From the PrincipalI congratulate the College community on exceptional 2017 SACE results.

These results celebrate individual achievement, hard work and tenacity of teachers, families and the wider College community.

Significant milestones for 2017 included:

• 100% SACE completion.

• College Dux - Hyunjun Kim with an ATAR of 99.55.

• Proxime Accessit - Siram Raj & Daniel Malcolm 98.80 ATAR.

• Alex Cece was the recipient of a Le Cordon Bleu Bachelor of Business Scholarship.

• 119 students across the College completing a VET Course.

In celebrating this significant achievement it is also worth remembering that academic excellence is not defined solely by how high your ATAR (Australian Tertiary Admittance Rank) score is; neither is it defined by the number of A’s or merits received. It is not enough to simply learn facts that will only be regurgitated at exam time and which may bear very little relevance to the world in which we live.

CBC founder Blessed Edmund taught us that learning in itself is an empty and selfish pursuit, if learning does not inspire us to make the world a better place.

I offer the blessings of the entire College community to each and every one of our 127 students who achieved their SACE in 2017. Although you have now left the safety and security of our College gates, CBC has never left you. We continue to pray for your ongoing success. We continue to encourage you to dream impossible dreams and to use the skills, knowledge and wisdom you have learned at CBC to make the world a better place.

CBC was very pleased with its 2017

SACE results, achieving 100% SACE

completion. The College Dux was

Hyunjun Kim who achieved an ATAR

of 99.55. Pleasingly the College saw

a number of students who achieved

ATAR’s in the 90s, with 13 students

achieving an ATAR above 90. The College’s staff have

continued to work hard on making shifts in grade

bands and the number of students in the A grade band

has shifted from 22.88% in 2015 to 26.1% in 2017.

Approximately 70% of students achieved in the B grade

band or above.

These excellent results were also reflective of the

improvement in the ATAR results, with 36% of students

achieving 80 or above compared with 27% in 2015. A

total of nine merits were awarded in the following subjects;

Physics, Design Technology - Material Products (2),

Information Processing and Publishing (2), Integrated

Learning - Religion(2), General Mathematics and the

Research Project. The College continues to perform well

in the Research Project and Personal Learning Plan with a

100% achievement rate.

A highlight for the College is the growing number of

students who have studied Vocational and Educational

Training (VET) subjects as part of their SACE. Eight

students would not have achieved their SACE without the

use of their VET subjects. Nearly 50% of students who

completed SACE, also studied VET subjects. The student

with the second highest ATAR in the College, Daniel

Malcolm successfully used a Certificate III in a Business

course to contribute to his ATAR of 98.8. Ms Sandra

Mitchell (Careers Counsellor and VET Coordinator) requires

a special commendation for the outstanding work she has

completed in building up the Vocational Education and

Training programs, opportunities and SACE pathways.

93% of CBC Tertiary Applications received a first round

offer. These offers included:

These offers reflect well on the College’s excellent

results in Science and Mathematics, building on the

strategic directions of STEAM. Universities and TAFE

placements were distributed over the University of

South Australia (53%), University of Adelaide (20%) and

Flinders University (20%).
