THE COURSEA NEW PERSPECTIVEThe Fall-Winter School “Fashion Archives: Heritage Manage-ment” is a two-week full-im-mersion specialization course about archives, and product ar-chives, in the Fashion, Luxury and Lifestyle industries. In a sector in perpetual evolution as that of fashion, and under the surge of recent market changes, companies seem to react and strengthen themselves through profound self-rethinking. A point in this sense is showing the reco-very and revision of its heritage, the true heart of the brand and the true memory of the whole enterprise. But, for it to be vital, the heritage must be adequately organized. Knowing the archive at its various stages or learning how to form it, order it and catalogue it to make it a strategic tool for business competitiveness - in de-fining the brand identity and the marketing heritage – is what

VISITS

FERRAGAMO SALVATORE MUSEUM AND FERRAGAMO FOUNDATION, FlorenceThe Salvatore Ferragamo Mu-seum is located at the historic site of the company, the 13th century Palazzo Spini Feroni in Florence. It started in 1995 on the wishes of the family in order to allow the models of Salvatore Ferragamo to be known as the role he has played in the history of footwear and international fashion. Every year the museum organizes an exhibition, starting from an episo-de of the founder’s life, trying to reach today, analysing various fa-cets of the historical, artistic and cultural context. The Ferragamo Foundation was founded in 2013 with the aim of promoting and enhancing craftsmanship and Made in Italy in all its perceptions. It also offers young people an op-portunity for growth and training. Of great importance are the pro-tection and enhancement of the historical archive, in which docu-ments, patents and products that bear witness to Salvatore Ferra-gamo’s entire career as well as the history of the brand are kept.

GUCCI MUSEUM, Florence

The Gucci Museum is housed inside the medieval Palazzo della Mercanzia in Florence overlooking the Piazza della Signoria. A clever restoration has allowed the mi-nimal contemporary elegance to dialogue with the original featu-res of the palace. As the palazzo della Mercanzia was created in support of the city’s corporations that made Florence a promi-nent center in the Renaissance landscape, in the same way the Gucci Museum is a reference for Florentine art and crafts. The museum goes back in history to the maison’ s beginning when it was a company of leather goods up to it being leader in the luxury goods market. In the rooms, you can admire the iconic items of the brand, while the archive is stored in the basement.

MISSONI ARCHIVE,Sumirago (VA))

The Missoni archive retains the company’s production from the early sixties consisting of 17,000 items from Missoni men’s and wo-men’s collections; 10,000 acces-sories (bags, shoes, scarves, hats, glasses, jewellery); Almost 7000 fabrics and about 1000 colour folders; Communication material; Books, catalogues of exhibitions; Photo and video material about the Missoni family and the events the company took part in. It is also the custodian of the artistic work of Ottavio Missoni (original tape-stries and drawings). The chrono-logical organization of the archive began in 1994 through a physical and digital reordering. The archive is a source of inspiration to keep the identity of the house in the new collections. It also realizes or provides material and costumes to museums or organizations for exhibitions and events where Luca Missoni is often the curator. In its artistic and cultural function, it often has exchanges with museu-ms, institutions, fashion schools, professional institutes and univer-sities.

MAGA MUSEUM, Gallarate (VA)

The MAGA museum was founded in 1966 as the Civic Gallery of Modern Art in Gallarate. Today it holds more than 5,000 works that illustrate the main artistic orien-tations from the mid-twentieth century to today, with openings on contemporary international research. In the exclusive multi-functional space called Sala Araz-zi, some of the most significant works of Ottavio Missoni are exhi-bited: studies for tapestries and fabrics made of felt paper and unique patchwork tapestries cre-ated by him personally. In Decem-ber 2009, the City of Gallarate formed the Foundation “Modern and Contemporary Art Gallery Sil-vio Zanella” with the task of ma-naging the museum’s activities. Since 2010, the museum has been named MAGA - Gallarate Art Museum and has moved to a more prestigious venue.
