Hello everyone. I hope you all have had a nice enjoyable summer!

It has sure been a busy summer on the SUN front. A lot of new features in works, which I will explain in a bit, but first I want to go back and say a HUGE Thank you again to all of you who attended the SUN Conference in Vegas in April. It was great seeing you all there. You all helped make 2016 a success.

I also wanted to Thank You for your votes in electing me as your next President. I know I have some very big shoes to fill and will try my hardest to live up to and exceed the expectations. Ken Kemp has done a wonderful job in making SUN what it is today. Thankfully, Ken Kemp has decided to stay on the board and help in the transition. With my election to President, that has left a vacancy in the Vice President Position. I have, however, appointed Ken Kemp to serve out the remainder of the Vice President term. At the Vegas conference you may have heard me mention that we will be getting a brand new website. This I am very pleased to announce is still running right on schedule. We are working very hard to debut the new website by Nov 1st. This website will allow us to grow the amount of information available to our members. The site will include a highly enhanced member/vendor search area, an easy to use resource library, a freeware library, a video library, a newsroom for SUN and SyteLine news, just to name a few. The member and conference registration processes are being redesigned making it more user friendly. I am confident that you will enjoy the site as much as I do.

Along with the new website came a new logo. So when you see this logo, this is still the same SUN group with a new design to go with our new website.

Many of you have been waiting for the information to be released regarding the next SUN Conference. I want to apologize for not having it out sooner to you. We have spent a lot of time finding just the right location that is big enough for our group, that gives us the best area for learning and networking, and that can offer a reasonable rate for our members.

We know how much value our SUN Conferences can provide to our members and we wouldn’t want to jeopardize any of that. While we have had some hiccups, we are now happy to say get your shorts and flip flops ready cause we will be in having fun in the sun in Orlando, Florida next March 13th through the 15th, 2017 at the Hilton Orlando Lake Buena Vista

We have some new ideas in the works to make this conference even better than we have in the past. We will have more sessions, more tracks, more information, and more networking opportunities. So be on the lookout for more news to be released.

2017 is going to be a great year. Hope you will join us and make 2017 the best year yet!

A Letter from the New SUN President

National Bulk Equipment uses SyteLine by Infor for their ERP along with SolidWorks and AutoCad Electirical for engineering design. Ron Dalman is a member of the materials team that writes up designs to be sent out to the shop floor. Among the challenges they were facing was the time consuming and redundant tasks required to get information from their CAD programs into SyteLine.

“Prior to getting CADTalk I would have anywhere

from twenty to two hundred prints that I would place into Excel to import into SyteLine," Dalman said, "I would then have to turn around and do a rewrite in Bill of Materials.” “Scott Brickler (of SolutionsX) was in our office for about a week, to make sure how we did things worked with how CadTalk worked. He was very helpful setting up the templates we are still using today.” Dahlman continued. “Between Scott and David Trout they have fixed or taken care of all the problems. The thing that impresses me is that they listened to my concerns and have changed the program to make my job using it easier.”

According to Ron; “We’re getting things to the shop floor 70% faster and everyone is happy with that!”

There are many advantages to deploying applicationsin the cloud; however there are some limitations thatyou need to understand before making a decision tomove to the cloud. There are two very basic rules thatcan guide you when considering the extensibility ofInfor CloudSuite™ Industrial or CloudSuite Business.

Rule #1: You can make any change to the software aslong as it is done with the Infor Mongoose tool set.

Rule #2: No direct access to the databases or to anyof the servers is permitted. This means no T-SQLcoding, apart from what can be done throughMongoose forms.

The Mongoose framework allows CloudSuite Industrial and CloudSuite Business to be flexible and extensible systems even in a multi-tenant cloud. Changes you make are managed for tenants in their databases. Other techniques for extensibility or integration that require direct access to servers can’t be permitted because in a multi-tenant cloud, thoseservers are shared across multiple tenants.

Considering the rules defined above, there are a large number of changes you can make to your CloudSuite Industrial or CloudSuite Business configuration that allow you to adapt it to your unique needs.

ConfigurationsTo keep complexity to a minimum and allow for fast implementations, we license additional functionality individually; this keeps the system from becoming cluttered with features and functionality that you do not need. We do this in two main areas: industry focus

and localizations. We have created Industry Packsthat deliver last mile functionality for industries thathave unique manufacturing requirements. We haveIndustry Packs for the following industries: • Automotive • Molding and Forming • Printing and Packaging • Process

Also, within each major functional area are Parameter Forms. These allow for default settings or configurations that allow you to activate or de-activate appropriate functionality. For example, if you need to calculate VAT or how you are going to deploy your multi-site configuration, you’d choose a Parameter Form.

