Dr. Gary Glassman is DC Institute’s Faculty Chair and Chief Dental Officer at dentalcorp. A global lecturer on endodontics, Dr. Glassman is on staff at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry and is Adjunct Professor of Dentistry and Director of Endodontic Programming for the University of Technology in Kingston, Jamaica. The author of numerous publications, Dr. Glassman is the endodontic editor for Oral Health Journal.

DR. SAM DAHEROrthodontics

Dr. Sam Daher is a certified orthodontist specializing in orthodontics and dentofacial orthopedics – combining orthodontic treatments with preventive and maintenance models. He is a keynote speaker for Align Technology and operates six practices across the country. A bilingual speaker of English and French, Dr. Daher earned his Doctor of Dentistry (DDS) degree from McGill University and his specialty degree in orthodontics (MSc) from the Université de Montréal.

DR. DAVIDE AMATO Comprehensive Dentistry

Dr. Davide Amato is passionate about learning and attending a wide range of continuing education courses to ensure the newest techniques and advancements are offered in the six dental practices he operates across Ontario. Some of his areas of study include endodontics, oral surgery, implants, cosmetic services, oral sedation, IV sedation, tissue grafting and periodontal surgery.

DR. MARK COHEN Oral Surgery

Dr. Mark Cohen performs the full scope of oral and maxillofacialsurgery, and is an internationally recognized specialist in the placement of dental implants, having placed over 6,000 dental implants in his career. He is an Associate Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Manitoba, has published numerous scientific papers dealing with traumatic injuries and pathological conditions of the jaw, and has been an examiner and senior examiner in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for the Royal College of Dentists of Canada.

DR. PAUL JANG Periodontics

Dr. Paul Jang is an expert in periodontics, and the founder and director of the Northwest Dental Study Club where he mentors and trains dentists from all over the world. Dr. Jang maintains a private practice specializing in all aspects of periodontal therapy with a strong emphasis in dental implant surgery and bone and soft tissue grafting. He has conducted research on implant surgery, bone regeneration and the effect of HIV infection on oral health. Dr. Jang is also the Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontics and Implant Surgery at the University of British Columbia, Faculty of Dentistry.

DR. BRUCE V. FREEMANPatient Experience

Dr. Bruce Freeman is an international lecturer on the topics of clinical orthodontics, virtual surgical planning and facial pain disorders. He maintains a private orthodontic practice in Toronto with an emphasis on pre-prosthetic and surgical care. Dr. Freeman is an Associate in Dentistry at the University of Toronto and co-directs the Facial Pain Unit in the Department of Dentistry at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto, where he also participates in research endeavors.

DR. EDWARD GELFANDComprehensive Dentistry

Dr. Edward Gelfand was appointed as a DC Institute Faculty member, and an Advisory member in 2016. He has dedicated his career to learning and implementing new skills to enhance people’s lives both aesthetically and functionally. Dr. Gelfand operates more than 20 practices across Southwestern Ontario where his patients have access to a wide range of comprehensive services, including: Invisalign®, neuromuscular dentistry, TMJ therapy and full mouth implant reconstruction.

DR. EFFRAT HABSHADr. Effrat Habsha earned her Bachelor of Science degree, DDS, Diploma in Prosthodontics and Master of Science degree from the University of Toronto. Along with her work at her private prosthodontics and implant dentistry practice in Toronto, Dr. Habsha teaches undergraduate and graduate level prosthodontics at the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry.

DR. DENNIS MARANGOSDr. Marangos is a graduate of the University of Toronto, Faculty of Dentistry, 1986. He completed a General Practice Residency at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto in 1987. He maintains a private practice in Toronto with emphasis on aesthetic and restorative dentistry and orthodontics. He is the principal doctor at the Yorkville TMJ Centre, a practice that focuses on the management of head, neck and TMJ related pain, as well as treating patients diagnosed with sleep disordered breathing.

DR. HAGEN KLIEBDr. Klieb is an oral pathologist and staff clinician at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, with cross appointments to the departments of Dentistry and Anatomic Pathology. He is active in post-graduate dental and medical education, research, and is also a specialty license examiner.

DR. PETER TAOral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Ta is an active hospital staff member at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and Trillium Health Partners, and a clinical instructor at the University of Toronto in the discipline of Oral Surgery.

Orthodontic Retention and Stability: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The three major goals of orthodontic treatment are ideal function, ideal esthetics, and stability of results. The challenge of retaining orthodontic results and ensuring long term stability remains the biggest challenge to every dentist and orthodontist. This lecture will provide the practitioner with evidence-based clinical information used to inform clinical decisions during treatment planning and retention. This evidence-based lecture will be on both short-term and long-term orthodontic treatment stability.

Digital Dentistry in Contemporary Prosthodontics: Is it Practical?

Digital technology has had a dramatic impact on all disciplines of dentistry, particularly in the fields of prosthodontics and surgery. The evolution of digital technologies has provided dental professionals with the possibility of following a completely digital workflow, beginning from diagnostic treatment planning to prosthesis fabrication. Clinical data acquisition using intraoral scanners has bridged the digital gap between the clinical practice and the dental laboratory. While these latest digital tools offer new and different workflows compared to conventional techniques, it is imperative that clinical efficiency and restoration accuracy are not compromised. This presentation will provide a practical and pragmatic overview of the digital tools and technologies used in a modern prosthodontic practice. The use of intraoral scanners and the workflow required for simple reconstructions to comprehensive full arch rehabilitations will be presented, in both conventional and implant-based applications. The focus of this hands-on program is to provide the general practitioner with key insights in achieving predictable, esthetic outcomes with porcelain veneers.
