2019 Global Open Presenting the best of Kukkiwon Hanmadang and WT Sparring
Opening Address
Dear Colleagues, Last year, Global open had an overwhelming success and we are continuing the momentum this year. This is an open invitation to the 2019 Global Open and once again we will host the event at the beautiful Dennis Wicker Civic Center in Sanford, North Carolina, on Saturday, May 4, 2019.
Unlike any other Tae Kwon-Do event, Global Open brings the best of Kukkiwon Hanmadang and WT Sparring. The Tae Kwon-Do Hanmadang has been the most prestigious Tae Kwon-Do martial art event in South Korea and I am proud to present the concept to our region in the USA for the second time in a row.
Hanmadang competition, which incorporates all of the following aspects of Tae Kwon-Do training; Individual Traditional Forms Individual Creative Forms Team Traditional Forms Team Creative forms Team Demonstration Martial arts weapons form Breaking skills for Power, Speed, Jump and other creative ways
Although Hanmadang does not include sparring, we will still be holding a sparring portion of the competition.
As an Olympic sport, Tae Kwon-Do has grown in popularity throughout the world. However, not all have Olympic aspirations.
The vast majority of Tae Kwon-Do students train for confidence, discipline, respect, and personal improvement. Many do not enjoy sparring because of the combat nature; that is why Hanmadang provides an excellent avenue for people to enjoy. Regardless, our sparring portion will not be overshadowed. Last year, we used old school sparring rules with dynamic skills application and the response was only positive. Therefore, we decided to continue with the endeavor again this year.
Best of luck to everyone!
