Canterbury Park 2018 Racing Season OverviewOn behalf of Management I’d like to welcome you to the 24th racing season in Canterbury Park history. We’re proud of what we have to offer horsemen and for those of you that have been with us before – we look forward to seeing you again. If you are new and participating in our racing program for the first time – it is truly our pleasure to have you with us. In June 2012 we signed a historic 10-year, $75 million purse enhancement agreement with the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community. Here are some of the recent highlights of this agreement:

» In 2018 we anticipate paying over $15 million in purse money for the first time in our history! As such, we anticipate our Average Daily Purse distribution to surpass $215,000, a new record.

» Total handle has soared. Since 2010, Canterbury Park handle is up over 85%. As a result of this growth, Canterbury Park’s visibility is as high as ever.

» Our on-track attendance is one of the strongest, youngest and most enthusiastic in the country. In 2017 we averaged more than 6,500 people per day and we have several new promotions that we plan to roll out in 2018 to further increase these numbers. In 2018, we look to improve upon changes made in 2017 with some new twists:

Live racing will again begin on Kentucky Oaks Day - Friday, May 4. We hope that starting earlier and extending the meet by nearly a month continues to better fit the shipping schedules and racing needs of many Midwest horsepeople. Additionally, we are looking forward to opening the meet in style and with excitement as we will again host live racing on Kentucky Derby Day.

Secondly, we are proud to offer a $150,0000 shipping bonus program in 2018. This program will attempt to improve upon the 2017 version by offering larger bonuses early in the meet and providing trainer incentives in addition to the owner incentives. More information on this program can be found on page 24.

Lastly, in the fall of 2017, Canterbury Park management worked extensively with Michael Heuer at Braun Intertec to more precisely identify the racetrack composition used in the 1980s and 1990s. Mr. Heuer was extensively involved in the engineering of the main track under Joe King. Through this process, we have identified the precise nature of the material necessary to bring the track back to its original composition. Local material has been secured and will be added to the track by Ken Brown and his staff prior to the commencement of training in the Spring of 2018. If there is anything I can do to assist you, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I very much look forward to Canterbury Park’s 2018 Racing Season and I hope you do as well.

Preference Date System1. Preference dates will not supersede conditions of a race.

2. All horses registered prior to 4:00pm, Monday, April 30, 2018 will receive a zero which is the lowest possible date. A horse keeps a zero until he/she runs or scratches or the papers are removed from the Racing Office.

3. All horses registering after Monday, April 30 will receive an “E” date corresponding to the racing day of the meeting when registered.

4. Preference dates are good for any type of race or distance with the exception of stakes and trials. Horses starting in stake races and trials will retain their previous date.

5. Horses without papers on file in the Racing Office will receive no preference.

6. Horses that run will receive an “R” date corresponding to the date they race and lose all dates previously held. Should a horse be registered, or come off a list on a non-racing day, the next racing day will be used as the preference date.

7. When a turf race is removed from the turf, all horses that run on the main track retain their previ-ously held preference date.

8. Horses that are scratched will receive an “S” date corresponding to the race date they scratch.

9. A zero has first preference and an “E” date takes preference over an “R” date of the same day. An “R” date takes preference over an “S” date of the same day.

10. Horses that establish an “E” date will keep their date until drawing into the body of the race, at which point they will receive an “R” date. Horses which make the body of a race at another racetrack after receiving an “E” date will forfeit any date they have established at Canterbury Park.

11. In an effort to ensure that racing fans will have an opportunity to wager on a reasonable number of horses, the following policies are in place concerning turf entries:

Entries will be accepted in turf races for Main Track Only horses (main track only entries). Trainers must declare MTO at time of entry. A MTO entry has no preference to draw into a turf race as a starter and will be carded as an also-eligible at all times even if the race doesn’t overfill. A maximum of two MTO entries will be drawn as also eligibles in overfilled turf races. MTO entries will draw a post position in both stakes and overnight races, unless least preferred.

