Welcome to the 8th annual Arts by the Sea, an inspirational and diverse arts festival, featuring over 100 unique, thought-provoking performances, installations and artistic endeavours taking place in various locations across Bournemouth, between Saturday 29th September and Saturday 6th October 2018.
Expect first-time projection mapping on the Town Hall, wandering street theatre acts, rousing international musical performances, award-winning comedy, mesmerising walkabout puppets, quick witted poetry, film screenings from Bournemouth University, and a remarkable night-time carnival parade. We believe more than any previous years the festival contains something for every member of the family, providing art that is fun for everyone, a true carnivalesque celebration of culture accessible to all.
Many of our events are free to attend and take place in

SILICON SHORES BY THE COLOUR PROJECT
SATURDAY 29TH SEPTEMBER TOWN HALL: 20:00 | 21:00 | 22:00 SUNDAY 30TH SEPTEMBER TOWN HALL: 20:00 | 20:40 | 21:30
The internationally acclaimed Colour Project is set to bring Bournemouth Town Hall to life like never before, with a colossal projection mapping show which will feature design contributions from pupils at Glenmoor and Winton Academy. ‘Silicon Shores’ will reference the influence of digital technology and social media through the unlikely prism of the ocean, turning the concept of ‘surfing the web’ on its head. The ten-minute experience will draw parallels between undersea submersion and the all-encompassing nature of online space. Both dystopian and playful themes will be conveyed through a ten-minute audio-
visual experience, featuring everything from robotic sea creatures to digital junkyards lurking in the ocean. Watch out for a shape-shifting octopus, whose changing skins were designed by local young people as part of the festival’s annual engagement programme.
The projection show will be a completely unique premiere for the 2018 event, which uses the architecture of Bournemouth’s historic Town Hall building as a canvas for an unforgettable digital spectacular.

This year he is exploring a new concept installation ‘PRISM’. This artwork draws upon digital, kinetic and weather-powered technology and some pilot activity will be showcased at the 2018 festival. Check our website for more information.
