NEBRASKA NURSES ASSOCIATION LEGISLATIVE PLATFORM
Underlying Beliefs
For long over a decade, the public has recognized Nursing as the most trusted and ethical profession in the United States (Cipriano, 2015) . This represents both the strong solidarity and responsibility the profession carries . Therefore, it is imperative that nurses across healthcare, serve as formal and informal leaders .
Nurses have a responsibility to educate the public and legislators on issues that impact the health of Nebraskans and our communities . The Nurses Association views the call to educate and communicate as a priority .
Nurses are the largest healthcare sector in the United States, and a profession that contributes to the science, advocacy, health, and well-being of Nebraskans and our communities;
As Nebraska nurses, we believe that all individuals have a right to basic healthcare; and, therefore, we support legislation that promotes equal access to healthcare for all individuals;
As Nebraska nurses, we believe that preventative measures can result in a better quality of life and reduce the lifetime costs of healthcare . We support legislation that promotes prevention and wellness-related activities and services;
As Nebraska nurses, we are professionals; and, as such, we are responsible for maintaining competency and practice standards that are current through the utilization of evidenced-based principles .
Based on the above underlying beliefs, the NNA adopts the Following Legislative Platform:
1 . NNA will strongly support the essential role that Registered Nurses play in care delivery in all settings . NNA will actively pursue any legislation that advocates for the well-being of the nurse to ensure:
a . Safe work environments; b . Adequate training and ongoing competence; c . Fair and transparent licensing; d . Clear and well-defined scope of practice, maintaining educational preparations and
scientific knowledge which are unique to nursing; e . Removal of barriers that negatively impact nursing’s scope of practice, for both RNs and
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs);f . Economic stability and improved compensation for nurses . g . Coordination of care; andh . Participation in decision making that involves other groups providing nursing care .

2017 Nebraska Nurses Association
President’s ReportAnna Mackevicius BSN, RN, PMP
I have been in office for one year; the time has flown by quickly . Admittedly, I needed to adjust to the additional duties of the office; there are times when this role was more like a full time job than my full time job! It is rewarding however; I find that this role is fulfilling in ways I did not imagine .
The President’s Report is less about what I have done but rather what your Board of Directors and other dedicated volunteers of the Nebraska Nurses Association have accomplished and continue to achieve .
NNA BOD AccomplishmentsThe Board of Directors has met monthly with a quorum for all but one meeting . I am grateful for the dedication from each member; the Board is a flexible group that is transparent and discusses issues in a professional manner . I have served on other boards that did not behave in such a manner and were dysfunctional and non-productive . The NNA BOD is a polar opposite . “Thank you” does not come close enough .
Given the governance changes the Association made in the past few years, the change and loss of an association management firm, and that each of our standing Committees elected a new chair this year, it was paramount that we record our policies, procedures, and processes . State Director Melissa Florell and I created a draft manual from previous NNA manuals, input from previous Committee Chairs, and borrowed (with permission) language from the Midwest Multistate Division (MW MSD) Manual . The draft NNA Policies and Procedures Manual is under review by the BOD and targeted to be approved by the end of the year . Although this Manual addresses the operations side of the Association, it is an important document for the continuity of our activities .
About 2 years ago, NNA redesigned the structure of standing committees . Now that our Committee Chairs have about a year of experience, each committee needs to be evaluated to see if the committee’s purpose, goals, and membership structure is meeting the needs of the Association (i .e ., members) . Proposed changes may involve Bylaws updates, of course, but that is part of the process .
ANA MEETINGSIn November 2016, the International Nursing Alliance held its Summit in Omaha . NNA took full advantage of having Pam Cipriano, ANA President, Marla Weston, ANA CEO, and Debbie Hatmaker, ANA Executive Director in Omaha . A small group of the Board – Terry Anderson, Lina Bostwick, and Melissa Florell – organized a Town Hall meeting . Questions were developed and invitations were sent to Omaha area NNA members to attend . It was a wonderful and informative event that allowed members to meet ANA leadership on a personal level . Dr . Cipriano mentioned that this event would be a model for other ANA Town Hall meetings when future opportunities present .
This year I attended two ANA meetings in the Washington DC area, the Leadership Summit and the Annual Meeting . I found both meetings informative . The Leadership Summit was a great venue to share ideas, successes, failures, and next steps taken by C/SNAs on a variety of topics including membership recruitment, retention, and engagement . NNA shared as much as we gained insight . I look forward to this year’s Summit .

