He has grown up around airplanes his whole life; both of his grandfathers were pilots. His father, Vernon Storm, started Scott County Spraying Service in 1972, in Scott City, Kansas and by the age of 12 he was working at his father’s spray business. Competing in sports taught him that determination and hard work were two important keys to success. He started swimming for Scott City swim team when he was seven. His mother said they needed something to channel all of his energy. He played basketball and ran cross-country and track for the Scott City middle and High school. During his final high school race at Kansas State High School Track and Field, he broke the Kansas Class 4 A state track record in both the 800m and the 1600m. He held those records for over 26 years. He accepted a track scholarship to Kansas State University. For his high school graduation gift, he asked if he could learn to fly. In spring of 1989 he began his first lessons; his first solo was June of 1989. While at Kansas State University, he received a Kinesiology Degree and also obtained his commercial pilot’s license. He later earned a K-12 Physical Education/Health degree so that he could teach and coach in the winter and aerial spray in the summer. In 1997 he moved to Wahoo, Nebraska and started spraying for a couple local aerial applicators as well as helping his father. In 2004 he started his own business in Wahoo, Nebraska called Storm Flying Service. He started spraying a Cessna Ag Wagon which he purchased from his father. As his business grew he purchased a turbine powered Ag Cat. In 2005 he married his wife, Colleen, they have six children. He enjoys spending time making memories with his family on many outings and trips taken on family days. He also enjoys hunting, waterfowl in particular. In 2011 he purchased Hershey Flying service which, at the time, was located in Hershey, Nebraska. Along with running a repair station, rebuilding Ag Cats and selling parts, Hershey Flying Service designed Storm Cutters. “Saving Lives ... One Set at a Time.” In 2016 he received the NAAA Delta Airlines “Puffer” Award, in recognition of his “outstanding contribution to the design of agricultural and/or related equipment. For making the Storm Cutters wire cutters STC for owners of Air Tractors around the world.” Also in 2016, Hershey Flying Service was moved from Hershey, Nebraska to David City Nebraska and was soon renamed Storm Aeronautics. At this past NAAA in Savanna GA he introduced his latest design, The Storm Shield, this windshield, for all Air Tractor and Thrush models, will provide greater protection against drones or birds. 2018 Leadership At Its Best Program

Jay Calleja, Manager of Communications, National Agricultural Aviation Association

Sixteen NAAA/state association representatives completed the 2018 Leadership At Its Best Program, sponsored by Syngenta, Feb. 15-17. Participants, including Mary Lambrecht and Allison Donner of Nebraska (left photo: front row, center and center-right), earned their graduation certificates after three days of intensive professional development, including media training and appointments on Capitol Hill.

“I had one of the most rewarding times of my life with this group. When we met February 14th for Leadership Training in Washington D.C., we were strangers with a common goal of wanting to become more effective leaders to help support our love for agriculture. By the time we were finished on February 17th, we were friends and allies. So thankful to have met such a great group of people in our industry.” - Mary Lambrecht

The NAAA Leadership Training Program has been in existence since 1995 and has helped more than 330 agricultural aviation representatives hone their leadership skills. Congratulations Mary and Allison!

Doug Parkin, the executive director of the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum Foundation, attended the Museum Committee meeting and provided an update on the National Agricultural Aviation (NAA) Museum renovation project. The NAA Museum is housed inside the Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Museum. NAAA previously approved $8,000 to go to the renovation project when construction begins. The museum is $150,000 short for renovations and seeking individual

and company donations. However, the foundation will start renovating the NAA Museum in sections once funding is released. The Museum Committee agreed to release the original $8,000 and voted to send an additional $8,000 from the Harold Miller Fund to the NAA Museum for the renovation. The committee also continued to discuss having exhibits at other museums across the country. Washington’s Erin Morse is speaking to the Museum of Flight in Seattle about a complimentary space to feature aerial application. This could open the door for other museums across the country to do likewise. NATA is matching the proceeds of the 50/50 raffle ($1400) at the 2018 Annual Conferene. NATA will be making a $2800 donation to the museum.
