October greetings We are welcoming Fall in laughingly. It is hard to rake leaves when you are wearing flip flops and sun visor! But who is complaining??? We are preparing for fall/winter and have ordered our blizzard packs so it’s officially Fall! It is dreadful what the hurricane season has done to Florida, Texas and Puerto Rico. Red Cross responded to 64,000 disasters last year they are 95% volunteer and 90 % of disasters are home fires (October 9th to 15th is Fire Prevention Week) $.91 of every dollar goes to victim’s services and relief.
To donate by check or to a specific cause, please mail to: American Red Cross PO Box 37839 Boone, IA 50037-0839 Or call 800-HELP-NOW Or by website at www.redcross.org
Locally the Greater Pike Foundation is accepting donations for Puerto Rico which has been
devastated by Hurricanes Irma and Maria. Contact them @ https://www.greaterpike.org Please be aware that November is Caregiver month and Alzheimer month. We will be having a special event for our caregivers who give tirelessly to their loved ones for their safety, health, and security. If you or someone you know is a caregiver, please share this opportunity with them. We are putting our list together for invitees to the event. It promises to be fun, informative and stress free. Our new budget year is in progress. We are offering a number of programs for consumers to improve their safety, wellness, and to educate you on supports and services in our Area. We have welcomed a new aging care manager onto the team: Dawn Acevedo, Dawn will be performing assessments, completing care plans, and helping connect seniors with
services in their own home. Our office in Westfall Apartments is open for business. If you need help with a PACE Application, have questions about long term care services in our area, please call the main number (800)-233-8911and make an
appointment to speak to one of our person-centered-counselors. We are also serving folks living in Matamoras and Westfall Township at this office. Of course a great big thank you goes out to Jonah Mendalbaum, owner and developer for Devon Mgt. who has sponsored this effort. Happy Halloween!

Holiday
Straddling the line between fall and winter, plenty and pauci-ty, life and death, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. One quarter of all the candy sold annually in the U.S. is pur-chased for Halloween.

Attention Medicare Recipients
From April 1, 2018, through Dec. 31, 2019, Medicare will mail out new Medicare cards that no longer have Social Security numbers on them. The new card identification number will be a random mix of numbers and letters as a way to protect a cardholder’s identity. Some things to remember: A cardholder’s benefits will stay the same, with no changes to coverage. The only difference is the cardholder’s ID number. A cardholder doesn’t have to take any action and does not need to confirm personal information. The card will automatically come in the mail and is ready to use right away. The new card does not cost anything, and fees do not apply. Medicare representatives don’t call you or come to your house. Hang up on anyone who calls you and says there is a fee for the card or that they need to confirm your identity. For more information, call the PA-Senior Medicare Patrol at 1-800-356-3606.
