Dayton ASHRAE is ready for a great year! Our first event in September will be in direct support of the Dayton ASHRAE Scholarship Fund. Please come on out and support us at the 3rd Annual ASHRAE Scholarship Bocce Tournament at John Pirelli Lodge in Kettering. There will be food and drink provided and the bocce courts are right next to a playground so feel free to bring your fami-ly. Cost is $100 per team and all proceeds and donations for this event go direct-ly to our 2017-2018 Dayton ASHRAE Scholarship. Contact me if you would like to sign up. Dayton ASHRAE will also be sponsoring a booth at the upcoming Dayton Green Expo. Our focus this year is membership promotion! We will be offering a lo-cal dues discount for everyone that visits our booth and signs up for a local Day-ton ASHRAE Membership. Also, contact me if you would like to get involved with Dayton ASHRAE. We have an opening for a Grass Roots Chair and committee and are always looking for support for our other committee chairs.

Job Shadow Day Wednesday September 13th
Each year, the 9th grade class partakes in an exciting career exploration experience - Job Shadow Day.
On Wednesday September 13th, 2017, every student will be paired
with a mentor and spend a full day in the real world. Students get glimpses of possible career paths and future em-
ployers. Mentors get to spotlight their organization with the future work-
force. Many students even head back to their mentors
to complete their internships required for graduation. This is a fantastic opportunity for both the students and the
mentors!
Interested in hosting students for Job Shadow Day on September 13th?

ASHRAE Summer WISE Intern Completes Her Studies
Madalyn Beban, rising senior at the University of Dayton majoring in Mechanical Engineering, has served as the ASHRAE Summer Washington Internship for Students of Engineering (WISE) Intern for 2017. Each participant selects a topic for research and writes a paper which is then presented at the end of the nine-week internship. This year, Ms. Beban's paper was entitled Out of Site, Out of Mind: An Assessment of State-Level Siting Policies for Wind Power Generation Plants." Her project analyzes the role of state-level wind farm siting regulation in the development of the U.S. wind energy industry and explores the best practices for balancing interests of land-owners, community members, wind energy companies and additional relevant stakeholders. In addition to the paper, students in the WISE Program discover how government officials make decisions on complex technological issues while, at the same time, learning how engineers and scientists can contribute to the legislative process and regulatory decision-making. In addition to the research, students are given access to and tours at the US Library of Congress, the Depart-ment of Energy, EPA, NIST and other federal government and not-for-profit agencies. ASHRAE has participated in the WISE program for over two decades, with the first ASHRAE WISE Intern having been current Society President-Elect Sheila Hayter. If you wish to apply to be ASHRAE's 2018 WISE Intern, click here to learn more.
