Welcome to our 2019 Holiday Tour brochure, and we must initially begin by thanking you for making our tour programme in 2018 such a success.

We have once again featured a wide range of quality, value for money holidays and short breaks both within the UK and Europe. We will again bring you some of our best established destinations with amended and updated itineraries, alongside a brand new selection of venues for those of you looking for something different.

Using our fleet of mini-buses we offer you a virtually door to door pick up service as we will pick you up from near as practically possible from your front door and take you to meet the tour coach. Our aim is to get you on the tour coach and away on your tour as soon as possible.

All of the excursions described in the holiday that you choose are planned to enhance the tour and add enjoyment. These are all included within the tour price that you pay – we don’t add any extras on and expect you to pay more. However, if you prefer to spend some time in the host resort or doing your own thing, then that is fine by us. All we would ask is that you inform your driver.

We would like to remind you that single rooms are limited so early booking is advised if you require this type of room. South West Coaches are allocated a limited number of single rooms at the supplement shown on the relevant tour page. Once these have all been sold we can request additional single rooms but these are often at a increased supplement. In addition to this the seats on the coach are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis so if you have a preference for a particular seat, then again, you need to book as early as possible.

More and more passengers are bringing a motorised scooter with them for the tours – this is no problem however we do please ask that you inform us at the time of booking, especially so it is not a surprise for a feeder coach driver who may not have space in their feeder vehicle to take the scooter and may have to leave it or you behind.

If you want to hire a scooter for a tour, then we would suggest you contact Shopmobility in Yeovil, who can also arrange delivery of the scooter to and from our depot, so we can safely load the scooter onto the coach prior to departure, giving you one less thing to worry about. They will also collect the scooter from us after the tour.

We are here to help you choose your perfect holiday and look forward to welcoming you on board soon.

Have a great holiday.

FRIDAY - DAY 1

FRIDAY - DAY 6

THURSDAY - DAY 5

We visit Cragside House and Gardens, former home of the famous inventor, Lord Armstrong. In 1878, Cragside was the first house in the world to be lit by hydro-electricity and it is crammed full of ingenious gadgets - most of them still working - as well as an eclectic collection of British art, furniture, ceramics and natural history. Outside the house, one of the largest rock gardens in Europe leads down to the Iron Bridge, which in turn leads to the lovely formal gardens. Please note, the terrain at Cragside House is uneven with steep footpaths, many of which are unsuitable forwheelchair users. Then we move on to discover Wallington one of the National Trust’s more unusual properties set in a 13,000 acre estate and famous for the huge pre-Raphaelite paintings that tell the history of Northumberland, and a collection of beautiful furniture and quirky curiosities.

After breakfast we meet our blue badge guide for a full day guided tour exploring Hadrian’s Wall Country and Hexham. We travel through the fabulously scenic Northumbrian countryside along the Hadrian’s Wall route, visiting Chester's Roman Fort, the most complete Roman Cavalry Fort - wander around the unusually preserved baths and steam room, and the officers quarters. WEDNESDAY - DAY 4

We begin the day in the charming city of Chester with a tranquil 30 minute cruise on the River Dee including commentary. The remainder of the day is at leisure to explore the pretty medieval streets and city walls.

Venture south this morning for a canal cruise through the beautiful Vale of Llangollen and across the Pontcysllte Aqueduct, or 'Stream in the Sky', on a brightly coloured narrowboat. An interesting commentary gives visitors an insight into the history of the area and other canals in the UK. Spend time in Llangollen itself, before travelling over the spectacular Horseshoe Pass to the small market town of Ruthin, before returning to the hotel.

We make our way to the Wirral Peninsula where we stop at the wonderful Port Sunlight village, built by ‘Soap King’ William Hesketh Lever in 1888. The village was built to house Lever’s ‘Sunlight Soap’ factory workers, but today is home to a fascinating museum, beautiful architecture, a world-class art gallery, stunning parkland and a thriving community. To ensure you have the best experience of Port Sunlight we have arranged for a guided tour. After lunch, we head to the award winning Ness Botanic Gardens. Founded in 1898 by Arthur Kilpin Bulley, a cotton merchant with a passion for gardens and plant collecting.

Time to commence our journey home however not before one final visit – to Northwich for a ride on the magnificent Anderton Boat Lift. Originally built in 1875, the structure lifts passengers aboard the elegant Edwin Clark boat from the River Weaver to the Trent and Mersey Canal high above. A comprehensive visitor centre houses an exhibition focusing on the lift's history together with its control centre, so visitors can get close to the action. We then re-join the coach and continue our drive home.