In overfilled turf races, MTO also-eligibles will have first preference to draw into the race in order of their date preference. In-Today horses re-entering as MTO entries shall only be allowed to do so if originally entered as an MTO or also-eligible. If the race remains on the turf, MTO entries, regard-less of whether the race is overfilled or not, will not be eligible to start. When a race is removed from the turf, MTO horses will receive a date if they run or scratch. If the race remains on the turf, MTO horses will retain their previous date.

Scratch time for turf is 8:30am the day of the race for day cards and 11:00am the day of the race for night cards.

12. All horses placed on the Stewards’, Starter’s or Veterinarian’s list will be posted in the office. They will not be permitted to enter until they have been approved to start with exception of horses awaiting a test result from an official timed workout who will be allowed to enter but shall be least preferred. A horse which ran before going on a list will keep its running date. Horses which were scratched will be given a running date of the day the horse comes off the list.

13. Horses which have established a date at the current meeting will lose their preference should their papers be withdrawn from the Racing Office or demonstrate intent to race elsewhere and must reestablish a preference date at this meeting.

14. In no way does the claiming, tattooing, corrections, ownership transfer or trainer transfer of a horse affect the preference date.

15. When a horse’s name appears in a race, other than a stake or trial, and is entered for the fol-lowing day, the entry will be given no consideration should the race in which it is entered overfill.

16. Preference lists will be posted daily and is official unless a claim of error is made by horsemen.

17. It is the responsibility of a person making an entry to claim preference at time of entry. The stewards will consider no claims that do not comply with the above regulations.

16

Entry RulesHorses penalized in a race shall not be entitled to any of the allowances in such a race. Horses not entitled to first allowance in a race are not entitled to the second, and if not to the second, then to no subsequent allowances.

Owners and trainers must be careful to claim allowances at the time of entry as well as state penalties and are solely responsible if a horse starts with the wrong weight thereby causing a disqualification.

Owners and trainers must be careful to opt to declare a horse ineligible to be claimed (Waiver Claiming Rule) based on MRC 7883.0140 at the time of entry as this may not be remedied following entries. To meet these conditions, the horse must: 1) have been laid off for a period of 120 days or more; 2) have last been an official starter in a claiming race from which it was eligible to be claimed; and 3) must be entered today for a claiming price equal to or greater than at which it last started.

Management, through contractual agreement with the Minnesota HBPA, reserves the right to call off any overnight race with less than eight interests.

Canterbury Park reserves the right to cancel any stake or other race prior to the actual running thereof - without liability - except for the return of nomination and entry fees paid.

All ownerships in a horse shall be filed with the Racing Secretary before the horse shall start.

Horses without papers on file in the Racing Office will not be given consideration for preference.

No more than three horses of the same interest shall be entered in any purse or overnight event. The second or third trainer entry with a different owner has the same preference as a single owner entry.

In all races, winners are preferred, except where conditions of the race state oth-erwise.

Uncoupled EntriesAll horses owned wholly or in part by the same person, or his or her spouse, shall be coupled and run as an entry. However, the association may uncouple entries in any race with the permission of the stewards.

In stake races, high weights will be preferred, winners preferred. Sex allowance in races with male horses is considered. Horses not drawing a starting position in the gate will receive a refund of entry fee.

Allowance Optional Claiming RacesIn specified Allowance/Optional Claiming races, horses may be entered if they are eligible for the allowance condition, or for the specified Claiming Price. In the conditions, the clause “...Races Not Considered” shall apply both to eligibility and allowances.

17

Naming of JockeysAny authorized person entering a horse in any given race shall at the time of making such an entry name the jockey for said horse.

Trainers must have an apprentice jockey engaged before claiming the apprentice allowance.

Apprentice allowances waived at the draw cannot be reclaimed.

Should a jockey remain unnamed at the time of the drawing of entries, the Stewards or their appointees shall select one. No jockey, once named, shall be changed except for good cause by the Stewards.

Jockeys having engagements to ride must be in the scale room one hour before post time. After making weights, jockeys must not leave the jockey room until all engagements for the day have been filled.

Jockeys are positively forbidden in the betting enclosure from one hour prior to post time for the first race. Those who violate this rule may be fined, suspended or ruled off.

Any jockey taken off mounts due to illness or injury is not eligible to be named on horses until cleared by the Track Paramedic who will notify the Stewards.

