Application Review

Northern Illinois University does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, marital status, national origin, disability, or status as a disabled veteran or Vietnam-era veteran, or any other factor unrelated to professional qualifications, in its admission procedures and in access to its programs. However, factors such as academic record, test scores, special talents or abilities, likelihood of success at NIU, personal character, and references may be taken into account in the admission process. Applicants will be considered for admission as long as space is available. To maintain the quality of academic programs, the number of freshman and transfer students admitted each semester will be determined by the level of university resources available. Northern Illinois University seeks a diverse student body to reflect the population base of the state, and consideration will be given to this factor in its admission practices. Applicants who meet admission criteria will be notified of an admission decision as soon as possible following the completion of their application file.