Today we embark on a cruise along the fascinating 35 miles of the Manchester Ship Canal. The six hour trip is as informative as it is relaxing in telling the story of how the magnificent waterway shaped the city of Manchester and the North West. Taking us through locks and bridges that have remained largely unchanged since their construction over 100 years ago. During our journey we enjoy a lively commentary giving a revealing insight into the facts, history and dramas of one of Britain’s major waterways. There is also a licensed bar to purchase refreshments and snacks throughout our journey. Following our cruise we return to our hotel for our evening meal.

This morning we travel to Rawtenstall, where we enjoy a nostalgic trip on the East Lancashire Railway to the famous market town of Bury. When we arrive in style at our destination, we visit the Bury Transport Museum which has recently undergone a £3 million refurbishment. The museum is located across the road from the station and displays a wide selection of restored vehicles including vintage buses, a tram, tractors, transport vehicles and a historic steam locomotive. From Bury we travel to Wilmslow to enjoy lunch, after which we can explore the town at leisure. Wilmslow offers a good selection of boutique shops, cafes and restaurants which cater for those associated with the "Cheshire Set" lifestyle.

With 2019 also being the 50th anniversary of Concorde’s maiden voyage we thought it was only right that we travel in the footsteps of the “Jet Set” and head to the Runway Visitor Park. Based at Manchester airport we board Concorde (steep steps involved) for our Classic Tour. During the visit we can learn about some of the supersonic aircraft's famous passengers, sit in the pilot’s seat and discover some of the unique features that made BA’s Flagship Concorde so special. After breakfast we will take the ferry for the 50 minute crossing to the second smallest of the Channel Islands - Sark. There are no cars on Sark, so we will be met at the harbour by a horse drawn carriage that will take us on a 1 hour tour of the island. We will then have some time to explore at leisure before the return crossing back to St Peter Port and Guernsey.

This morning, we will board our coach and enjoy a half day guided tour of the island, which will include a trip to The Little Chapel – quite possibly the smallest chapel in the world. It was modelled in 1914 on the famous grotto and basilica at Lourdes and decorated with seashells, pebbles and broken china! Our tour will also include a visit to the German built naval observation tower of Pleinmont Point and, in stark contrast, to the fragrant Guernsey Freesia Centre. Our journey will include a mid-tour tea and cake refreshment at the Guernsey Pearl. The guided tour will finish at around 1.00 pm at St Peter Port where we will have the opportunity to relax and enjoy a delicious lunch at one of the many waterside restaurants before exploring this pretty port town and harbour. We will be returned by coach to our hotel later in the afternoon.

Today we will enjoy a guided tour of Castle Cornet and its museums. This 800 year old castle not only offers a fascinating history but also spectacular panoramic views back towards St Peter Port and out across Guernsey’s sister islands. The story of the castle and other aspects of Guernsey’s past can be found in the five museums housed within the Castle. Then it is onto Sausmarez Manor, a family home, with parts dating back to the 12th Century. The estate houses a curious sculpture park and a large bamboo forest.

After breakfast, we head back to St Peter Port for the return crossing to Poole, upon where your coach will meet you for your return transfer home.

WICKED @ THE APOLLO VICTORIA THEATRE

Following a leisurely breakfast we have some time at leisure in Central London, where you will have plenty of time to spend as you please. Maybe visit one of London’s many attractions or do a spot of shopping. We leave London mid afternoon and return back to the West Country.

From humble beginnings in Nutbush, Tennessee, to her transformation into the global Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll, Tina Turner didn’t just break the rules, she rewrote them. This new stage musical reveals the untold story of a woman who dared to defy the bounds of her age, gender and race. Tina – The Tina Turner Musical chronicles the life of the rock ‘n’ roll legend who brought us hit songs like “What’s Love Got to Do With It”, “Proud Mary”, “The Best”, “River Deep Mountain High” and “Better Be Good To Me”.

Based on the acclaimed novel by Gregory Maguire, this London musical follows the previously untold story of two sorcerers and their adventures in Oz, as they fulfil their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West. With unforgettable music and lyrics from Stephen Schwartz, the Wicked London cast bring the wonderful world of Oz to life and reveal that there’s more behind the famous story than meets the eye.

Adapted from the incomparable children's novel by Roald Dahl, Matilda The Musical is the story of an extraordinary little girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. Winner of over 85 international awards, including 16 for Best Musical, Matilda The Musical continues to delight audiences all over the UK.
