FRIDAY 21ST September END OF TERM 3 2.30PM DISMISSAL
Dear School Community,
G’day to the Coburg West Primary School Community. I just thought I would fill you in as to the
whereabouts of Mr. Colagrande. Mr. Colagrande has visited many of the iconic landmarks in Europe.
It seems from photos he has been enjoying basking in the sun on some very famous beaches, relaxing
and catching up on the happenings at Coburg West PS.
Term 3 at Coburg West PS has been nothing but busy. Our students have taken part in the National
Tree Day planting their own saplings which they have taken home to plant in their own gardens.
2018 TERM DATES Term 1 Wednesday 31st January – Thursday 29th March
Term 2 Monday 16th April – Friday 29th June
Term 3 Monday 16th July – Friday 21st September
Term 4 Monday 8th October – Friday 21st December
Learning about the importance of our world and how to look after it was the focus of these sessions.
Thanks to all the staff for making this a rich learning experience for our students.
All of the Grade 3-6 students took part in athletic trials which resulted in some students being
selected to represent the school at a district level. It was exciting to hear that all students
participated and encouraged one another to do their best.
Our Prep students celebrated a momentous milestone by acknowledging their first 100 days at
school. Thanks to all the parents/carers who attended the picnic on Friday. It is wonderful to see our
Prep students attend school every day with smiles on their faces, a positive mind set and a readiness
to learn.
The Family Maths night was well attended. I was in awe of how many parent/carers attended the
Family Maths Night with their child/children to spend valuable time learning about how much fun
maths can be. Embracing these opportunities with your children is important and remember that
‘Families who play together, stay together.’
I was overwhelmed with the level of interest illustrated by a group of students in Grade 3/4 who are
keen to beautify our school by adding bird feeders, signs and plants. The students have named their
new area ‘The Bird Garden.’ It is located at the front of the school, across from the Prep/Grade1
Playground. Keep an eye on this space and watch it grow and change as various items will be added
overtime by the students.
Last but not least, I would like to acknowledge every one of our parents/carers who attended and
took part in the Shore Reserve footy fundraiser. I would personally like to thank the stream of
parents/carers led by Christine Doolan and Heather McGiddy, who volunteered their time to make
this day such a huge success. Coburg West PS may not have won with goals on the scoreboard, but I
truly believe we succeeded in demonstrating true community spirit. The stories that I heard from
parents, students and teachers reminded me of the famous words of Helen Keller which are, ‘alone
we can do so little, together we can do so much.’
Well done and thank you CWPS Community.
Carmel Lancuba Acting Principal
The wearing of a school uniform creates a sense of collective and individual pride in our school
as well as giving our students a sense of belonging. I have noticed that some students are not
wearing the correct uniform to school.
Please ensure full school uniform is worn every day. If you have any queries about this please
contact Carmel Lancuba, Acting Principal, on 9386 1286.

The Program for the day will be as follows:

We hope you enjoy our Science Week program
It has been wonderful to see so many Coburg West students taking part in the Reading Challenge this year. Congratulations and well done to all of the students who are participating. We already have many students who have finished the Challenge. A fantastic effort! Coburg West Students involved in the Premiers’ Reading Challenge need to have completed the challenge by Friday, 24th August 2018. Please encourage your children to keep reading to ensure they finish the Reading Challenge and enter all of the books they have read on their home page by this date.
