Summer is right around the
Summer is right around the corner! Tioga County Public Health wants our families to have fun and be safe with our Summer Safety Tips!
When bicycling, rollerblading, and skateboarding, it is important to wear protective gear. That means always wearing a helmet and bright-colored clothing so that you are easily seen.
An adult should be present when children are swimming. If you are swimming, never swim alone. While children like to play in creeks, ponds, and kiddie pools during the summer, always check the water and area before letting kids play in it.
Prevent bug bites. Mosquitoes and ticks love the warm summer weather as much as we do! Remember bugs transmit harmful diseases, so it is important to use insect repellent.
Heat-related illnesses and sunburns are serious. It is important to use sunscreen with at least 15 SPF protection every time you are outside. Drink plenty of water and do not forget to give plenty of water to your pets.
Never leave children and pets in parked cars (even with the windows cracked), just 60 seconds in the car can be deadly!

Tioga County Public Health Department Page 5
If you are under age 18, you must have working papers to work. If you are 14 you can apply for working papers from your school guidance office.
Where do I go to find a job? Think about:
Places you know of where teens or friends currently work.
Programs you have been involved in or volunteered at that have teens on staff.
Check out local bulletin boards (gas stations, grocery stores).
Don’t forget about lawn work and babysitting for neighbors and family.
The Application
Applications ask many questions - make sure you know the answers. Complete a practice application ahead of time.
The Interview
Ask an adult or friend to do a mock interview with you. This should include:
Describe your previous work and volunteer experience.
Why you are interested in this job?
How much time can you commit?
What sets you apart?
Be Realistic:
Jobs are not easy to find. In the meantime improve your skills.
