Introduction

The „Veloclub Reinach” (VCR) was founded in 1982 by a few cycling enthusiasts. Already in 1990 the

club started to support the new discipline of Mountain biking long before other clubs did.

From 1986 to 1996 the VCR successfully organized National Kriterium-roadraces. In 1996 the first edition of a national cross country mountainbike race was held in Reinach. Since then the club has

organized races at a national level in the Swiss national Crosscountry Mountainbike series.

In 2007 the event moved from Reinach to the “Schänzli” Hippodrome right opposite the FC Basel

Stadium “St. Jakob”. Over the years the event has grown to become one of the biggest cycling events

in Switzerland. Along with the XC-Races a wide variety of other disciplines including Dirtbike, Pumptrack, and Minidrome will take place in front of more than 10’000 spectators.

In 2014 a limited company (IG Radsportförderung Nordwestschweiz GmbH) was founded to provide an

economic framework to the growing event and to improve the organization.

It has always been the organisers’ main goal to bring together the best riders and the best crowds, and

to put the event on an economically solid footing thereby securing the event’s ongoing story of success.

With all this success and the experience gained we look forward to organising an outstanding ‘Hors-

Class’ MTB Race.

Closing Statements Bikefestival-Basel is providing one of the biggest bike events in Switzerland. We’ve already organized

21 MTB XC races in the past, including 9 final races. The riders like the interesting race course and of

course the proximity to the crowd in the unique atmosphere of the Bike arena.

René Schenker, former President

“To have a race in a stadium is just great! For us as riders we can be as close to the spectators as

possible and the Fans they can see our technical skills on a "small" place! The organizer has a lot of

experience and so everything works perfect! During these two days the horse area changes to a Bike

specatacle which you have to see!”

Katrin Leumann, Swiss National Champion 2013 XCO