The ANA Annual Meeting was historic . Significant Bylaws changes were approved by the body . I would like to write more about these changes; I am waiting for ANA to give the “all clear” signal . Hopefully by the time of our Annual Membership Meeting, I can elaborate . From my perspective, this year’s meeting was, in some parts, time for the larger states to re-exert influence . This was mainly apparent with the vote regarding the Annual Meeting format . Many of the larger states wanted to return to a House of Delegates or increase the number of voting representatives at the Annual Meeting . After a vote failed to ratify the 2 representatives per C/SNA format for the Annual Meeting, the body approved a conservative compromise that increases the number of the participants to 200 . The financial impact of this change will, no doubt, result in an increase in cost sharing by the C/SNAs for the Annual Meeting . We will anticipate this as best as we can during the 2018 budget process . Interface with the MSDNNA continues to reap rewards from participation in the MW MSD, specifically its support of back office operations . I have participated in all of the MW MSD BOD meetings as one of two NNA representatives . Dr . Terry Anderson is NNA’s primary representative . A retreat is planned for late August . On the agenda is a discussion to collaboratively create “member centric” organizations; this topic was discussed at a lunchtime breakout session during the ANA Membership Assembly and provided a new paradigm for membership organizations . .
Membership Engagement NNA completed a trip through Nebraska during National Nurses Week . The 2017 tour made stops in Columbus, Lexington, North Platte, Scottsbluff, Ainsworth, and Omaha . Joining NNA’s State Director were representatives from the Nebraska Action Coalition; the group presented “Healthy Nurse, Health Community,” a one hour continuing education offering . The tour was well received; we hope to gain new members . Our trek across Nebraska, which on my limited investigation appears to be a uniquely Nebraska activity, is on the schedule for next year . Additional Nurses’ Week Activities were hosted by the Omaha Metro and Lincoln Area Mutual Interest Groups . The Positive Image of Nursing Breakfast honored the dedication and professional practice of nurses . The Lincoln Celebrate Nursing dinner enjoyed record attendance, and followed the theme of Healthy Nurses .
The Association was “on display” at several conferences this year; a table was staffed by Melissa Florell and several volunteers throughout the year including the 2016 NAC Fall Leadership Conference, Nebraska Medicine’s State of the Art Conference, 2017 Nebraska Health Information Initiatve Annual Meeting, NSSNA Annual Conference, to name a few .
Student EngagementThere is a lot happening on this front . Melissa Florell presented at UNMC – Kearney’s commencement . Members Douglass Haas and Jenna Witt presented the benefits of NNA membership at the Annual Nebraska State Student Nursing Association (NSSNA) in February . I have presented at two classes at Nebraska Methodist College; Terry Anderson and I have presented at Nebraska Medicine’s Nurse Residency Program .
There are many ways to increase engagement and NNA visibility, such as locally hosted continuing education, social events, etc . NNA has vehicles to use – the Mutual Interest Group structure, Healthy Nurse-Healthy Nation campaign - to name a few .

The goal is, of course, to increase membership . I specifically want to see an increase in NNA membership of direct care RNs . We do not have enough direct care RNs represented in NNA and, as a result, we are not as strong as we could be . The value pricing pilot has been slow to get out of the gate; there is more that the Association can do to have this initiative gain momentum . Our numbers are increasing but it is hard at this time to know if that is the result of the pilot or the engagement activities . Melissa has made specific recommendations to ANA regarding the marketing support needed to realize the benefits of the pilot .
My goals for next year include:• Developamarketingplacespecifictothevaluepricingpilot.• Conductanevaluationofourstandingcommitteestructureandresponsibilities• IdentifyandplanstrategicappearancesatimportanteventsthatRNsandstudentattend• HelpinfluenceanotherstatetojointheMSD• DecreasethefrequencyoftheNNABODmeetingsto8-10/year• Hostatleastonecollaborativenursingassociationeventin2018
Vice President’s Report:Lina Bostwick, EdD, RN, CNE
As this year concludes, so will my two-year term as VP for NNA . It has been an honor to serve and promote the work and events of NNA through a variety of means while collaborating with both internal and external stakeholders . As a team, the Board of Directors, NNA’s Director, and the membership bring many opportunities for education, networking, and professional advocacy to the state of Nebraska .
