2016 Recycling Rates Instuonal Diversion Rate (includes construcon and demolion debris): 83.54% Individual Recycle Rate (Maryland Recovery Act (MRA) materials) 50.55% Maryland Football: The average diversion rate for the 2016 football season was 66.90%, up from 64.76% in 2015 and 39.14% in 2014. The season high diversion rate was 75.79%. FM Ice Cream Social and A&F Employee Appreciaon events achieved record high diversion rates and waste sort parcipaon from campus staff (picture on right). Student Events: With the assistance of Special Services, we provided compost collecon at several student cen- tered events such as the Graduate School Welcome in the fall. Zero Waste Events There was a 70% increase in food scraps collected on campus from 2015. Compost collecons within Residence Halls expanded from two buildings in 2015 to 11 buildings in 2016. Compost collecon also expanded to every on campus fraternity and sorority house. University Markeng and Communicaons promoted the campus compost collecon program through their #UMDinspires campaign. Annual Campus Events

RecycleMania

Hosted two shredding and e-waste collection events. Shredded 7.73 tons of sensitive

documents and collected 3.32 tons of electronics for recycling.

Third Annual Recycle This! video contest received 23 video submissions. $500 of

Terrapin Express points were awarded to Grand Prize winner.

Provided outreach at a UMD basketball game. The 2015 winning video was shown at

halftime. Fans showed support of the recycling program by participating in a Recycling

Photo Booth (picture on right).

Denton Green Fest: Promoted Terps Recycle with recycling trivia prize wheel

at 3rd annual Green Fest.

SGA Earth Day Celebration: Terps Recycle collaborated with the SGA on this

event. All the submitted videos from the Recycle This! Video Contest were

shown and the winning video was announced (picture on left).

Maryland Day : Provided waste separation stations (picture on right)

with compost collection throughout McKeldin Mall. Obtained peer

educators to help campus visitors sort their waste.

Trash to Treasure: Supported the Department of Resident Life in annual

move-out collect efforts. Approximately 8.1 tons of material was donated to

Good Will, 6.77 tons of carpet and foam was recycled, as well as four gaylords

of electronics and more than 40 refrigerators.

Staff Enrichment Jessica Moore: In 2016, Jessica became certified as a Manager of Landfill Operations through the Solid Waste Associa-

tion of North America (SWANA) and renewed her certification in Integrated Solid Waste Management. Jessica now

holds five certifications through SWANA and is an accredited teacher of these courses.

Adrienne Small: In 2016, Adrienne became certified as a LEED Green Associate through the U.S. Green Building

Council.

Dexter Brown and Michael Minor: Joined the Recycling team to support recycling collections.
