entities! Let’s hope we don’t see a storm like that again anytime soon!

We Take Speeding SeriouslyPeople come to Innsbrook to enjoy the serenity of a quiet walk—solitarily, with their loved ones, or alongside their four-legged friends.

Our windy, twisty roads and frequent hills make it imperative for everyone operating a motor vehicle or recreational vehicle to adhere to the 23 mph speed limit (on paved roads) and 17½ mph speed limit (on gravel roads). We have signs denoting the speed limit throughout the development. In addition, we ask that you please make the speed limit clear to all contractors and guests that you authorize to be on property.

There has been an increase in the frequency of complaints we receive about speeding. Please respect and care for your fellow humans and the wildlife and obey the speed limits.

Do Your Part to Keep Innsbrook BeautifulWe at Innsbrook enjoy beautiful hiking trails, horse trails, lakes, beaches, and outdoor concerts under the stars. Let’s continue to foster an environment that is clean and in harmony with nature for all property owners and visitors to enjoy for many years to come. PLEASE do your part and don’t litter. Encourage your kids and guests likewise, and help maintain the natural beauty of Innsbrook. Thank you in advance for doing your part to make Innsbrook a place we and our visitors see as an awesome paradise to live among nature!

Please Note Phone System ChangesWhen calling the main Innsbrook number at (636)745-3000 or (636)928-3366, please note that all Innsbrook phone extensions are now four digit numbers that begin with a 9. The last 3 digits of the extension will be the same for each party as before. So, if you are trying to reach security, dial 9400, instead of 400 as you would have previously. Use this same formula with all extensions.

Innsbrook Returns to HGTV in 2016Innsbrook will once again be featured on the HGTV show

“Lakefront Bargain Hunt” this year. Some of our newest property owners—Mike and Jen Vitucci, of Wildwood, Mo.

—and their family work with Innsbrook real estate agent Dan Dieckmann to find their dream vacation property. HGTV also approached us to film a second episode for this show, which will feature Greg and Tarah Hampton and Tim and Lisa Viviano, all of Godfrey, Ill., two families sharing a chalet on beautiful Teal Lake. No word on when the episodes will air, but watch for that news in the Village Views and on our Facebook page.

Innsbrook is Now a Smoke-Free Campus In our continued effort to support the healthy lifestyle our property owners strive for, Innsbrook became a smoke-free campus in 2016. The no-smoking rules apply to all areas of the Clubhouse Bar & Grille, golf course, Aspen Center, and Charrette Creek Commons buildings and concert field.

Notes from Security• Always dial 911 first in an emergency. After that, if you

have the chance, you may call Security at the Main Gate at ext. 9400 to make them aware of the situation. Upon arrival, Innsbrook Security will lead first responders to the location of the emergency.

• Check and/or replace all fire extinguishers – they do have a lifespan. Some have an expiration date, some do not. To be safe – if you don’t remember when you purchased it, replace it. There should be at least one fire extinguisher on each level of the home.

• Replace all the batteries in each smoke detector every spring or summer.

• If you see anything that you find suspicious around Innsbrook, please report it immediately to Security at ext. 9400.

• We have fully operational video cameras at the trash recycling depots. If you deposit anything besides household trash and recycling, you will receive a bill.

The 2015 golf season may have started off very rainy, but it turned out to be a great year for golf at Innsbrook! Between massive amounts of rain and hail storms, the entire golf operation was challenged many times throughout the year. The curveballs Mother Nature threw our way may have slowed down the improvements, but certainly did not stop them! With a noticeable increase in weekend play, projects completed by the golf course maintenance staff, and the re-opening of the renovated Clubhouse Bar & Grille, it was a busy season at the golf course.

The winter leading up to last season was a noisy and dusty one around the Clubhouse as work kicked into full swing to get the new Pro Shop open as well as the renovated Bar & Grille, patio, and deck. All of these improvements turned out incredible! All summer long, many people who came to the Clubhouse—property owners and guests alike—remarked that they did not recognize the building with all the changes and improvements.

That sentiment carried over to the golf course as well. In late May/early June we started a project to fix the persistent drainage problem with the upper part of what was then #9 fairway. This is now the current #18 fairway as the front and back nines were flipped in August 2015 to provide a view down the finishing hole from the new deck. Once that drainage project was complete the positive results were almost instantaneous. Coming next: new cart paths along the 1st and 5th holes.

Thanks to the popularity of the new Under Armour apparel, the Pro Shop staff have stayed busy, too! Hats, golf shirts, t-shirts, and pullovers from both Under Armour and Nike have flown off the shelves. This new merchandise selection has proven to appeal to golfers and non-golfers alike. One thing we learned this past year is that you have to check in regularly for new merchandise as it does not last long!

