CNC has made stops in Glencoe Mill Village in the past but nothing like this one. The local friends group will have a band playing on the porch of the museum and lots of restored houses to look at on the way in. Glencoe was the home to textile manufacturing and typical of many small textile towns in the south, very much a company town. The mill had their own electric plant on the banks of the Haw River. Preservations purchased Glencoe and sold the properties to individuals who renovated the old mill houses or built new ones to look like the old company houses. The Glencoe Mill Museum has an extensive collection of textile manufacturing memorabilia. Our hosts will provide locally produced pimento cheese and chicken salad sandwiches, potato chips, Biscuitville sausage biscuits, tea and Krispy Kreme doughnuts all for a donation to the museum. In addition, Reprieve, a company that makes shirts and hats out of recycled, plastic water bottles, has provided two shirts and two hats to be raffled for donations to the museum. Winners will be drawn and announced at camp on Tuesday night.