A jockey engaged to ride any horse is bound to fulfill his/her engagement unless excused by the Stewards. Should a rider become injured or ill on the way to the post or at the gate and the Stewards designate a substitute rider, such rider will fulfill the order of the Stewards and complete the engagement on the horse.

Winners PreferredIn all races written for winners, including stakes races, winners shall be preferred. Races written for lifetime conditions, such as non-winners of three or four races, multiple winners most closely matching the condition shall be preferred.

Transfer of Horse on the GroundsThe purchase, claim or transfer of any horse on the grounds at Canterbury Park - whether by private sale, claiming, or public auction - does not guarantee the new owner a stall for said horse. The management of Canterbury Park reserves the right to allocate stalls.

Horses will be permitted to start only upon producing a certificate of registration from the Jockey Club showing colors and markings to correspond and having the necessary lip tattoo.

All horses coming to the track must have listed on their Jockey Club registration certificate all transfers of ownerships. No horse will be permitted to start without such accurate and complete record. This rule is for your protection. Be sure your papers are up-to-date.

18

Minnesota-bred Conditions and Claiming PricesIn allowance races that are written for N2X MCS or N3X MCS or state bred; state bred wins will not count for eligibility. Additionally, in open company races, Minnesota-breds will enter for a higher claiming price. For example:

Open Company Claiming Price Minnesota-bred Claiming Price$50,000 $75,000$35,000 $50,000$25,000 $40,000$20,000 $30,000$16,000 $25,000$12,500 $20,000$10,000 $15,000$7,500 $12,500$6,250 $10,000$5,000 $7,500$4,000 $6,250

(As a general policy, the Commission Veterinarians ask that thoroughbreds work no less than five furlongs and Quarter Horses no less than 220 yards).

5. First-time starters must have gate approval and a minimum of two timed workouts, one of which must be out of the gate, no more than 60 days prior to the race in which it is entered.

Canterbury Park $150,000 Starter Incentive ProgramCanterbury Park’s 2018 starter incentive program, run in partnership with the Minnesota H.B.P.A., is designed to reward owners who bring new and race-ready thoroughbreds to Canterbury Park in 2018. New in 2018, a bonus will be provided for Minnesota-breds who are race-ready upon the start of the 2018 Racing Season.

An open thoroughbred* making its first lifetime start at Canterbury Park and a Minnesota-bred* in its first start during the 2018 meet at Canterbury Park shall be eligible for a one-time bonus during the 2018 Live Racing Season at Canterbury Park.

In order to be eligible for the 2018 Canterbury Park Starter Incentive program, the thoroughbred must fit the following criteria:

• The horse must have made its most recent start after January 1, 2018.

• If its last start was in a claiming race, the horse must have started for a claiming price of $3,000 or more.

• In order to be eligible for Canterbury’s 2018 Starter Incentive Program, the trainer of the horse must have stalls assigned at Canterbury Park before the beginning of the 2018 racing season.

• First-time starters and horses that have previously competed at Canterbury Park, except for Minnesota-breds fitting the first three criteria above, are not eligible for the Canterbury 2018 Starter Incentive Program.

Canterbury Park’s 2018 New Starter Incentive shall be paid out as follows:

• $750 Bonus ($600 to Owner & $150 to Trainer) if the thoroughbred makes its first start at Canterbury Park from May 4 – May 12

• $500 Bonus ($400 to Owner & $100 to Trainer) if the thoroughbred makes its first start at Canterbury Park from May 18 – May 28

• $250 Bonus ($200 to Owner & $50 to Trainer) if the thoroughbred makes its first start at Canterbury on or after June 1

Shipping incentives from this program will be paid, a maximum of one bonus per horse, until the exhaustion of the $150,000. The Canterbury Park Racing Office will produce records each week so that owners and trainers can fully understand the current expenditures from this fund.

Canterbury Park Entertainment LLC reserves all rights associated with determining eligibility and payouts for both shipping programs. Please contact Andrew Offerman (952)-233-4838 to verify eligibility for either program and to answer any questions about their terms or conditions.