Innsbrook’s numerous nature trails continue to soar in popularity. After releasing updated maps and a pocket guide in 2015, many owners and their families were ready to hit the trail for the first time! Out of all of our unique and diverse trails, the newest is the Tyrolean, which opened for exploration in 2012. The trail is part of one of Innsbrook’s newest recreational areas to explore—the Alpine and Tyrolean Valleys south of the Alpine Lake dam.

With the Innsbrook Historical Society’s dedicated work on the rehabilitation of the historic Log Cabin and surrounding buildings, the Log Cabin area in Alpine Valley is a must-see for Innsbrook families and their guests. The Tyrolean trailhead is nearby, taking walkers on a path that winds along Charrette Creek and past flowing waterfalls.

Innsbrook is currently developing an extension to the Tyrolean Trail that will be ready to traverse later this year. The extension will begin south of the historic Log Cabin, traveling through Innsbrook’s southern expansion areas, past a seasonal waterfall, along tree lines, and through fields. The winding path will also take travelers across a spillway to Innsbrook’s newest lake—Tyrol—and along the bluffs overlooking Charrette Creek, before heading towards Charrette Creek Commons.

Innsbrook boasts a lush landscape with all-season beauty. If you’ve hiked a trail once and think you’ve seen it all—think again! Our trails offer something different in spring, summer, fall, and winter—and something different in morning, afternoon, and evening! With our diverse flora and fauna, you’re almost guaranteed to have a new, exciting experience or sighting every time your boots hit the trail.

With the addition of guided hikes to our calendar of events, more people than ever are venturing off of their lots to explore the woods, fields, and streams of Innsbrook. There is no better place to view an abundance of wildflowers, see birds of all varieties, and feel as if you’re a part of nature, than along one of Innsbrook’s nature trails.

So this year at Innsbrook, get ready, grab your camera, and go on a new adventure!

With more than 100 unique bodies of water at Innsbrook stocked with bluegill, catfish, smallmouth bass, and crappie, fishing tales are plentiful and diverse around cabin campfires.

We can’t claim that the fishing fascination at Innsbrook is a new one, as the activity has been a favorite pastime of property owners since the beginning. It’s delightful to see the hobby passed down through the generations. As evidenced by our Spring Fishing Tournament in 2016, which had more than 50 participants—the love for fishing continues to have a stronghold on Innsbrook’ers of all ages!

There are many “levels” of anglers here—some are perfectly content to cast a line and wait it out on the pontoon or shoreline while enjoying the general relaxation and camaraderie of the day. Some customize the bait depending on what they hope to catch, and some even take great steps to make their shoreline attractive to our finned friends.

One of the recent fishing tournament competitors is property owner Tom Duchild, who we asked about tips, tricks, and memories. On the biggest fish he can remember reeling in:

“Way back in the 1991 Innsbrook Fishing Tournament I got lucky and caught a 9 lb. bass from Lake Wanderfern. I’m likely never going to top that one, but the memories and stories from that day will stay with me forever!”

Tom is an experienced fisherman, but he has some advice for newbies as well.

“Get a light to medium basic rod/reel combo at a sporting goods store, some basic tackle (bobber, sinkers, small gold hooks) and worms. If you can, fish early or later in the day for the best action.”

Fishing Tips

If you’re looking to hook more action at your lot, there are some simple things you can do to make it fish-friendly.

Removing brush from your property? Toss tree branches into the lake near your shoreline and the fish will flock. Tree branches, cedar trees, and old Christmas trees (the once-live ones, of course) all make great fish cover. Be sure to secure them to a heavy weight before tossing them in so they sink in place. You’ll want to place them in 6-12 feet of water to be effective.

Here are some additional tips from our Lakes & Fishing Manager and resident authority on fish populations Jeff Yegge: • Clear water bass rely upon their sight for feeding

and will often roam farther from cover to take a lure. Effective baits must match the natural environment, which is why smaller, soft-plastic lures in smoke, green, and brown colors generally work well.

• Want to lure in a catfish? Use prepared baits, nightcrawlers, and hot dogs. Fish for them in deep water and at night. If you can find water flowing into the lake, try dropping a line there.

• It’s always fun to fish for bluegill and crappie—they are feisty fighters. Use small jigs, minnows, and worms, and fish for them around woody cover.

• Remember to relax and have fun!

Please keep in mind the following fishing regulations: Alpine Lake has a protected slot length limit on bass of 12”-18” which means you can keep bass under 12” or over 18” with a daily limit of five. For all other lakes, release bass between 12”-16”. Crappie 10" or longer and bluegill and catfish of any size can be kept (including Alpine) with a daily limit of 10 crappie per day. Please release all paddlefish caught.
