Almighty Creator and ever-living God: we worship your glory, eternal Three-in-One,

and we praise your power, majestic One-in-Three. Keep us steadfast in this faith, de-

fend us in all adversity, and bring us at last into your presence, where you live in end-

less joy and love, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

SERMON

HYMN OF THE DAY Come, Though Almighty King Hymn #408

FIRST LESSON

Isaiah 6:1-8

This reading narrates

Isaiah’s vision of the

Lord surrounded by

angels. They sing

“Holy, holy, holy,” a

song the church sings

at the beginning of the

great thanksgiving.

This liturgical text in-

vites the church and all

creation to sing in

praise of God’s glory.

That glory is God’s

mercy toward sinners.

GOSPEL

John 3:1-17

Jesus’ miracles

prompt Nicodemus

to visit him in

secrecy. Jesus tells

him about being

born of the Spirit

and about the Son

who has been sent

by God to save.

SECOND LESSON

Romans 8:12-17

In describing the new

life of faith, Paul refers

to all three persons of

the Trinity: the Spirit

leads us to recognize

that we are children of

God the Father and

sisters and brothers

with Christ the Son.

...we praise your name and join in their unending hymn:

SANCTUS

WORDS OF INSTITUTION

THE LORD'S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name,

thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive

those who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever.

Amen.

Please be seated.

THE DISTRIBUTION

Bethany welcomes all to receive the body and blood of Christ in Holy Communion. An usher

will direct you forward for communion. There are several stations across the front of the seat-

ing sections. Groups are welcome to visit a communion station together. You will receive a

piece of bread in your hand, please dip the bread into the cup of wine. Those who are not re-

ceiving communion are invited to receive a blessing. Note that the communion station at the

center has gluten-free bread and alcohol-free wine.

TODAY AT BETHANY

We will be Honoring Veterans between worship

services today by gathering at the flower garden in the

front circle drive. Our Operation One Nation team has

planted tulips in this area. A plaque will designate this

garden as a place that honors military persons. The

brief service of honor will take place at 9:45 a.m.

Thank you to everyone who has participated in the

diaper drives for Inner City Health Center. The

patients who have babies and toddlers in diapers are

incredibly grateful for this gift, as diapers can be a

rather large expense for them. Also, if you missed the

deadline and would still like to participate, please drop

off your donations directly to Inter City Health. Size

one diapers are especially needed.

Altar Flowers: Flowers today were given by Claire

Tulloh in memory of Charles Tulloh and Steve

Mitchell, by Linda Gloor in honor of her

granddaughter, Aven Evelynn Nelson in celebration of

Fellowship Hall Celebration Coming late June or

early July – Date will be announced soon!

Refurbishment of the Fellowship Hall is ongoing. At the

appropriate time, we will unveil the display of messages

of prayer and blessing left by members during the April

22 “Sharpie” event. These messages will be encased in

a clear tube on the ceiling of the Fellowship Hall for all

to view. This is an opportunity to give thanks and to say

thanks to all who’ve contributed to the project. It’s also

an opportunity to envision the next phase of Renewal

for Growth—refurbishment of the sanctuary.

GET INVOLVED

Life/Safety Committee: Have you seen church

members wearing Blue Cross lapel pins on Sunday

mornings? They are members of Bethany’s Life/ Safety

Committee, and they are here to react to emergencies

and lend assistance to those in need. They pro-actively

greet and welcome people as they come to church. If

you see something, say something to anyone wearing

the Blue Cross lapel pin. Want to know more or get

involved? Contact David at 303-887-2842 or

[email protected], or Laura at

[email protected].

Our VBS theme this year is “Shipwrecked:

Rescued by Jesus!” We will welcome 150 children

and youth into our building from 9:00 a.m. to noon on

June 11-15 for singing, dancing, playing games, hearing

Bible stories and loving Jesus! Help by serving as a

crew or station leader, or by donating needed items.

Come and see our table in the Narthex! Contact Gayle

at [email protected] for more info.

THANK YOU BETHANY!

Introducing…

SNACK CHAT On Wednesday Nights following worship in June and

July join Pastor Gary for Snack Chat. We will gather at

local eateries, for a beverage, snack, even dinner if you

have not eaten yet, and talk theology. Bring your

questions or else Pastor Gary will have to throw out a

couple of zingers. We will reflect on that night’s faith

story and go from there. Do not expect to get all the

answers, simply anticipate good conversation where all

opinions are respected. Costs for food and beverage are

on your own. The first few weeks we’ll plan on

Chili’s and QDOBA and then have the group

make suggestions for subsequent weeks.

All are, of course, welcomed.

Celebration of Holy Baptism

L: We gather at these living waters. Throughout history, God’s saving action toward God’s people has taken place

through water. Let us pray:

Most Holy God, you created the seas, rivers, and lakes; you saved Noah and his family from the floods;

you led the Israelites through the Red Sea and quenched their thirst with water flowing from a rock.

Through the waters of the Jordan River, you proclaimed Jesus your own beloved son and so through these

waters of baptism, you proclaim that we, too, are your own beloved children, now and forever. Amen.

L: Parents, do you wish Alice/Aven to be baptized into the promises of God? R: I do.

L: People of God, do you promise to support Alice/Aven as she continues her journey of faith? C: We do.

We make promises and assume responsibilities at baptism. God promises us unconditional love and life

forever, and we know that our journey of faith encompasses certain promises so that our lives reflect this love.

Parents, do you promise to:

live with her among God’s faithful people, bring her to the Lord’s table, teach her the Lord’s Prayer, the

Creed, and the Ten Commandments, place the holy scriptures in her hands to nurture her faith and prayer

life, so that she may know and trust God, encourage her to proclaim Christ in her life, care for others, the

creation that God made, and work for justice and peace? R: I do.

L: Parents, sponsors and people of God, do you promise to support and pray for Alice/Aven in her new life in Christ?

C: We do.

Together we confess our faith in God, who creates, redeems and sustains us.

Do you believe in God the Father?

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the

virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead.

On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the Father, and

he will come to judge the living and the dead.

Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Baptism: Alice/Aven, Child of God, I baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the

Holy Spirit. Amen.

Prayer: Sustain Alice/Aven with the gift of your Holy Spirit: the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of

counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord, the spirit of joy in your presence, both now and

forever. Amen.

Blessing: Alice/Aven, child of God, you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ

forever. Amen.

L: Let your light so shine before others that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in Heaven.

Let us welcome our new sister in Christ!

C: We welcome you! We promise to walk together on our journey of faith, to participate in God’s

mission of love and reconciliation for all of creation and to praise God with our whole lives. We are One in

Christ! Amen!

L: The peace of the Lord be with you always.

C: And also with you.

After sharing the Peace, please be seated.
