PIUG 2018 Annual Business MeetingSunday 6 May 2018 57
PPO Committee Objectives –Why was it formed?
• Combine the activities of the formerly dormant “Patent Offices Committee” with several outreach activities from other organizations like PDG, CEPIUG, LES, AIIP, etc. and the more recent collaborations with IPPH (Intellectual Property Publishing House), a division of the SIPO (State Intellectual Property Office) of China, KIPI/KIPO (Korean Patent Office) and JAPIO (Japanese Patent Information Organization)
• Operate synergistically to cover many areas of common ground in relationships with other user groups and with the various international patent offices.
PIUG 2018 Annual Business MeetingSunday 6 May 2018 58
• Enhance PIUG's outreach internationally, and potentially grow PIUG membership in non-US countries, especially in “emerging” countries like China, India, etc., thus ensure continued growth and viability of PIUG.
• Strengthen relationships with major patenting offices (WIPO, EPO, USPTO) through interactions with these patent offices' affiliated organizations like PDG, CEPIUG, and hopefully expand relationships with other major patenting authorities in Asia Pacific and Latin America.
• Ensure continuity of agreements/partnership activities and provide stability of existing relationships - A step towards establishing some ‘consistency’ and continuity of partnership-building agreements & activities (e.g., with PDG, CEPIUG, IPPH), thus eliminating reliance on the decisions made by the ‘sitting’ PIUG Board which changes every few years.
