Knowledge, Wisdom and Compassion

Our logo has three beautiful symbols: the books, the sun and the lotus. Books represent Knowledge, the sun dispels the darkness of ignorance signifying Wisdom and the lotus symbolizes the unfolding of spirituality representing Compassion. From books, we gain knowledge and when properly directed knowledge ripens into Wisdom. This Wisdom leads to compassion. This is the path towards Enlightenment.

EXCELLENCE IS THE KEY

The V.S.V.Vidyaa Mandir, a benevolent charitable trust performed a great feat in founding an educational institution for higher learning, ‘Sree Saraswathi Thyagaraja College’, on 22nd October 1997 to meet the demanding educational needs of the rural youth in and around Pollachi at an affordable cost.

The trust was formed by three great visionaries belonging to three Philanthropic families – Thiru. P. M. Thiyagarajan (late), Smt. T. Saraswathi, Thiru. M. K. Arumugam (late), Smt. A. Mahalakshmi (late) and Thiru D. Sivaraman (late), and Smt. Vasantham Sivaraman (late). Right from its inception, the Institution has been ably managed by the highly enterprising, dynamic and service minded business titans, Thiru. T. Sethupati, Thiru. M. A. Vijayamoghan, and Thiru. S. Venkkatesh, who are the beloved sons of the founders of the institution. Dr. M. Settu (late), a brilliant, dynamic and versatile member of the Management 2

Page 40: 2018-19stc.ac.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/CALENDAR_2018_19.pdf5. MOU with Infosys BPO Limited, Bangalore was signed on July 2015 at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore for conducting

focuses on measuring student performance through outcomes. Outcomes include knowledge, skills and attitudes. Its focus remains on evaluation of outcomes of the program by stating the knowledge, skill and behavior a graduate is expected to attain upon completion of a program and after 3 – 5 years of graduation. In the OBE model, the required knowledge and skill sets for a particular degree is predetermined and the students are evaluated for all the required parameters (Outcomes) during the course of the program.

“Swayam” is a programme initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. Marks for internal assessment is computed based on the marks secured by the student, in Cycle Tests I and II, Model Examinations and Assignment / Seminar, following the norms stipulated by the Bharathiar University or the college. In pursuance of its Action Plan for performance evaluation, assessment and accreditation and quality up-gradation of institutions of higher education, the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangalore, proposes that every accredited institution should establish an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) as a post-accreditation quality sustenance measure.

Centre for Research and Development“ Learn to Think --------> Think to Learn --------> Learn to Learn”

To realize the mission of achieving national and international recognition in the field of education, STC focuses on research as the critical futuristic endeavour. To give research an impetus in the institution an exclusive Centre was established in 2010, called Centre for Research and Development (CRD). The prime objective of CRD is to create a research ambience and culture by promoting research activities among the faculty members and students. Research activities of CRD subsume sponsored research projects, publications in refereed journals, research consultancy and trainings, Faculty research seminars as well as working paper series. It functions as a catalyst in imbibing cutting edge research ideas and methods among the faculty members and students in the institution. Research Scholars forum is being promoted to create a platform for research scholars and students to have panel discussions on current research issues.

CRD has successfully completed 67 sponsored research projects and submitted 47 research project proposals to various donor agencies such as NCW, ICSSR, NABARD, DST, EDITN and Azim Premji University. Out of this, 3 research projects, two seminars and one competition have been sanctioned and ongoing now. Working paper series has been commissioned and five have been published and three are in pipeline. Research seminar series has been introduced and already 6 have been organized on monthly basis. Coconut and Coir Incubation centre is also planned and documentation work is completed. Centre for Consultancy Services is also initiated and we signed an MoU with V-Alienz company from Coimbatore.
