United Way of Metropolitan Dallas treats 360 degrees of need. We tackle complex social problems by surrounding North Texas with programs that make real progress in the areas of Education, Income and Health: the essential components of a thriving community. By 2020, we'll move 250,000 North Texans out of poverty, give thousands the tools to lead healthy, productive lives and ensure that 60% of students graduate with the skills to succeed in whatever comes next. We only invest in our local area and have been a trusted community partner for over 90 years. With your support, we can lift up those in need and create hope for a better tomorrow.

Review the Letter of Intent(LOI)

Page 34: 2019-2022 RFP Orientation - Amazon S3 · November 1, 2018 Community Impact Fund RFP Released November 2, 5, & 6, 2018 RFP Orientation Sessions November 30, 2018 Community Impact Fund

The New LOI Process

• Simplifies the application process and the application itself for organizations

• Due to the use of the LOI, UWMD staff are no longer providing formal draft reviews of entire applications

• For reference, we have provided the full application in the RFP that will be done should an application be selected to move on to that stage of the application process

Page 35: 2019-2022 RFP Orientation - Amazon S3 · November 1, 2018 Community Impact Fund RFP Released November 2, 5, & 6, 2018 RFP Orientation Sessions November 30, 2018 Community Impact Fund

UnitedWayDallas.org | @UnitedWayDallasUnitedWayDallas.org | @UnitedWayDallas

One Holistic Application

• One application per agency is allowed

• It is intended for this application to be more holistic and UWMD now does not require you to split up programs into different applications

• Focus on the core areas of your program, that holistically serve the same population

• If you have multiple programs that serve different clients you’ll have to decide which program to apply with

Page 36: 2019-2022 RFP Orientation - Amazon S3 · November 1, 2018 Community Impact Fund RFP Released November 2, 5, & 6, 2018 RFP Orientation Sessions November 30, 2018 Community Impact Fund

UnitedWayDallas.org | @UnitedWayDallasUnitedWayDallas.org | @UnitedWayDallas

One Holistic Application

• If your organization has one program (Program A) then just apply for that program

• If your organization has multiple programs you have to make a choice on which program you will be applying with (Program A, Program B, Program C)

• However, you can now bundle programs or services together if:

• This provides a holistic vision for client/household, and/or

• Greater than 50% of clients/households receive services from the bundled programs

Page 37: 2019-2022 RFP Orientation - Amazon S3 · November 1, 2018 Community Impact Fund RFP Released November 2, 5, & 6, 2018 RFP Orientation Sessions November 30, 2018 Community Impact Fund

UnitedWayDallas.org | @UnitedWayDallasUnitedWayDallas.org | @UnitedWayDallas

One Holistic Application – Real World Example

• Program A is a job training course, Program B is a food pantry, and Program C is a dental care program

• If greater than 50% of clients in the job training course access the food pantry as a form of income support or the food pantry is part of the holistic services provided for clients, then the bundled application can include Program A and Program B

• If greater than 50% of clients in the job training course access the dental program as well or if the dental program provides service that are holistic for the client, then Program C could also be included in the bundled application

Page 38: 2019-2022 RFP Orientation - Amazon S3 · November 1, 2018 Community Impact Fund RFP Released November 2, 5, & 6, 2018 RFP Orientation Sessions November 30, 2018 Community Impact Fund

UnitedWayDallas.org | @UnitedWayDallasUnitedWayDallas.org | @UnitedWayDallas

One Holistic Application – Example continued…

• If the dental program has a substantially different set of clients (less than 50% overlap) and is unrelated to the job training program, then it could not be bundled into the application

• In this case the organization would have to decide to apply for Program A/B or Program C

• If through the application you can make the case that the programs that are bundled together provide a holistic service for clients them you are good to do so. The 50% of clients is a good measure to demonstrate this overlap.

Page 39: 2019-2022 RFP Orientation - Amazon S3 · November 1, 2018 Community Impact Fund RFP Released November 2, 5, & 6, 2018 RFP Orientation Sessions November 30, 2018 Community Impact Fund

UnitedWayDallas.org | @UnitedWayDallasUnitedWayDallas.org | @UnitedWayDallas

One Holistic Application – Other Ways to Think About This

• Another way to think about if you offer holistic programming to clients is by thinking about the client experience once they walk in the door. If a client typically accesses multiple programs as part of their experience then those programs can be bundled.

• Holistic does not need to be limited to “overlapping”, especially in Education services. Programs can scaffold services. An example could be a Pre-K Readiness to Early Literacy to College Readiness. These programs potentially serve the same students over time as a continuum.

Page 40: 2019-2022 RFP Orientation - Amazon S3 · November 1, 2018 Community Impact Fund RFP Released November 2, 5, & 6, 2018 RFP Orientation Sessions November 30, 2018 Community Impact Fund

LOI - Questions

3. Enter the Annual Request Amount

• This needs to be the annual dollar amount. The amount will be the same each year over the course of the three year grant. It is not the aggregate amount.

• There is no minimum or maximum request amount

• You should however, reference the range of current grant awards available on our website here: https://unitedwaydallas.org/about/community-investments/

• As a guideline, UWMD generally does not want to fund more than 50% of a program budget

Page 42: 2019-2022 RFP Orientation - Amazon S3 · November 1, 2018 Community Impact Fund RFP Released November 2, 5, & 6, 2018 RFP Orientation Sessions November 30, 2018 Community Impact Fund

LOI - Questions

4. Select the Strategy/Priority Statement(s) the Program Will Address

• You must select at least one of the Strategy/Priority Statement, but can select multiple as long as your program aligns with those selections

• The selection(s) can stay within an Impact Area (Education, Income, and Health), or the selections can cross over multiple Impact Areas

Celebrated on the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Giving Tuesday is the official beginning of the charitable season and a day where large numbers of people go out of their way to give back to their community.

This year, #GiveBigDFW is the regional campaign for #GivingTuesday, and we need everyone’s help to ensure we keep the title of the Most Generous Community in America and surpass the $20+ million dollars that was raised last year.

Top 5 Reasons to Participate

1. Giving Tuesday is highly motivating for new and engaged donors

2. Funds are transferred to your bank account within 48 hours of donation

3. The platform will be open until December 31, 2018, so take advantage of the platform by utilizing it for your end-of-year giving campaign

4. There will be prizes!

5. Volunteerism is just as important as monetary donations
