Perceptions

Perceptions Summary

The EWIS mission is to provide each student with high levels of learning in a culture of collaboration and respect between students, faculty, staff, and parents. We are committed to a culture that nurtures students and fosters life-long learners. The importance of keepingstudents in school and helping them to be successful academically is supported by implementing growth mindset strategies, combined withsocial-emotional learning lessons, as well as tutorial programs and the after school ACE program.

Maintaining an average daily attendance rate of 97.14% or above is on the top of this list for promoting a culture of learning. Students arerewarded each six weeks for perfect attendance and calls are made to parents when students are absent. A class attendance competition isheld each six weeks between each grade level.

The school district and community of Groesbeck maintain a strong, symbiotic, and supportive relationship. According to information wehave received from sign-in sheets the past school year, 60% of all parents/families of EWIS students attend activities that we have oncampus. However, many parents still struggle with helping their students academically. When contacted, parents are supportive of theirstudents and our school. Every three years, community members take part in Career Day. Students participate in on-going career andcollege readiness activities. The local police department is actively involved in the planning and the execution of safety procedures anddrills. Businesses in the community have a partnership with our campus for positive student recognition.

Perceptions Strengths

Parent involvement in activities at EWIS has increased over the past year due to an increase in parent communication through social mediaby the principal, assistant principal, counselor and faculty. Parent Nights, ACE Family Nights, student performances, Turkey Bingo, theFather-Daughter dance, the Mother-Son Game Night, and public meetings are well attended. EWIS communicates with parents throughvarious means including letters, weekly newsletters, Remind text messages, phone calls, emails, GISD and EWIS website, the localnewspaper, EWIS Facebook page, and parent conferences.

Campus award ceremonies are held that recognize student achievements and accomplishments. The principal and counselor provide variedinformation to parents to help them make informed decisions regarding their children. This information includes everything from charactereducation, to homework help, to parenting skills. We also use our parent volunteers to help with various classroom activities.