Some of my most gratifying involvement was to organize a Town Hall, November 17th, 2016 with ANA leader’s Pamela Cipriano, Debbie Hatmaker, and Marla Weston . Other, extremely important, event work has included Nurses Day at the Legislature and Annual Conference . I had the amazing opportunity to get to know and better understand the legislative work of Senator Brett Lindstrom, Jacki Steckelberg, RN, and Pam McNally, RN in their work to better protect whistleblowers in this state . Together, they shared their advocacy experience at last year’s Annual Conference .
The Board of Directors supported my application to serve on the Nebraska Center for Nursing Board and thus I was appointed a 3-year term by Governor Pete Ricketts . As of May, 2017, I accepted the appointment of Chair for the Nebraska Center for Nursing Foundation .
Last, but not least, I am excited about the growth of our Mutual Interest Groups across the state . These nurse leaders, with the support of NNA, work diligently to uphold the organizations mission, vision, and core priorities of: collaboration, advocacy, recognition, and education .
Respectfully submitted,Lina Bostwick, EdD, RN, CNE

Mutual Interest Groups Oversight Committee (MIGOC)
Mutual Interest Groups are NNA nurses who are organized based on shared nursing practice interests and/or geographical boundaries .
January, 2017 brought with it, five MIGs: Omaha Metro Area; Lincoln Area Research and Advocacy; Region I; Rural; and Tri City . The Omaha, Lincoln, and Region I MIGSs are on track for meeting their established goals . MIG actions have included: social functions, student/faculty engagements, healthy nurse activities, poster board event in collaboration with other professional organizations and colleges, recognition of Nurses Week, and the provision of CNU’s through educational presentations .
Each NNA MIG must annually submit an application for ongoing approval to the NNA Board of Directors . The purpose of the group may remain consistent; however, it is hoped that updated/additional goals and activities will be proposed annually to assure that members find the MIG a valuable part of their membership experience . Once again, in the Fall, the BOD’s will be ready to receive and review annual Memorandum Agreements .
Respectfully submitted,Lina Bostwick, EdD, RN, CNE
Secretary’s ReportConnie Morrill, RN
I would like to thank the Board of Directors and members for all of their help and support over the past four years I have served as your state secretary . Terry had her work cut out for her with this rookie secretary, at least as far as NNA is concerned . She was incredibly patient in guiding me to produce a professional-looking report of the proceedings of the board . Anna has been likewise patient and supportive and I truly appreciate her indulgence .
I have learned so much about the inner workings of our state organization and will continue to encourage my fellow nurses to join “their” organization and help to support the goals that benefit all of us . As far as the “Secretary’s Report” for this publication, I record the work of others so insight can be gained by reading their accompanying reports .
Again, I thank everyone for their support and wish the incoming secretary all the best . I am sure that anyone assuming this office can expect the same support and encouragement I have enjoyed during my two terms as the secretary of our Nebraska Nurses Association .

Legislative Advocacy and Representation Committee (LARC)
Rita Weber, R .N ., M .S .N .-Chair
The Legislative Advocacy and Representation committee consists of 10 elected members representing the four regions of the state . Thank you to the dedicated, elected volunteers who worked on this committee: Linda Stones, Linda Jensen, Lori Kelley-Norton, Jordan Colwell, Niki Eisenmann, Anne Obermiller, Terri Mitchell, Kathy Davis and Joan Nelson . The group also includes Melissa Florell, our Director of State Affairs; Don Wesely, our lobbyist; and invited guests including Anna Mackevicius (NNA President), Douglass Haas (NNA President-elect), and Ben Garcia (ANAI Fellow) . The group has been involved in (1) engaging in legislative advocacy on behalf of the Association, and (2) supporting the 2017 Nurses Day at the Legislature and giving input for early planning for the 2018 event .
2017 was the “long session” of the Nebraska legislature; which means the legislature met for 90 days concluding on June 2, 2017 . The LARC has been active with providing testimony and monitoring key issues that align with the NNA Legislative Platform . Here is an update on key legislation:
Legislative Session: Committee members reviewed 667 bills that were introduced in this year’s session . Significant bills included:
LB 73 raises the legal age to sell cigarettes, cigars, vapor products, alternative nicotine products, and smokeless tobacco from eighteen to twenty-one . NNA testified in support of this legislation which remains in committee at time of this writing .
