  • Welcome to the 23rd season of The Choir School at St. Peter’s.

In the summer of 2015, The MasterSingers travelled to England to serve as choir in residence at Salisbury Cathedral and the Tour Choirs explored eastern North Carolina, singing concerts and interacting with new audiences along the way. These experiences of being out in the world are important because they connect us to our heritage and inspire our sense of purpose. Our fi rst performance this year, Noye’s Fludde, a children’s opera by the British composer, Benjamin Britten was a grand homecoming after the summer’s adventures, giving us a chance to collaborate with Opera Carolina, Central Piedmont Community College and The Charlotte Youth Symphony and affi rming our place in Charlotte’s artistic community.

Our Christmas and Spring concerts draw on this freshly affi rmed identity, combining beautiful classical and adventurous contemporary repertoire. The foundation we have built through the hard work we do at home, week by week, keeps us grounded in who we are and creates the possibility for who we will become.

Thank you for supporting The Choir School at St. Peter’s, and we hope that you enjoy the music!

ABOUT OUR PROGRAMNow in our 23rd season, The Choir School at St. Peter’s is a rigorous choral music education program that serves approximately 100 talented young musicians each year. Our choristers work to master music theory, sight singing, musical style, and expression - as well as teamwork, confi dence, and independence. Each season includes summer camp, weekly rehearsal and theory instruction, performance, and tour. These experiences immerse our students in practices and disciplines that lead to true musicianship, and give them the opportunity to form relationships, develop lifelong skills, and step outside what is familiar to see what is possible.

THE TOWN CHOIRS are training choirs where boys and girls who enjoy singing begin to develop music and vocal skills. Town Choir students work together to rehearse, study, and practice performance technique as they begin to create one voice from many voices.

In the TOUR CHOIRS, older students begin to master advanced vocal skills, music theory, and performance. They study traditional, sacred, and contemporary music and learn to achieve excellence as they practice, prepare, and perform together.

THE MASTERSINGERS are a mixed-voice ensemble made up of talented teenagers from across the region. Each season, they master a broad repertoire, studying advanced vocal and sight singing skills and expanding their knowledge of music history.
