Thai design industry against Asian and Global consumer's trends The global economy sees forth very slow growth at present, the design industry is still nding its path with a new paradigm shift. The year of the monkey is leading Asia to a new core context. Innovative technologies will shape a new scenario of urban living while tourism leads global travelers to the new dimension of thoughts. Food balances health and stress as it is most aordable for the time being. Foodies growth becomes more developed and design relies on the passions of the locals and global travelers who are seeking new ventures. Creativities rely on social IT network. Personal preferences of taste will be eected on IT media inuences and will play an important role in compulsive online buying.  For Thailand, the country's income derives from agriculture. The economy evolves via food exports while positioning Thailand as kitchen of the world who oers varieties of the best creative gastronomical products. Meanwhile, wastes from food production has oered more opportunities for local designers to create ranges of products that are environmentally friendly.  From Crops to Props, a new Thai design, evolves with the local context of agricultural ecology. A new design generation is rising up and gaining more attraction among global consumers whilst Thai design roots are heading towards global practicalities.

Institute of Design and Innovation PromotionThe Thailand Institute of Design and Innovation Promotion was established in 1991(originally called the Design Service Center), under the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), Ministry of Commerce. The Institute was given the task of undertaking the government’s policy of creating value for Thai export products so as to better compete in the ever changing global market. The government’s strategy of introducing design and creativity in product development in the Thai export industry was to strengthen its foundation and its capabilities in maintaining and expanding its global market share, as exports contributed to over half of all foreign revenue into Thailand.

The initial phase of work focused on building awareness and recognition of value creation through design and creativity, as well as incorporating brand building strategies. This proved quite challenging as Thailand was predominantly a production base or OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturing). It was relying heavily on competitive labor and production costs as well as its reputation on high quality manufacturing. Thus the need for research & development, design and designer was still very low. However, as Thailand entered a new era of global trade competition, with the emergence of regional manufacturing competitors coupled with the 1997 economic crisis, as well as an ever demanding consumer market, many within the industry have had to re-think their trade strategies. Value creation was thus given a greater role in raising the competitiveness of Thai products and services to the international market. Thus, the Institute’s work in the support and promotion of value creation is of paramount importance to the Thai export industry. Many projects undertaken have resulted in the development of over 400 professional Thai designers and designer brands. Many Thai SMEs now employ these designers both freelance and in-house. Many designers have successfully become entrepreneurs with their own design brands and have started to look toward the international market, The Talent Thai Project, for example was rst launched in 2004 as an initiative to intro-duce young Thai lifestyle product designers to the international trade arena. It is aimed at giving an opportunity to talented designers, elevating the designs of furniture, home decorative items, jewelry and gifts, and therefore improving the potential of Thai lifestyle industry as a whole. Former participants of Talent Thai have become role models for the next generation designers. By adding value to the products through design and branding. Another very important initiate of the Institute is the establishment of Thailand’s Design Excellence Award or DEmark in 2008, which is a symbol of Thai design excellence. It is used to promote Thai designed product to the international market.

Recently, the Institute has expanded its area of work to include brand promotion and commercialization of new Thai innovations particularly with eco-friendly and food products. The Thailand Innovation and Design Expo (TIDE) was thus launched in 2013 to showcase Thailand’s potential in this area.

The Thailand Institute of Design and Innovation Promotion continues to have a vital role in maintaining Thailand’s competitiveness in the global trade arena, and continues its mission of establishing Thailand as one of the world leaders in the area of design and creativity, as well as raising the image of Thailand as a ‘trusted’ source of the highest quality products and services Through its Thailand Trust Mark project. The Mark is a assurance of quality Thai products and services with special focus on standards of Social Corporate Responsibility and environmental concerns.

Inspired by simplicity of nature, Labrador products are elaborately craft-made under the concept of “Truth to materials”. To expose the senses of real feeling, touching, and look; we believe that the nature of materials should not be hidden.

The materials used are particularly selected, the full grain aniline leather at its best quality, which enable us to maximize the use of the materials and cause less waste. The materials’ premium quality reects on its durability and beautifully aged.

Labrador, we love creating. The design begins with the way we look at the environment and life balancing. This identity makes our design bold yet simple, natural however unique. We wish the design of Labrador product somehow implied that life should be simple.