LB88 which was originally introduced to specify standards and procedures to issue temporary credentials for military spouses under the Uniform Credentialing Act . LB88 has been amended to incorporate many key issues LARC has supported this session . The other legislation amended into LB88 are 1 . LB283 – Remove LPN-C designation and move all LPNs to having IV training, 2 . LB342 Adopt the Nurse Licensure Compact, 3 . LB425 updates education requirements for APRN-NPs, clarifies the transition-to-practice requirement of new graduates, and simplifies licensure requirements for experienced APRN-NPs moving to Nebraska from other states . LB88 PASSED
LB255 creates the Dialysis Patient Care Technician Registration Act with the purpose of the Department of Health and Human Services to create the Dialysis Patient Care Technician Registry in order to maintain an updated record of registered Dialysis Patient Care Technicians in the state . LB 255 also clarifies that dialysis patient care technicians may administer hemodialysis under the authority of a registered nurse licensed pursuant to the Nurse Practice Act . The Speaker picked LB255 for Consent Calendar with the amendment that will make it effective immediately upon signing by the governor . LB255 PASSED
LB368 would have repealed the helmet requirement for motorcycle riders over21 years of age . NNA opposed this bill and NNA has a long history of supporting the helmet requirement laws of Nebraska . LB368 advanced to general file but was defeated by filibuster .
25
2017 Nebraska Nurses Association
LB439 addresses the licensure and regulation provisions for assisted-living which will also remove barriers to the ability of registered nurses to practice fully within their level if licensure in the assisted-living facility . NNA testified in support of the bill and will continue to work with other groups on this issue since the bill did not move from General File this session .
Legislative Platform: The NNA Legislative Platform was revised extensively last year and no additional changes are proposed for 2018 .
Nurses’ Day at the Legislature: The event was held at the Cornhusker Hotel on February 9, 2017 . A total of over 400 individuals registered for the event . The keynote speaker was Mary Behrens MS,FNP-BC, FAANP who spoke about nurses’ “One Strong Voice . Lunch was held with 27 Senators and staffers attending . Planning has already started for the 2018 event, which will be held on March 1, 2017, at the Cornhusker Hotel . Make plans now to attend . Based on this report you can see a tremendous amount of work has been done to support and advocate for Nurses in Nebraska . Volunteers are always needed and welcomed .
Nursing Professional Development Committee – 2016/2017 Report

Director of State Affairs ReportMelissa Florell
The 2016-2017 year has been exciting and challenging . Along with the Board of Directors and governance committees, and MSD support staff, I have worked to attract, retain, and support members, maintain the NNA’s strong advocacy presence at the Nebraska Unicameral, and to improve the technological capabilities of the association .
MembershipThe Nebraska Nurses Association Value Pricing Initiative went live on March 1 . This initiative allows new members to join for $15/month . As of August, NNA has grown to 943 total members . As part of the Value Pricing Pilot there has been additional membership recruitment support from ANA . NNA members as of March 1, 2017 are now known as Premier members, and have access to an enhanced group of member benefits . These may be accessed by logging-in to the ANA website and clicking on “My ANA .” You will then see “bonus benefits for Premier Members” link .
During the fourth quarter of 2017 I will be working with my MSD counterparts and volunteer leaders to improve member outreach, recruitment, and retention . We strive to learn what benefits are important to members, and how we can support and engage our members after they join . Be on the lookout for member benefit surveys in the coming months . These will be distributed in a variety of ways, including email, mail, and social media . We will use the data gathered to create our strategic and communication plans for 2018 .
LegislativeIt was a busy spring for the Nebraska Nurses Association . The LARC met regularly and submitted testimony on nine bills . I helped to write testimony, and traveled to Lincoln to testify on behalf of NNA for four bills . Despite a challenging Legislative landscape NNA enjoyed much success . The success
28
2017 Nebraska Nurses Association
was thanks to the hard work of our LARC committee, lobbyist Don Wesely, and many dedicated volunteers . This year NNA made one call-to-action to all NNA members . This was to ask for members to call their senators and ask them to oppose repealing Nebraska’s helmet law . This bill failed to achieve cloture, which was a big win for NNA and Nebraska . The call-to-action feature of CQ Roll Call worked well for this effort . The 2017 Nurses Day at the Legislature was very successful . There were approximately 475 nurses and students in attendance for the morning session . Approximately 260 stayed for lunch and were joined by 14 senators . The next Nurse’s Day at the Legislature will be held Thursday, March 1, 2018 .
TechnologyI am very excited to let members know that NNA will be changing our website platform this fall . The new website will be much easier to navigate and maintain, while improving our ability to share information with NNA members . The new platform will also save money in 2018 and beyond . This transition is one of the benefits of the MW MSD .
