One of the latest to bloom beginning in mid summer, the long, dense, scarlet

red plumes are borne above the dissected, green foliage. (#4303)

Astilbe (Astilbe or False Spirea) are great plants for shady or semi shady areas. They

prefer a soil that has plenty of organic matter. The soil needs to be consistently moist. If the

soil dries out, the plants will dry up and turn brown. Astilbe varieties vary greatly in size,

from short for the front of the border, to taller varieties with tall, show-stopping plumes.

Hardy to zone 4.