User PersonalizationsUser personalizations are those changes that your typical user wants to make to increase their productivity. Some of the changes that a typical user can make are: • Creating a personal menu that displays only their most used menu choices • Hiding the menu to free up screen space • Adjusting the window split between the grid view and the panel view

Infor CloudSuite Industrial and CloudSuite Business: What can be modified when they’re deployed in a multi-tenant cloud

• Changing the sequence of columns and what columns are displayed in a grid or DataView • Creating or modifying DataViews • Saving multiple formats of DataViews for quick recall at anytime

ExtensionsExtensions are those changes that require technicalskills; these changes take advantage of the Mongooseframework that was used to build CloudSuite Industrial and CloudSuite Business. Remembering Rule #1, there are tools within the application to do the following: • Add new columns and tables to the schema • Extend and create new IDOs • Modify EXTGEN stored procedures • Create and extend AES events, event handlers, actions, and triggers • Extend and create new forms

All changes made through the Mongoose toolset prefixes the change with the Multi-Tenant ID of the

customer. This applies to all forms, IDOs, columns, and tables that the user creates or modifies. Changes can be made for an individual, a group of users, or for the site. You are never making changes to the vendor delivered forms. All changes are layered on top of the vendor delivered functionality.

IntegrationsIntegrations add new functionality or connect to external systems through a development environment other than Mongoose. Just to be clear that we are

not violating Rule #1, we are making the connections through the Mongoose IDO layer, but the application that we want to connect to can be any technology that supports the following communication methodologies to communicate with the IDO:

• IDO SOAP WebService—Both .Net (Visual Studio) and Java WSDL are provided • IDO REST Service • IDO .Net Class Library—Build your own client programs, which then execute IDO Requests via XML over HTTP • IDO Request XML over HTTP-The documented IDO Request XML schema, which supports multiple operations and transaction management, posted to the synchronous URL, <cloudserver>/IDORequestService/RequestService.aspx • The Mongoose Application Event Service– Generate an AES event, with in and out parameters • Infor ION® for asynchronous calls for importing or exporting data

There are multiple ways to get data into and out of CloudSuite Industrial and CloudSuite Business, in bothsynchronous and asynchronous methods, without going directly to the database.

Flat File SupportCompanies often need to be able to import or export a flat file unattended, such as in the case of EDI. There is new functionality that is being added to CloudSuite Industrial and CloudSuite Business that will permit this; that functionality will be available mid-2016.

ReportingBeing able to modify reports has long been one of the many ways that customers tailor the system to their needs. However, because the core technology used in creating reports has been using SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), it requires access to the database—which violates Rule #2.

We are striving to reduce this limitation and have doneseveral things to mitigate this situation:

• Creation of multiple report formats—The most modified reports are usually external facing documents, such as Invoices and check printing. We have provided multiple formats that include the long established standards, as well as versions that were designed based on consumer-grade financial applications to make things simple and clean.

• Leverage of DataViews—All Cloud customers have theWorkBench Suite as part of their core bundle. DataViews contain a tool set that allows users to create new DataViews; Infor is providing additional DataViews with the standard product. DataViews allow the IT staff to focus on more strategic goals and allow the user to address their own tactical reporting needs.

• Export to Excel—All forms in the application allow you to take a collection of data that is displayed

in the form and export it to Excel. This provides another self-service method of creating reports.• Financial Report Writer—This built in tool leverages the power of Excel to create and format financial documents.

• Infor BI with Q&A—The BI tool is an optional purchase that allows you to create reports and generate graphical information. The Q&A tool is focused on creating financial reports, such as cash flow statements and balance sheets.

The release of 9.01 (planned for the last quarter of 2016) will include a new report tool that will allow the users to create and modify reports through the Mongoose tool set in the same manner that users modify data entry forms.

Many people in the SyteLine (CloudSuite Industrial) world view The Lake Companies’ Shop-Trak, Doc-Trak, Fact-Trak, and Beacon-Trak® applications as separate modules with little to no impact on each other. At  SyteLineCon 2016  in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 3rd-5th, we will introduce an interconnected ecosystem of game changing, lever moving, simple, elegant, yet powerful opportunities for our customer’s businesses.

We have changed the game again with our patent-pending technology in  Beacon-Trak®  that even have the analysts amazed. When combining all the capabilities of our existing applications, along with the following new introductions, we have ushered in a disruptive force to the manufacturing world called MOM (Manufacturing Operations Management). The capabilities are revolutionary, yet simple, elegant, and powerful, which are the principle requirements in the design of all our applications.

The SyteLine manufacturing world will be introduced for the first time to capabilities like:

• Tracking production, efficiency and quality back to the individual machine/resource level as compared to the work center level.

• Capturing uptime and downtime for every individual machine, along with reporting and analysis to allow you to improve machine utilization and their ability to grow revenue.