The technology and member recruitment initiatives supported by the MSD and volunteer leaders will provide powerful opportunities for growth, and I look forward to supporting these efforts . As a member of NNA/ANA I value the resources and opportunities that membership provides, and strive to make the organization as strong as possible for each of you . I believe that membership in NNA/ANA provides value that cannot be found in any other place . Values include personal opportunities for leadership, professional education, and monetary savings on important services . NNA/ANA also work continuously to make sure that nurses are represented during the policy process . Speaking with a cohesive, professional voice helps the public, as well as policy makers, appreciate the importance of the nursing profession . Thank you for your support of nursing through your NNA/ANA membership!
Nebraska Nurses FoundationTeresa L . Anderson, EdD, MSN, RN, NE-BC
NNF Board of Directors
The Nebraska Nurses Foundation continues to work to address our annual goals around fundraising, marketing, and the launch of our project grants for NNA members . Our four priority projects are highlighted below and we continue with fundraising with the silent auction and tax-deductible cash donations .
Honor a Nurse in Passing with the Nightingale TributeThe Nightingale Tribute was written to be used as a remembrance, honoring a loved one’s service to the nursing profession . The Nightingale Tribute is intended to be presented by a nursing colleague or friend and scheduled as part of the funeral service in collaboration with the family, funeral home and place of worship as appropriate . The entire tribute takes only two minutes and can be placed anywhere in the service appropriate to the traditions and beliefs of the recipient’s faith .
Celebrate a NurseProfessional nurses touch the lives of millions every day . By combining compassionate care with clinical reasoning and scientific expertise, nurses make a difference all day every day – at home and at work . Nurses coordinate the complex business of healthcare in a variety of settings and specialties . Join us to Celebrate Nursing by Praising a Nurse (or nurses)! Donate to the NNF to celebrate or remember a nurse in passing and we will send a personal message sharing your pride in them .

NNF Project Grants The grants are designed to provide funding for evidence-based practice, quality improvement or innovation projects conducted within clinical nursing settings . Funds are available for several grants up to $1,000 each .
ScholarshipsIn collaboration with the Nebraska Nurses Association, the NNF annually provides several scholarships for NNA members for both undergraduate and graduate education in nursing .
All permanent Board members, except Lynnee’ Pattrin, have extended for another 2-year term and we thank Lynnee’ for her support and service . Photos and biographies of the Board members and support staff can be found at our webpage - www .nebraskanurses .org/page/NNF
Effective June 30, 2017 the following restricted and non-restricted funds are on account for the association – General Checking - $16,686 .25; Shirley Dooling Memorial - $1196 .15; Scholarship Endowment - $14,283 .69; NNA Scholarship Fund - $12,916 .27 . January – June Income as $25 .00 and Expenses were $73 .00 . Financial services and management are contracted with the Midwest MSD, but the hours required from them have been minimal . Becoming incorporated has offered significant costs savings thanks to the volunteer efforts of the Board to take on administrative functions .
Meetings of the Board have been held on January 26, April 26, and August 3rd, with a fourth meeting planned for October . The NNF facilitated the Silent Auction and Cash donations at the NNA/NNP Convention on October 4-6, 2017 .
Nebraska Nurses Association Political Action CommitteeSubmitted by Linda Stones, NNA PAC Chair
The NNA PAC has 3 main goals . (1) Support candidates who are aligned with the NNA Legislative Platform, (2) Educate nurses on candidates running for office and (3) fundraising to support the first two items .
Candidate Support: The NNA PAC has been active representing nurses with candidates running for office . Next year, 2018, will be another big election year, with 24 of the State Legislature’s 49 seats up for election . So far NNA has provided financial support for 2 candidates running for office . Senator Merv Riepe of District 12, will be running as an incumbent . Senator Riepe serves as the Chair of Health and Human Services Committee . Senator Brett Lindstrom of District 18 . Senator Lindstrom was involved in introducing legislation to protect individuals (including nurses) in reporting scope of practice or licensure violations . (Whistleblower bill) .
Education: NNA PAC has created a website where we post the names of individuals who are running for each district race . We ask candidates to respond to probing questions to help determine where they stand on key issues . These surveys are then published for nurses to review prior to voting . Filing deadlines for the 2018 election are February 15th for incumbents and March 1st for non-incumbents . Between March 1st and the May 15th election, we will be working on getting these surveys distributed, returned and published . Between May 15th and the election in November, our plan is to organize nurses in meeting candidates in key districts to talk about nursing issues .
