This is the Asahi Kasei Group’s unchanging reason for being. What we never cease to strive for, though the needs of society change throughout the ages. It is in our very nature, deriving from a sincere regard for the people of the world.

Asahi Kasei Mitsubishi Chemical Ethylene Corp.

starts shared operation of naphtha cracker facilities

With a powerful disinfection effect, UVC (the shorter wavelength

range of ultraviolet light) is expected to play a growing role in

protecting health by preventing infections in hospitals, and by

disinfecting air in vacuum cleaners and air conditioners. In 2011,

Asahi Kasei acquired Crystal IS, Inc., a US company with technology

for aluminum nitride (AlN) substrates for light-emitting diodes (LEDs)

that emit UVC light. The two companies jointly developed UVC LEDs,

and in 2014 Asahi Kasei began mass production at a plant in Fuji,

Japan. In May 2016, we launched the sale of Klaran™ high-output

UVC LEDs for disinfection. Applications are being developed in a

wide range of fields utilizing the Asahi Kasei Group's broad market

connections in the housing, medical device, and electronics industries.

The AKXY™ concept car

Commercialization of UVC LEDs

In May 2017, Asahi Kasei unveiled AKXY™ as a drivable concept car

that draws on our comprehensive strength. AKXY™ includes 27 of

our materials, components, and systems, including driver sensing

technology to support safety, fibers and communication systems to

create confortable interior space, and performance resins that

reduce the environmental burden. The name AKXY™ comes from

Asahi Kasei X (multiplied by) You (the customer), indicating our

intention to create new value for the future together with the

automotive industry. Under our Cs for Tomorrow 2018 medium-term

management initiative launched in 2016, the automotive-related area

is positioned as an important field for business expansion, including

through the establishment of a marketing organization that spans

across business units and a new regional headquarters in Europe.