• Provide an amazing new metric called OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness). By tracking OEE down to the machine/resource level our customers will understand how every piece of equipment is performing from a utilization, efficiency, and quality perspective.

• The use of highly visible, yet shareable note capabilities called Doc-Notes. These “texting-like” notes are a kin to applying automation to sticky-notes. Doc-Notes will be used from the office to the shop floor to improve collaboration throughout the organization on important topics that need rapid communication.

• The integration of Doc-Trak to Cloud-based document storage, allowing companies to leverage the unlimited, inexpensive resources of the Cloud for off-site document storage.

• Creating Doc-Trak  integration to Laserfiche Document Management software. Laserfiche is an industry leader in OCR (Optical Character Recognition) scanning capabilities and ability to have PDF searchable scanned documents, along with providing secure, searchable document storage.

• The ability to electronically link Shop-Trak to your automated machinery on the shop floor with our new DMI (Direct Machine Interface) capabilities. This results in real-time capture of quantity and machine up/down time, along with the ability to capture nearly any kind of information from any machine, including speed, temperature, pressure, etc.

• New roles have been added to Beacon-Trak®, for the CEO, CFO, COO, Planner/Scheduler, and Quality staff. The result is role-based, location-specific, real-time information as each individual walks the shop floor, is in a meeting, from their office or from anywhere they happen to be.

• Proximity-based efficiency, uptime, downtime, quality, status and OEE information down to the individual machine/resource level utilizing Beacon-Trak®.

It’s our intent to drive your manufacturing company to new heights. To better your best. To allow you to blow away your competition. To open up new worlds, and give you an unfair advantage in your industry.

This article is appearing late, but you are still invited to SyteLineCon 2016 to witness first hand, how it will

all be done. You’ll be amazed at the simplicity. We look forward to seeing you there!

Many years ago, in what seems like an eternity, I was part of the SUN Board of Directors. During this time, I remember different end users at different times askingabout inventory shortages, and how Syteline did not actually have a “One Stop Shop” that identified item shortages, and when they would or could possibly occur, in a single report. A few versions of Syteline later, we are still at the same problem.

I was recently at the SUN Conference in Vegas this spring, and still heard the same complaint with Syteline 8 and 9. There is no single shortage report in the system. Users have to run multiple reports, output to Excel, and maybe “meld” something together, which is very time consuming. So, I saw a need. And created a solution…

Thus the Item Shortage Report for Syteline was created to give end users a report that would specifically identify shortages when dealing with requirements and replenishments for an item. Think about how Planners and Schedulers work throughout their day. They try to create a stable plan for the shop floor – knowing that at any time, other variables such as Sales trying to wedge a new order that’s due in 2 weeks, can occur, and throwthat good plan you just created this morning – into some form of chaos! Can you do it? Will you be short on items if you allow for the new plan?

The report "pinpoints" these items, and when they would be short, in a “transactional format”. The end user enters an item range from a custom form, and a “Start and End Date Fence" - meaning do not look before or past these 2 dates in time. Note that if one or both date fields are left blank that the report will not look at this specific date parameter.

The report then shows, in due date order, all the requirements and replenishments for that item (a tie in dates would go to replenishment), starting with its current on-hand qty, then moving through all the requirements / replenishments) - in due date order…

IF the item's on-hand qty drops below zero at any time, there is a column that says "Shortage".

IF the item's on-hand qty is above zero on the last line of item, that column would display "Surplus". This is helpful in today’s Lean Manufacturing environment. It would show a Production Planner a surplus, enabling you to remove a possible surplus of inventory in the future.

This was the initial report “format”. It quickly became apparent that the report would also be useful in various other formats. End user clients and companies were asking for updates in the report configuration. So the following options were added:

• The report could now be setup as a custom Dataview.

• The report could be adapted to run a range (or single) Job, instead of Items. The report would then look at a Job, or Job range, and show all the potential item shortages for the Job Materials of that Job, and all the Job Materials for the subjobs required in the parent BOM.

"I saw a need. And created a solution…"

Don’t Get Caught Short with Item Shortages in Syteline!

Changes toMembership Dues

The Syteline User Network has been around for 28 years. In those 28 years, SUN has focused on providing the most value for the annual membership dues. Your membership dues are used to help support local events, host a national conference, publish a quarterly magazine, host/maintain a website, provide social media communications as well as other administrative costs to run the non-profit organization.

Your dollars allow SUN to accomplish our mission to “Network Together to Accomplish More.” Just like in your companies, costs are rising for SUN. In order to continue to provide the best value for your membership, SUN will make a motion to change our bylaws to increase our customer membership dues from $185 per company to $250.

Our vendor membership will increase from $300 to $400 per vendor company. The vote to approve this change will take place at the next SUN Conference. Your affirmative vote will help continue the success of SUN for the next 28 years.

Thank you – SUN Board of Directors