30
2017 Nebraska Nurses Association
Fundraising: In 2016, the NNA PAC held a wine-tasting fundraiser prior to convention . This was successful in raising funds to support several candidates . This year with the NNA and NNP joint meeting, we are planning on an informal gathering one night and will be selling Nebraska Nurse T-Shirts . Fundraising is crucial to the NNA PAC, as financial support is critical to helping elect candidates that are supportive of nursing issues . If you cannot attend an event but would like to donate, there is a donation button on our website .

Midwest Multi-State Division CNE Unit Judi Dunn MS, CPP, RN-BC
Nurse Peer Review Leader, Midwest MSD
The NNA participation in the Midwest Multi-state Division Continuing Nursing Education Unit continues to provide a positive force in support of high quality nursing continuing education .
There are currently 17 Midwest MSD Approved Provider Units in Nebraska .
Monthly conference calls between the Midwest MSD Nurse Peer Review Leader and Approved Provider Unit staff has proven to be a very worthwhile means of discussing topics, answering questions, sharing best practices and helping staff network with similar organization outside of NE . An in-person training workshop is being held on August 21, 2017 in Jefferson City MO . This live, interactive program allows Approved Provider Unit staff to network with other similar organizations as well as participate in educational training to enhance their current operations .
Further education has been necessary to fully integrate the ANCC changes with the accreditation criteria that necessitated revisions and updates to all Midwest MSD continuing education forms, and the Approved Provider Application as well as Unit processes . As can be expected, training and resources were also developed to support these changes within the Midwest MSD . Numerous ‘white papers’, other resources and materials have been developed so that Approved Provider Units can not only increase their knowledge but also provide a firm base as to criteria requirements to ensure high quality CNE .
The Midwest MSD CNE Unit also saw in 2017 an increase in Individual Activity Applications submitted by individuals and organizations seeking contact hour for educational events planned according to ANCC criteria . The ability to provide such education outside of a healthcare facility/organization, provides Nebraska nurses with even more high quality continuing education opportunities .

2017 Nebraska Nurses Association
Midwest Multi-State Division (MW MSD)Jill Kliethermes, MSN, RN, FNP-BC
The MW MSD became a corporate entity in late 2016 and is governed by the MW MSD Board of Directors . Each member State Nurses Association (SNA) has two member Directors, and from these a President, Vice-President, and Secretary/Treasurer has been elected . The fiscal year for the MSD corresponds with the calendar year . Each state will contribute to the financial support of MSD operations based upon a per member rate, calculated on a percentage of MSD members from each state . MSD operations will include support for administrative and management staff, technology, financial services, CE services, call center/reception services, membership services, legal support, communication and social media support, and other shared needs as identified in the future .
SNAs continue to have independent, incorporated and fiduciary Boards of Directors at the state level to manage strategic and financial decisions, events, local advocacy and legislative actions . Bylaws, elections, reference proposals, membership and budgetary planning would remain the responsibility of the SNAs .
The MSD employs a Division CEO to whom the following positions would report: • StateDirectors(FTEstobedeterminedbyeachstate)
o Kansaso Missourio Nebraska
• MarketingandCommunicationDirector–(1.0FTE)• Administrative Coordinator (includes Call Center/CE Assistant & membership database/
reporting duties) (0 .725 FTE) • FinanceDirector–(1.0FTE)• ProfessionalDevelopmentDirector(1.0FTE)
o Nurse Plannero Consultant Nurse Peer Review Leadero Consultant Lead Nurse Planner
Lobbyists continue to be hired and paid by individual states, and is currently planned for Nebraska and Missouri . Additional member SNAs will be welcomed and would offset expenses for each SNA who is a part of the MW MSD .
Goals for the Future
The MW MSD Board of Directors believe that the economy of scale created by the joint operations enhance member value (responsiveness, technology support, additional education, and expert consultation) and reduce expenses, while reducing the burden on volunteer leaders . Utilizing shared resources has the potential to significantly increase membership and strengthen the imprint of SNAs on nursing practice and public policy within the states .
NNA participated fully in the development of the MW MSD as a corporation, and is dedicated to make it a successful and self-sustaining model for NNA operations . Anna Mackevicius, NNA President, and Teresa Anderson, Past NNA President are currently serving as the NNA representative on the MW MSD board .
