New Philharmonic: A Salute to FridaKirk Muspratt, Music Director and Conductor$51Celebrate the heritage of Frida Kahlo through the rhythm and sounds of Mexico, in anticipation of the major exhibit of her works to be held right here at the MAC summer 2020. Selection of works by Mexican born composers include Agustín Lara’s Granada and Manuel de Zumaya’s Como Aunque Culpa, Márquez’s Danzon and Silvestre Revueltas Sanchez’ Noche de Encantamiento. Concluding the evening will be Argentine-born film composer Luis Bacalov’s Misa Tango which sets the traditional mass to the dance rhythms of the tango and features a 100-voice chorus.

June 17 - Sept. 13José Guadalupe Posada’s images captured all aspects of daily life in Mexico City from 1889-1913, directly inspiring artists like Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and José Clemente Orozco. Now, over one hundred years later, he continues to impact countless artists creating today’s social movement imagery.
