PROCRASTINATION

Procrastination is the act of delaying or postponing a task or set of tasks. It could also be stated as habitual or intentional delay of starting or finishing a task despite knowing that it might have negative consequences.

The best example to understand procrastination is: We have to submit our journals on weekly basis to get grades. It is our duty to complete the journal on the same day of performance, but what we actually do? We procrastinate our journal writing, ignore it till the deadline i.e till our next performance date. Then day before the submission we hurriedly, carelessly by copying write it & submit it. This is what exactly procrastination means. We ourselves are only deliberately creating the mess for writing our own journal.

Human beings are been procrastinating for centuries. If procrastination is our habit then it is a huge barrier in our personality. We can’t call ourselves a gentleman. People having the habit of procrastinating their work do not realize the dangers of delaying .Work does not disappear if we postponed it. One day or other it has to be done. The more we postpone; the more work piles up. It is our faith in us, that we can do it tomorrow or later. But thing we all should remember that ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’. We only need to give more hours for the same work which in turn develops pressure, stress, agony and lot more.

It is said that, “Time and Tide wait for no man”. Once time is wasted it won’t come back, it is gone forever. Therefore, if you want to do anything or take any action, do it here & now. Do not linger over the idea. Do not lose the interest in it. Delay is damage. Do not think for the past and future actions. ‘Think in the Present, Work in the Present & Live in the Present.’

We know the saying of Charles Dickens: “PROCRASTINATION IS THE THIEF OF TIME.” Future actions are unknown to us .Things change every moment .If you really wish to learn anything plan it immediately. Whatever comes to your mind bring it into practice and finish it off then & there only because the guilt, shame and anxiety that you feel while procrastinating is worse than the effort and energy you have to put in while you are working.

I would like to conclude by the words of Sir Norman Vincent Peale. He quotes: “The really happy are those who have broken the chains of procrastination, those who find satisfaction in doing the job at hand. They are full of eagerness, zest, productivity & creativity. You can be too.”

So say good bye to the habit of procrastinating and develop new enthusiastic ,wise gentleman in you right now without any Procrastination.
