• MC to introduce herself • Acknowledgement to Country • It is my pleasure to welcome you all to the University of

South Australia’s University Staff Service Awards for 25 & 40 year recipients.

• In so doing, I take this opportunity to acknowledge that this land we meet on today is the traditional lands for Kaurna people and that we respect their spiritual relationship with their country. We acknowledge the Kaurna people as the custodians of the Adelaide region and that their cultural and heritage beliefs are still as important to the living Kaurna people today. “We also acknowledge the generosity of alumnus Andrew Pridham, benefactor of Pridham Hall.”

• Good morning

• Today we’re celebrating longevity, loyalty and probably

even perseverance by recognising some special members

of staff who have been hard at work for UniSA for the

past 25 and up to 40 years.

• The men and women in this room helped build our

success as a university.

• Many began in our earliest years as a university and

• quite a few followed our progression to university status

from the Colleges of Advanced Education and the

Institute of Technology.

• They remember the good old days as they enjoy the

rewards of the good new days.

• They are great corporate historians;

• They remember all sorts of fun facts about people who

have gone before them;

• and they often have sharp institutional memories.

• They will often very helpfully tell you that whatever new

idea we want to try has been tried before.

• But the fact that they are still here 25 and 40 years later

is proof that this institution continues to grow and

provide opportunities for its people.

• The people who are being celebrated today are a litmus

test of our continued growth.

• They are proof that our workload is sustainable over the

long term and that we have created and have continued to

nourish a collaborative team culture.

• As you will all know UniSA is about to undergo

significant changes.

• Enterprise25 places People, Programs and Precincts at

the heart of the university’s operations out to 2025.

• Although our initial focus is on creating a new structure

for our programs and academic enterpriser, which you

are all aware of,

• Our next focus in Enterprise25 is on our people.

• Our success has been built upon teams of excellent and

inspiring people;

• people who are dedicated to the highest standards of

education and who conduct research with creativity and

curiosity;

• people who appreciate what students want and who

support them to achieve it;

• people who support the academic enterprise with the best

of their professional services;

• and the people who make possible the partnerships and

meaningful end-user engagement that prepares graduates

with real-world knowledge to take into their future

careers.

• We only want great people at UniSA.

• And people who have clocked up 25 or 40 years of

service is a good indication that we know how to choose

good people, and keep them.

• I think the people here this morning embody all the

qualities we look for.

• Attributes that are so important to us as an institution that

they have become the core attributes of a UniSA staffer.

• In case you’ve missed all the posters around our offices,

those attributes are that UniSA staffers must:

o be trusted, authentic and self-aware;

o take the initiative and deliver results;

o provide solutions;

o communicate with impact; and

o lead and work well with others.

• The people in this room have committed to providing all

that we ask.

• And we have maintained the kind of dynamic culture that

rewards them.

• We’re heading into our 29th year as one of the world’s

best new universities;

• regularly ranked in the top 50 of universities under 50

years old.

• We are Australia’s University of Enterprise focused on

educating problem solving, globally employable

graduates.

• And researching collaboratively on issues of great

importance to our society and our economy.

• And almost 29 years in we’re still growing, creating

value and sharing that value creation with our staff.

• And those of you who feel you have another 25 years, or

40 years to devote to the cause, stick around.

• We’ve only just started.

• I’m going to show you a video now of the University that

you have helped to create, then Jane will start handing

out the awards.
